Method of combining png frames into lossless format for video editing?

I have been using Power Director 14 to edit my animations, which are individual 1920 x 1080 png frames at 24fps. But I came across a problem tonight and need to find a work around. Apparently Power Director (my video editing software) is only capable of handing 2500 clips at a time, doesn't matter length, so whether its 1 minute, 5 minutes or individual frames, in my case the limit in one project is 2500. Which is only 104 seconds of screen time at 24fps. Which means I need to find a way to combine the png frames ahead of time into larger clips, into mpg or preferably something else.

I say preferably something else, because I don't want to lose any video quality due to compression, and more importantly, I don't want to lose the alpha channel, as I often animate in multi layers.

Does anyone know of a way to combine multiple png frames into video clips, while retaining quality and alpha channel? Or if need be, I guess I'll need to buy a different video editing software which can handle at least 18,000 frames. Any suggestions on either front would be greatly appreciated.

Can Power Director not output a video clip while retaining the Alpha channel? I use Sony Vegas Pro which has very few restrictions :)

Power Director is really low end software unfortunately, I don't know a lot about video formats, but of the ones I've tried nothing has worked out. I have a feeling I'm going to have to buy Vegas. I read on some forums that Sony Vegas 12 was crashing with Nvidia graphics cards, do you know if thats still an issue? They said Vegas Pro 9 did not have a problem however.
Are you aware of this issue, and/or what version are you using?

I don't have a Nvidia card so can't help there although I did/do occasionally use the 32 bit versions on an old XP desktop that had a very old Nvidia card without problems.

I use Vegas Pro 12.0 (64-bit) and still have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 installed which is an older version. I am still swithering on whether it is worth upgrading to Vegas Pro 13.0 (64-bit) ATM :)

Blender can do what you want.

Although I've not used it for more than quick clips using a lot fewer frames.

I found this thread on using something called FFMPEG to do it:

haven't dowloaded ffmpeg yet, or tried it, but sounds like it might do the trick.

If it is a Codec problem, and Powerdirector can use them, then try K-Lite Codec. I have been using them for more years than I can remember. It has a load of different codecs for both viewing and editing including some ffcodecs.
