Creating a Custom Tree Structure for Content Files

Greetings:

I would like to store my content on my HD with a specific file tree structure.  Question is, can DS be made to see the individual branches, or does everything have to come from a central "pool".  Also, is it possible to set up a similar structure within DS?  Here's a small example of what I want:

FIGURES Male M3 M4 G2M Female V3 V4 G2FSETS Buildings Interiors Exteriors Vehicles Land Sea Air

As long as you used only the lowest level folder (M3, M4, G2M, V3, V4, G2F, Interiors, Exteriors, Land, Sea, and Air in your list) then you could have each as a content directory and install the content to that. What you couldn't do is have both Male and M3 as content directories as that would have the potential to confuse DS. Of course you cold also do all of this in Categories, which would allow a greater degree of flexibility.

I've just started hearing about Cagagories, so yeah, I'll be looking into that as well.  Thanks for the info.  It won't be as neat as I'd like, but it's better than everythjing in the same directory.

One more Q if I may.  Since Connect seems to do what IM does, will IM be depreciated or even eliminated?  I don't use IM, just curious.

Although there can be no guarantee that the IM system will continue, Daz has said that as long as there's a reasonable level of demand for it it will be kept (and in any event at the moment there are files that Connect can't handle).

I use the custom categories and arrange it exactly as I please.  For instance I have

    People -

    Michael 4 -

    Characters - Hair- Clothing

and then under characters each character for M4 under hair each hair and under clothing I have outfits - boots & shoes - cloaks etc..

I am able to put things in multiple categories as well which makes it much easier to kit bash.  I will put the entire outfit in in outfits and also put the boots for it in boots and shoes (or whatever)

The added benefit of not worrying about messing up the integrity of the files.  I only have to find and categorize them once, then they are at my fingertips no matter where the insall manager or connect wants to put them

Daz Connect installed content is only accessible in the Smart Content Tab, leaving the Daz Format Content Library free of any files.  The Daz Content Library can now be populated with shortcuts by dragging icons from the Smart Content tab in your preferred library folder structure. You can even create shortcuts of Poser Format content into the Daz Content Library.  If you decide to re-arrange your Daz Content folders and shortcuts, you can easily do that using your computer's operating system without "breaking" anything.  Since you're content library is composed of shortcuts, Daz Connect installed updates are automatically available in the Daz Content Library as soon as they are applied.

If you have a large library of content, it can be a lot of work, but it only needs to be done one time for each product.

Since my Daz Content library is 75% converted to shortcuts (with over 7k Daz products it's taking awhile, not to mention non-daz products), it was easy to create a new Daz Content Library with your sample folder structure and copy folders of existing shorcuts to populate it and adding it as a new Daz Content Libary.  Note the example shows Poser content in the Daz Content Library.

In the beta, which that screenshot shows, Daz Connect content does get an aggregate virtual folder in the Content Library pane - you can see it at top left above My Library. You can right-click there, at any level, and from the menu choose to create links for a whole folder or hiearchy of content in a chosen location without the need to drag-and-drop.
