Speed up rendering in a Dome environment

pkappeteinpkappetein Posts: 506

I am playing along to find a perfect speed for rendering..  I am fighting this for a month now,  since it's going so slow when I use a Dome in my settings.

If I lower the Occlusion  then it goes faster, but then the image doesn't look that great either.

Are there some settings to improve the speed, there are so many settings, and no clue what they all do.

Currently 1 frame takes between 30-60 seconds.   and rending 1000 frames,  is taking ages.

If I take the dome out,  then it's only like 10-20 seconds per frame.

Which render engine are you using, 3Delight or Iray? Please give a link to a product with the kind of dome you are using. What kind of lighting are you using? These answers will help people in the forum offer advice.

    I am using  3Delight.

I am using all of the Dream Home items,  so i have 1 big house yard / pool  etc. (making a movie sequence)

and using the  Light Enviroment (Incoming Storm)  from  SkullCoveSkyDome

I don't have the Skull Cove product, but the store page says the lighting environment is set up for fast renders. I'm guessing it probably uses UberEnvironment 2, since you mentioned turning occlusion off. UE2 does slow down renders, but gives a more realistic lighting effect. Have you tried the different quality presets for UE2 that come with Daz Studio? If not, look in the Content Library pane and find the Default Resources product. In there you will find some presets starting with the words "Set Quality". Those will adjust various UE2 settings all at once. Maybe for a movie you can get by with one of the lower settings, although, perhaps the Skull Cove product has already optimized those settings.

ok found them... did a search...  and it's those tea kettles right?.     it does speed it up, but then it's ugly lol...

so  i'll play with these settings.   Thanks for pointing me into the direction

Yes, these teapots. It shouldn't look ugly, unless maybe you went to the very lowest setting, which is for quick draft renders to see how the lighting is looking.

Another thing to check is your shading rate and number of ray traces in the Render Settings pane. Higher shading rate is faster. Lower ray trace number is faster. Be careful with ray traces. Don't go too low if you need reflections or refraction (both of which will also slow your renders).

Are you sure the Render Engine is set to 3Delight? Which version of DS?

Using the latest version  4.9  (no beta)

    And it's set for 3Delight.

Select "All"  so i can see all the settings, and went under each section as well.

The options should appear as highlighted below (the bounce setting is not labelled number of ray traces).
