Question Regarding my PC Hardware and Rendering

Hello all!

I'm new. And not particularly bright. So, now that I've got that out of the way, my question:

Why does Render Settings not offer a GPU option for rendering?

Here are my system specs:

OS: Win 10

CPU: AMD FX-6300 6-core 3.5 GHz

8GB RAM

Video Card: XFX R7800

When I look under 'Display Adapter' in Device Manager, it says my video is AMD Radeon HD 7800 series.

So. Do I have a GPU? If not, should I be trying to render in Iray at all?

Thanks! Any suggestions or comments would be deeply appreciated.

Frank

Hate to tell you this, but Iray is an Nvidia product, so an AMD GPU is not going to be available to render with.  You would need an Nvidia GPU for that.

  • Ouch. Well, okay, until I can grab an Nvidea card, should I use 3DDelight,  or stick with Iray rendering and just let the CPU slug it out?

    Thanks!

um... well, I'd stick with Iray. If you switch to 3Delight there's a steep learning curve.

Thanks! I really appreciate your help. I'm blown away by the quality of IRay renders, and if it takes hours to render until I get a new card, that's cool.

I've had more fun with DAZ than any other software I've tried. And you guys and gals here on the forum are awesome!

Make sure you aim for a card with at least 4GB of VRAM and the most Cuda cores you can afford.  The latest Pascal (?) cards are not yet implemented in Iray.

I bought an Asus TitanX, used from eBay. Best investment I have made in a long time.
