Now that we have GenX2 for Genesis 3......

... does anyone know how to convert Genesiss 3 textures to work with Genesis 2?  I might be able to buld custom shaders (using Carrara) based of the included textures, but there is already a way.  Thanks!

If you can bear to use Blender, there's this (it works in either direction): http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/59665/tutorial-converting-textures-from-gen2-to-gen3/p1

    Hello MelanieL,

Thanks!  I took a look at the tutorial, and actuallly printed the more verbose one linked near the top.  However, I am getting stuck at the part talking about "condense material zones."  I can't figure out what it is talking about?  If you are following along witht the ChangelingChick version, this is steps 11 - 15.  It talks about what to do for each section (zone?) that you want to condense, but it does not explain what that is?  The original turotial you linked above says: "Essentially you want to rearrange the materials like the templates in the material panel in Studio"  I saw that and thought great, but I can't find the material templates in the material panel in Studio?  So frustrating...  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

At the top of the Shader panel in DS (for Genesis 3) there's a list of Template1 / Template 2 / Template 3 / ... - if you click on one of these (expand the surfaces list lower down first) you will see which material zones share that template (e.g. the face also includes the lips, the limbs will include both arms and legs, the torso includes neck and nipples, ...) You want to reduce the number of material zones in Blender so there is one per template (by assigning all the faces in the zones to just one material zone name).

For Genesis 2, you can use the surface select tool to pick a surface then right-click and select all surfaces that use the same diffuse map, say. This will give you the list you need to reduce down to in Blender for G2M/F.

I hope this helps - I'm about to leave the forum for the night (it's 10:30 PM where I am) so I probably won't see any replies till tomorrow.

    Hi MelanieL,

Thanks for the assistance!  I have figured out how to mess with the surfaces, and have completed the first figure.  I still need to go through and do it to the second figure (as in the tutroial), just havnen't had a chance.  Then I get to figure out the "how" to use the Blender setup to convert UVs.  Thanks again!

Glad you are getting to grips with this. I must admit I've only transferred 2 texture sets using this method myself - I keep meaning to do some more but never seem to have time.

As promised (long overdue), here are the fruits of my Blender efforts...

LY Jolina on Genesis 2 and 3DUniverse Haley on Genesis 2, compelte with conveted textures and rendered in Carrara :-)

Well, that seemed to work! Haley has a rather odd light ring around her irises, but the Jolina one looks pretty good. Well done smiley

I stil haven't got round to doing any more transfers, but maybe one day...
