I want to create a stream of smoke (ie breathe), where should I begin?

I guess it is to deal with writing a script. And what I would like to ask from you guys is, what should be the first step? Thank you very much in advance!

Which program? For static images or animated?

If it's Studio, no a simple script won't do it.

Ah, yes, I mean animation in DAZ Studio. Thank you mjc1016. I'm so reluctant to go to Maya or others. They are so expensive.

The problem with Studio is that it does not have the necessary parts to be able to do it...Maya and the like have particles, volumes, physics and such that Studio doesn't have.  And scripting isn't enough to add/access those features...a full plugin would be needed.

Some of the features are available in Carrara, though.

    smoke in blender.

Or perhaps look at the fog brushes for photoshop and gimp. http://www.daz3d.com/rons-fog-ii

I Once created a dragon fire but that was a while bag and in 3Delight. Also a static image render, not an animation.

Haven't looked into this in IRay yet.

I think blender is your best bet here for animated vfx effects. Daz can't really do that.

Also look into Blackmagic Fusion. I believe it's still free. It's node-based video compositing that allows for things like that.
