Which build would be best for iRay Rendering

Build 1:

Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake CPU, 4 Cores, 4.6GHz (Overclocked)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB Graphics Card

Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 Motherboard

16GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory (2 x 8GB Sticks)

I know the graphics card in this isn't supported by iRay yet, but this would be for when it is supported.

Build 2:

Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake CPU, 4 Cores, 4.6GHz (Overclocked)

2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Graphics Card

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 Motherboard

32GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory (2 x 16GB Sticks)

Build 2 for large scenes. I wouldn't buy the founder's efition. It will be as vanilla as possible. An overclocked cpu will make little difference if your card can handle the scene.

Build 1, for scenes less than 4 gb.

I agree, go for version 2 if you are building now. Also remember to run the 2 cards in NON-SLI, and would upgrade to 64 gb of memory. I just built a new computer with MSI X99A board, I7 hexcore chip, 2 EVGA GTX 980 TI cards, 1200 watt power supply, 1 tb SSD, liquid cooled, Window 7 pro. I started with 32 gb of DDR 2133 memory, then went to 64 gb, then 128. Big difference with 32-64 gb increase, not so much with the 128 gb. Initially ran the cards in SLI, but then found the articles about non-SLI rendering and tried it. Iray render times dropped from 25 minutes to 10-15 minutes depending on scene complexity. Also you can play with overclocking the cards or the CPU or both. Have fun.
