IDG Portrait Studio soft/octa box very slow render

I recently bought IDG Portrait Studio and every time I load a softbox or octabox in my scene Iray slows to a crawl, often showing the same convergence number for 10 - 20 minutes at a time - even on a simple scene with 1 character and no background. I usually have no issues with large scenes and so my question is: are there any settings that I can tweak to help speed up my renders when using these lights? Has anybody else run into this?

I had this happen too, I'm sure. Although I didn't know what the cause was. I added a studio background and then a light set. When I rendered, it took 20 minutes to get to 1% I stopped it after an hour. I think it was only at 5%. The render didn't look too bad...even at 5%. But why sooo slow?

With this set (if it's the one I'm thinking aout) there are separate versions of the light sets: one using the "built-in" light types that D|S directly supports, and another using geometries and emissive lights. The latter will take longer to render, especially if your system isn't set up to render with a lot of CUDA cores.
