What morph do I need to create a new character to sell in the store?

Hi everybody,

I just want to find out of what type of morph do I need to create my own character that I could legally sell through Daz studio 3D store.  Would it be just a regular morph or it must be a merchant resources morph?  Thank you.

Moved to Technical Help as it isn't a product suggestion.

It depends what you mean - you can use non-merchant resource morphs, just save a Shaping preset and note that the morph set(s) you used are required prodiucts. However you may not bake a morph from other morphs that are not sold as merchant resources (and used in accordance with the MR's terms).

Thank you.  I've been seeing morphs product in the store but there are two types.  One it says the product's name and follows by Merchant Resource.    The other just the product's name without merchant resource.  Which one should I purchase for me to create my own female character product that I could sell in Daz store?

The Merchant Resources can be used to create your own character - How you use them to create a new product depends on what the terms of the Merchants Resource are - Usage terms are usually stated on the read me such as this one for Genesis 3 Female Head Morph Resource Kit 3

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/32577/start

You can get to the read me for other products by substituting the 32577 with the product ID you are checking up on which is the SKU: number on that products sales page.

Other morphs that are not marked as merchant resources could still be used as part of your character but as Richard says you would need to save as a shaping presets & any customer buying your character would be required to own those same morphs to use it so that would need to be stated in your sales copy

It might be a bit tricky to pitch a shaping preset with third party morphs to daz without something else of value though. Merchant resources (especially skins and morphs) are there to support creation, not to be an all encompassing development method. Might be a good idea to pick up zbrush and get familiar with it if you want to be a character artist. By all means, use MRs, but if you really want to get into in-depth character creation, a solid sculpting/painting application will go a long way. Just my 2c.

Either way, best of luck! :)

Thank you.  At this time, I couldn't afford Zbrush and the only modeler I have in my posession are Hexagon and Blender.  Would these softwares are good enough for me to create a female character that would get approval by Daz?

Results are important not the tool

Blender, Hexagon and Zbrush all have the tools, as do many others.

I don't like Hexagon, although it can be useful for creating a quick morph, and some PAs use it. Zbrush is a decent amount of cash - I wasn't keen when I tried it out, but the results possible with it are seriously tough to argue against. Blender is free; I found it easy to learn; it made sense to me - at least since they updated the UI from what was 2.49. It's free to try, all you'll waste is time, but that will be the same with any.

It isn't a waste deciding you can't handle its style.

All will take a lot of time to learn; find one that suites you, so start with free or very low priced.

I have found Blender fairly easy to use to create various character morphs as for that all you need to use are the sculpting tools - I still can't get my head around modelling even a cup  from scratch in Blender so don't be put off trying the character morph even if the rest of Blender is a mystery :)

ZBrush is the best app to use for custom morphs. As long as a program has a sculpting tool you can use it.

Thank you and I'll go for Blender for now until I get some cash for the Zbrush.  I heard good things about it and most sales pages in Daz Store mentioned about using Zbrush to create those particular products.

Thank you.  I recently created a chessboard with chessmen on it and it came out descent.  My only problem is when I UV mapped and put the material in Blender, it did not show the material in Daz Studio when I exported it as .obj.  The material got lost during the transport.   I guess the material or texture has to be implemented inside the Daz Studio.  Also, the good thing about Blender are the tons of tutorial in Youtube and they are all free.

Thank you.  I do hope someday, Zbrush will be one of the 3D tools in my arsenal.  But for now, it is only a dream because of its price $795.
