Adding Polygons

I'm trying to add more ploygons to this object so that it will bend more smoothly like an actual tail but i and not seeing anything in daz instructions to do that. If i convert it to sub divide object it breaks the existing polygons that will work but i would then need to find a way to re connect the existing polygons. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of existing instructions.

What do you mean by 'breaks the existing polygons'?

Can you post a screenshot of it with SubD applied?

Also what exactly is that tail...part of an existing product?  a freebie? something else?

Depending on exactly what is happening and how that tail is rigged, it may not actually be possible to do what you want...without resorting to doing it in a dedicated modeling program...like Blender, Hexagon, etc.

The tail is from a obj file out of a game data file i was able to pull apart it has no rigging to it so i've been building the bone structurs when i move the tail around it becomes very choppy I'm thinking it has so few polygons to work with. I've tried doing the sub divide then send it to hexagon but when it lands in there it shows up with out these breats so i don't have edges to reatach. If i do need to remodel it i'm going to have hunt down a dummies manual for blender or hexagon the navigation menus are such a pain to figure out; if you've got something for that i'm all ears on that subject too.

It doesn't look like it's welded together/there are duplicate vertices.

It's not going to be too complicated, but it's not just 'load it and click this' either.

Can you post a couple of shots of what you have so far?

    Go download Netfabb free:

    http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php

Open the .obj, and use auto repair on it. This will weld the triangles/verts.

Export the .obj and then re-import into DS. Now you can convert to SubD without the model splitting open.

Link changed to free version direct. ~Mod
