cpu and gpu usage

Hello everyone ;)  Was wondering if any tech monekys could help me figure out how to access my gpu's on my new laptop.  Recently got a new one with 4 cpu and 8 gpu and was wondering if its possible to use the gpu's with the cpu's to help speed up my long render times on my bigger scenes.  I know how to set affinity for my cpu but am at a loss on how to use the gpu on the system.  Any help would be greatly apprecciated even if its a direcction where to go for more info.  Thank a bunch everyonne!!

What is the GPU in the laptop?

  • my processor is a AMD FX-8800P radeon R7, 12 Compute Cores 4C+8G 2.1 GHz

For a GPU to assist in Studio, it must be an Nvidia GPU.  Sorry, that Radeon is not going to help and that is why it is not showing up in Studio.

  • thnx mjc ;)  the cpu are still faster than my previous pc was just hoping to make it even faster ^^

You should still get a substantial assist from an ATI GPU cores. The OS should have no problem splitting out the rendering to those 8 GPUs. And when DAZ Studio, Windows 10, and your video drivers are DirectX 12 complient then it will be really much better and faster at offloading your renders fast to the GPUs.

I don't believe that is true for Daz Studio iray renders. Actually, I'm not sure it's true for 3DL either. Offloading to gpu, it's not about what the OS is doing.

Considering that Studio is OpenGL, not DirectX...

Yeah, it will help some with things like viewport and UI display, but do nothing for rendering, in anything, except Luxrender (and only easily in that with the latest Reality).  Maybe Octane...
