How to change incorrect metadata

I have a ton of items like hair, characters, etc... (even new G3 items) showing up under utilities, not to mention unknown and lost and found. I see there is a way to edit metadata, but I don't want to screw anything up. How do I change it and next time I update metada, will it put it back in the wrong place??? Thanks.

This was an issue in 4.9.0.x/4.9.1.x but has received attention since then - 4.9.2.x would restore the vendor data but not remove the custom data, 4.9..3.x will, I am told, allow you to hide the vendor data in favour of your own (you can restore it if desired) unless it is deliberately reactivated (or you delete the user data). So as long as you are using at least 4.9.2.x you should be safe to edit.
How do I get my hands on 4.9.3.xx?
4.9.3.70 is the latest one visible version of Daz Studio Pro 64-bit when checking with the install manager. I tried searching for Daz Studio in the store but all that happened was that I was sent to a registration/download page...
I'm still having severe trouble with SmartContent in this version of Daz Studio...
I presume you mean 4.9.2.70 is the latest available build. 4.9.3.x is presumably private at the moment. We will have to wait for the public beta. The current beta is the same as the general release.
ETA: Yes, 4.9.3.25 is the latest beta according to the change log, and is private at the moment.
Yes, ofcause 4.9.2.70...
Eagerly awaiting next public release - provided it solves the SmartContent issues...
You would think that with the new push for Smart Content that quality of meta data would be improving. It's not. And I thought we were going to get meta data for older products? Still rolling my own at this point and fixing the broken ones. Color me a trifle disappointed; though I appreciate some of the improvements to the process, removes some of the tedium.
OK thanks, but how do I edit the metadata? Is there a tutorial for that? Thanks,
What are you looking to change?
The easiest and most direct way is to right click on the product in the Smart Content Product View and choose Edit Meta Data.
There are tutorials floating around but most of them are seriously out of date.
Metadata is still being updated - I get a number of items pretty much every time I connect Ds to Daz.
Guess its not the meta data I am looking for. The number of items in my Lost and Found doesn't seem to decrease by any significant amount.
over 1/3 of my content is in Lost and Found. Out of 480 Products 169 of them are in Lost and Found. for files in Lost and Forgotten its 1111+.
Lost and Forgotten.. I mean Lost and Found, should really be renamed to Uncategorized. It would sound SO much better.
Lost and Found is treated as user data (because some of it will be), so in 4.9.2.x it will not be removed when the item gets a new categorisation. This is to stop people from finding their custom categorisation of items is wiped by every update. However, an increasing proportion of the items should also be properly categorised. I'm not sure if there's a way to identify (and remove) items that are in a real category as well as Lost and Found, but there is further work on this area in 4.9.3.x (forthcoming build(s))
That sounds great! I sent a bug report about metadata the other day when I found out that some of the "Polly" metatdata was wrong (found parts in "Lost and Found") and decided to go through the compleete Support folder for errors...
On the other hand that is what who ever is working at Daz should be able to do, install a number of products and let the "Lost and Found" do it's magic...
Shouild not take so much time to get it right...
Cheerio for now!
All well and good. Still not seeing a lot of improvement from my seat. But, hey! They paid attention when I told them that M4 Regency Connect package didn't have the clothes in it and they fixed that... so, I'll just start opening tickets for the other busted stuff I find. I'm mpstly reasonable about this stuff, but.. for things like Major Cache which was a huge seller, you'd think the the meta data would be done by know and I wouldn't have to fix it.
I don't know if I got more calm and on the ball with metadata or something improved lately, but I'm finding it WAY easier to edit metadata nowadays.
Big thing is simply:
Fix (or set) type.
Fix (or set) root category to something like /Default/Hair/
Then add anything important as a category, like /Default/Hair/Long/
I usually don't bother with anything past that.
What is the proper way to distribute user created metadata? Say I did the metadata for Major Cache and MOS Invasion and MOST of the add-ons for said outfits and I wanted to make them available for people?
