My video card is not working!

edited May 2016 in The Commons

*Update: I have noticed that If I try to render heavy scenes the video card doesn't work. Is this common? How can I solve it If it's a problem?

*I use Iray with a Msi 970 16 gb ram I7 4790

Thanks!

To render using the video card on iRay, the scene you are trying to render needs to fit inside your video card's VRAM. your video card has 4gb of Vram, so if its a reasonably large scene with high quality textures and mutliple subdivision levels, it may take more than 4gb of Vram.

When you hit this limitation, iRay will not use the video card. it will drop back to CPU only, utlising your system ram instead

Also, the CUDA compute level for the card must be high enough.  For instance, my Quadro FX-5800 with 4GB of VRAM will not activate for Iray because the CUDA level isn't high enough.

  • Damn, explains why my FX-5800 is just a lump when using DAZ,  and I went to the trouble of water cooling it as I thought it would be working flat out! Thanks
