Stopping an object from casting shadows?

I'm trying to get some pillars in a scene (using DM's Thermae, Daz v4.8) to stop casting shadows.  There's only about 3 of 8 that I want to stop, but can't figure out how to do it.  I select the pillar and turn off the shadow 'button' but it still casts one.  I selected the surface of the pillars and turned off the shadow 'button' but they still cast shadows.  I don't want to turnoff shadows on the light itself as there are other items I want to cast a shadow.

Is there something that I'm missing here?  I thought this would be simple.

As an added bonus, is it possible to somehow seperate an object in half (top half of a pillar) and not have it cast a shadow yet the bottom half cast one?

    Which renderer?

If you are rendering in Iray, the Shadow 'OFF' has no effect.

3Delight.  And now that I'm in front of my computer I want to clarify that I have been referring to the Cast Shadows option.

Not sure why Cast Shadows isn't working, but for your other question perhaps you could simply create two copies of the pillar, and hide the polygons in the upper half of one and the lower half of the other.

then (once you get the CastShadows thing fixed) let one pillar half casting a shadow normally (which will cast half a shadow) and set the the pillar half with shadows disabled.  The two halves will visually look like one single full pillar, but only the half pillar shadow will be cast.

And just to rule out the obvious, try hiding the pillar and make sure you don't already somehow have a second copy or other object inside it that's actually what is casting the shadow.
