Zbrush dynamesh for new body parts

So I've discovered zbrush as an excellent sculpting tool with dynamesh enabled. However, when I attempted to create 'attachments' (spinal port, sci-fi esque) anatomy, using dynamesh distorts the mesh border AND makes it impossible to reattach said anatomy.

I've used the genitalia attachment as an example as that shows it better.

This is before dynamesh

And this is after. The edges are SO heavily distorted and I'm clueless as to why. Can anyone give advice?

Yes, you would need to avoid tools like that for making GeoGrafts, or to patch them into a ring of correctly placed vertices in a modeller before trying to use them in DS.

Any suggestions for a modeller? I'm not a big fan of zbrush's UI and it's rather confusing

    Blender, although  I am biased.

It has a steep learning curve, which is easier if you're ok with learning shortcuts; the short cuts make for faster working, if they suite you.

Having said it has a steep learing curve, well they all do really. Blender is at least free and has masses of free tutorials out there.

I tried blender but merging/joining the meshes has made it look horrible
