Are there any render presets for DS4 floating around, or a good alternative to Render Throttle?
I'm wondering if there are any scripts or precompiled settings out there that affect just the 3delight engine - for people like me (I have a graphics chip instead of a card) who can't really use hardware rendering/all the lower quality settings, but still need a quick 'preview' render from time to time?
Since Omnifreaker is on sale right now one of the first things I wanted to grab was Render Throttle but after a little research I found that despite the product page saying it's compatible with DS2x ... many threads in the forum have confirmed it doesn't work in DS4.
I know that DS4 comes with a quality slider which a lot of people said essentially does the same thing as RT ... but I experimented with lowering the quality to get a good preview of the scene I was working with last night, and not only did the spot render NOT speed up at ALL, but when I did an actual render it was nearly as bad as looking through the viewport! I couldn't even tell if things looked alright or if shadows needed to be fixed because the image was so poor. That being said I have a feeling that the graphics chip that comes with my 13" MacBookPro is probably partly to blame, but either way it means that the three lower render presets are basically useless for me.
It would be really great if there was another option out there! I found a few render presets that Adamr001 made, but apparently they only worked with DS3 & DS4 beta ... I know I can adjust and save presets myself, but I don't feel knowledgeable enough with the render parameters to fiddle with anything beyond the shading rate ... I couldn't even guess which settings would result in a quicker (yet still moderately good in quality) render. If anyone has any suggestions for settings, or another workaround I would be greatly obliged!!

The only thing that Render Throttle changed was the Shading Rate, it was not able to be altered in DS2, and was set at 0.2. When DS3 came along, you could change the shading rate yourself, but some people useed RT because it could save presets, and DS3 couldn't.
DS4 can now save presets easily, and for an increase in render speed, UP the shading rate from the (now) default of 1.00 to 4.00 or even 8.00, and it should make a massive difference.
The Quality slider is not the same as RT, it determines whether or not your render uses OpenGl or the 3Delight Render engine. Only Option 4 uses the 3Delight renderer (software render), the rest use OpenGl.
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or if it's even compatible with DS4.5, but it may be worth a shot.

Thanks for clearing things up JimmyC and for the suggestion which worked like a charm :coolsmirk: I'm not sure why I had this idea that going over 1.00 would produce catastrophic results lol but it gets the job done REALLY fast for a preview @ 8.00, and I like the softened quality at 4.00, I think it might actually work for a final render on certain scenes ... Such a simple solution that I feel kind of silly for being so stumped, can't thank you enough!
Thank you lface8! I just grabbed these, dinner's calling so I can't test them right away but they do look promising ... I'm crossing my fingers that this'll be a nice 1-click option for changing between settings.
I'm looking at one right now. Need tested in 4.5. written for 4.---.19.
What about the quality of the render with values of 4 and 8?

The quality will be 'preview', and not for a final render. It is just a quick way to see if everything is as you want it before carrying out a full final render at a decent quality setting of say 0.2
I got very good results at 0.5, I'll keep that setting, thank you:)
