Does anyone know if there is a way to flip/mirror a UV selection while maintaining it's size? I've used rotate and scale in the past but these aren't always accurate.

no,. there isn't an automatic option,. so manual is the only available option,. Holding SHIFT can be helpful in some situations,. as it maintains scaling, but,..by flipping things in the opposite direction,..shift has a tendency to make it flip back to it's original,
you can Flip and rotate texture maps in the shader editor

Perhaps this feature will be included in version 9. :)
