You're saying it is the Day of the Tentacle? Does it come in purple?

  • laugh

Purple and various others, I think I will make a few more for it. :)

  • I just got it - I had forgotten about that wink

Payday on the 16th, this'll be straight in the cart!

Now I can make my childhood memories of Maniac Mansion on the Commodore 64 come true!

Also, giant ships being pulled underwater by Kraken, or ghostly arms reaching out from under the bed or from the closet.

All the school girls in the DAZ store tremble in fear...

  • Thank you both :)

I'm really interested in what people will come up with. I hope I get to see some of these creations :)

I broke down and got this yesterday as the Newly Mad item to give me the 70% off Genesis 2 figures... I'm sure I'll have some wacky render soon. ;)

Just picked this up today.  Going to be really great for mermaid scenes.  and I can think of some cool uses for sci fi as well.I saw Will's render on the other thread and really liked the water shader on it, it looked like ice.

  • Thank you very much Sonja :)

I was hoping it could be used in various things. Will opened up the possibilites with his examples.

Extra skins were something I had thought about doing - I think I will make an expansion pack with morphs and some further skins and anything else I can think of.

Ooooh, an expansion... Well, just off the top of my not-at-all-reined-in imagination: geografts to put eyes, claws, hands, fingers, smaller tentacles or mouths in the tip of the tentacle (of course, with demonic tongues included--because that wouln't be hard at all, no sir), an option to remove the suckers (or to put eyes on them), textures to make them vegetable-like, textures to make them cyber-like (Wil's example is gorgeous), textures to make them putrid, to make them petrol-like, to cover them in mucus, to make the tentacle into a geograft for G2M and G2F arms and/or legs...

I need to stop playing Call of Cthulhu. Or watching anime. Definitely stop doing both at once.

But seriously, it looks like a really fun product, can't wait to see what you come up with for the expansion.

    Hi :)

I think some of them are possible, especially the skins, which I have been playing with today as well as some morph experiments. It seems displacement maps are the best solution.

Don't really think the eyes would work for the suckers, not sure if there would be enough polys there to make them globular. Will see. :)

Should be able to make some cyber like things too, what Will did was great and gave me fresh ideas. Smoothing out the suckers could be done with a morph, although texture-wise I think that would work best if the underbelly was a uniform colour as the suckers have their own material zone - so they would need to be changed to match whatever that is.

Here's an early attempt at adding bumpiness to the tentacle. It's not there yet, there are sharp edges, I'd aim to smooth those a bit more. I'm just playing at the moment.

    Thanks for the ideas :)

Displacement maps are fun, and the tentacle seems to start with a good number of polys to work with (and subd helps get more if you need).

    Glad I could inspire. ;)

This was an instant purchase! Something I've been wanting for years!

Would fully agree with some of Uthgard's suggestions, especially being able to put different mouths on the end (or perhaps a single type with different morphing options). Perhaps also something like is shown on 'The Strain', if placed inside a character's mouth to look like an extendable tongue?

A way to make it completely smooth or exoskeletal and segmented, would also make it excellent for attaching to the base of a figure's spine, to give the illusion of a tail. If it can be made especially small, it could also be attached to the top of a head and used for prehensile monster-themed hair, too.

Also, if there is an expansion along these lines? An octopus has suckers a lot like these, but large squid have a thorn-like spike in the middle of each sucker (presumably to tear flesh off prey and enemies). The store has yet to have a giant squid/collossal squid/jumbo squid, but these would be excellent to create the illusion of one.

Cybernetic additions sound great! I've been wanting to give my robotic characters a segmented tail and Doctor Octopus-like tendrils! :)

Keep in mind that if you want to 'attach' it to the body, set it to collide with the body and the base will flow a little to look attached. Somewhat. (Or you could collide the body to the tentacle, and have the skin sort of enfold the base a little)

Xenomorphine, thanks for your support :)

I saw someone had joined the tentacles to a female character in one of the threads, but I can't find it now. Maybe someone else saw it. Sounds like Will is on to that idea. :)

I think a lot can be done with the displacement maps I have been playing with.

I found an image from The Strain, I'll have a play, there might be enough polys there to do something. The concern would be stretching the texture I think, but I will see.

Thanks for the input - I will keep on experimenting with all the ideas :)

  • Does anyone happen to have seen a picture of a man in a hat with the tentacle in it in the gallery ? Very Lovecraftian. I thought I had book marked it, but now cannot find it. Thanks.

I used them in this render.  They are super easy to work with.

That was mine. I really need to do more with that Tentacle, like Ice says its really easy to work with.

Oh thats really cool Joe Webb!

I should add that they look great right out of the box as well. I didn't do anything to them in the above render other than add the water drops in post work

  • Sorry for the late reply but thank you bothsmiley

Ice Dragon I like your dramatic scene, I had not seen those waves before. The added water is a nice effect too.

Thank you!  The waves are from First Bastion and the water is Ron's Brushes.  Your tentacles are super easy to use and really beautiful to use straight out of the box.
