Why the snobbish library

Is it just me, or are other people having a problem with their content library after the latest update? It doesn't matter what folder I go to or how many times I scan for objects, my DAZ won't "see" cr2s for poser anymore. I go into the poser directory. I go into the DAz directory. If it's triax weighted it's okay If it's anything else, even if it's a cr2 I actually made *in* Daz, it's most likely not going to be there. Same goes for poses. I'm having to open my runtime library and manually drag and drop to use anything. This is... well... it's stupid.

I'm sorry to hear that.  I was applying poser items today from my content library with no problems.  I wonder if there are good ideas on how to resolve this quickly.

Is your content library directory listed in the Poser Formats section of the Content Directory Manager? It should be. This is what mine looks like, but your library names and locations will no doubt be different.

Yep, the directories are where they're supposed to be. But the folders are consistntly empty. Sometimes there are items, usually the items I used frequently that are supposed to be where they are just aren't there. For example, I have a cr2 called Belbel M that I made in DAZ. It no longer shows anywhere. Anime Doll, which is right where I left her, isn't showing anywhere.

I'm having to find a nearby folder, open it using the right click ffunction by clicking on item that is showing, navigate to the right folder in the Runtime directory, and drag and drop to get my items. It's annoying.

What version of Daz Studio are you running now and what version did you update from? There have been database conversation issues with some versions.

I go into the poser directory. I go into the DAz directory.

Are you absolutely sure you mean by this "the D|S Formats or Poser Formats subsections of the Content Library tab"? Because these are the only ways you will see the actual files in your Content folder on your computer's hard drive. Every other view; Products, Categories, or the Smart Content tab, are not views of your content files, they're sorted and filtered views of a database of links to your content files. The content database has improved a lot recently, but it can still misbehave.

That said, there does seem to be something very weird going on with the latest update, there have been a lot more than usual posts with similar problems. Try opening a support ticket (the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page) and see if they can help. Note that you will need to register with the help desk separately from your store/forum login, although you can use the same user details if you want.

Also, I should like to add to the complaint that I'm not getting notifications of replies. Sorry, guys. Didn't mean to ignore you.

I'm noticing other people are making similar complaints. This thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/98821/where-did-my-installed-content-go-and-just-what-is-gone-anyway#latest describes my situation nearly 100%. Computer I keep offline. DIM. Latest version of DAZ. A large number of products not showing up.

For example: in the DAZ content path, I go to props and then ! wardrobe. I see a group of folders (there are hundreds and growing as I slowly get things organized after years of just throwing things around the floor). Let's say the folders are: shirt, skirt, shoes, tie, fred, wilma, jane, and earrings. If the folder has a cr2 inside it will appear empty, usually. In this case I can right click on the folder and go to the path in Windows... which means a lot of guessing on my part because I've gotten quite attached to the picture icons. They're my widdle special guys.

I go to the Poser content path, props, then !wardrobe. I might see shirt.... but may also see.. shoes, jane, bling, and cheese. The folders will usually only show some weird extension file that does nothing if I click on it, and sometimes (but only sometimes) the cr2s will show.

If I scan for files I might get: shirt, skirt, shoes, tie,  jane and cheese.

If I right click on something inside to go to the directory I'm going to see: shirt, skirt, shoes, tie, socks, anklets, bling, earrings, stuffed animals, glasses, and other folders that aren't in the directireis no matter where I go to desperately look. I think I once found a ransom note from 4.9, but the conditions were written in binary and I proabably wouldn't be able to meet the demands anyway.

Hrm I wonder where the "next version request" thread is because I'd like to request we get away from this complicated DIM, DAZ Connect, file separation stuff because I want my folders and files back. I don't understand why the content library simply can't just list all of the folders within empty or not in one simple path and leave it up to us to use our brains. My tribe is counting on me. Wail.

SpottedKitty, I hardlyl think the content database has improved. I definitely feel it's much worse as I didn't have this problem just 1 and 2 updates ago. Support ticket has been opened and sits unanswered.

barbult, I've got their very latest update. It was first installed by DIM a week or so ago maybe 2, which always fubarrs things, so I had to download it and install it manually to get the  content manager to work. I haven't memorized its number or anything.

So I'm gathering from your input is I need to figure out how to roll back.

Poser content has always had weird conventions for where things were placed and there was no real consistency among vendors either. Frankly, your Daz Content path shouldn't have any CR files in it.

CR2 files should be in the \Runtime\Libraries\library folders (usually Character, which appears as Figures in the Content Library pane, but any Poser format item under any of the Poser library folders will show). DS files should not be in the \Runtime at all, unless they are side-car files alongside a matching Poser file (usually a DS materials preset alongside a Poser mat file so that each application loads the right settings from the same apaprent content item). It sounds as if you either have nested content directories (one inside another) which would mean DS didn't hide the inner Runtime and its subfolders under Daz Studio Formats or as if you have manually arranged the files in a way that doesn't respect the content types. If you want to have access to both formats in the same folder you need to use Categories, that's one of the issues it was created to address.

Sorry fo rthe silence. This time SOMEONE cut our internet cable with a pickaxe because they were too *stubborn* get a level and level the ground properly. Anyway...

If this is the case then why did my set up work before the last update? I have managed to get some folders to return by adding a simple X:/ to the content manager directory list for poser. This hasn't returned all of them, though. So I'm getting Suits, dress, skirt, and tie on one side and shoes, socks, necklaces on the other while underwear which contains viable cr2s that were once findeable is still being ignored.

I'm happy to say the DAZ team if on it, though. Crossing my fingers.
