Finding newly loaded content in DS 4.9
I think this question has already been asked because I remember the responder saying DS 4.9 no longer made categories with new content go blue. Looked through the forums and cant see earlier question.
Problem is this. You are doing a manual install in DS 4.9. So you copy the new files into My Library/Runtime, a mapped directory (and yes the directory IS mapped its not that). Then you go in DS 4.9 "Scan known directories for files" with all 3 boxes ticked including "Add Uncategorised files to unassigned". In DS 4.8 they used to show up in Default/Uncategorised with the paths going blue. However in DS 4.9 I could not find them. Where should they be? Also after the data import from DS 4.8 all my files are marked as new and the Database Maintenance option of "Mark all my files as seen" no longer exists. (Irksome although still functioning).

It gets worse. I went to the Daz Studio Formats, located the files I had just bought and went "Create a Category From This Folder & Subfolders". I put these in the category I wanted. Result the file structure got copied across BUT not the files. I then tried to copy the files but it would not let me put them into categories. Is Daz saying the only way to install new content in DS 4.9 is with Daz connect? Everything I try to do with DS 4.9 becomes a struggle.
Exactly which version of DS are you using? Help>About DAZ Studio.
4.9.1.30. I eventually did what I wanted using Connect. Until I did the connect thing

it would not let me put the files where I wanted in my categories even if I had installed the files manually.
I would guess this is to force DS 4.9 users to use connect.
Even when I used connect I dont know where the newly installed files are seen within the content system. I had to go to the Daz Studio folder. Cant new files appear in new or unassigned like before?
Daz Studio is not (or should not) force you to use Connect to categorise. DS 4.9 is more "product centric", items which do not have a specific product will be in Local User or, for third party items, Lost and Found.
Good news is that I put DS 4.9.1.30 on a second PC and it recognised my categories off first PC. (See http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/75619/with-ds-4-9-is-the-content-directory-transportable#latest).
Then bought some things on 2nd PC and again the old routine of loading and categorisation no longer works.
nb. Copy the new files into My Library/Runtime, a mapped directory. Then you go in DS 4.9 "Scan known directories for files" with all 3 boxes ticked including "Add Uncategorised files to unassigned". In DS 4.8 they used to show up in Default/Uncategorised with the paths going blue. However in DS 4.9 I could not find them. You also get a scanned and lost and found, as RH said, but not in there. So the work around was to locate where they were directly in the runtime and categorise them from there. (This is far more time consuming than picking up the new content from Uncategorised - can't believe Daz intends us to do this but see below).
As a further experiment bought some encrypted content (loud hissing from the audience) where even my work around could not work because you can't "see" the files in the My Daz Connect Library. So I clicked on Products and looked under D for Dragon Queen and categorised from there. Might use this method for everything as easier than my work around. As RH said DS is more Product centric so looks like we have pick up our new file loads from Products now.
A minor irritation. With DS 4.9 I've found the easiest way to add content is via Connect offline files and then adding to your categories via the Products list. BUT some products don't appear as products. For example " HY Updo Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s)" which was not under H for HY and not under U for Updo. Same with "HumanReshade for Genesis 3" not under H or R. So in short can Daz tell us what the Products name is so we can find them and also make sure they show up as Products. Alternative method is to load files into My Library and then categorise them from Daz Studio Formats but why make life hard with a 2 stage process when it could be easy with a single step.
