Studio 4.5 freezing up constantly.
It just freezes all the time.
I load a figure it lets me do a few things then freezes.
Keeping in mind I've been using every version of Daz *except* 4 for years (since 2005) I know how to set up a scene etc.
I did read all the documentation scrupulously. I can give you screen caps of the installation if you like but it would be redundant because they would show that my installation is exactly what is described in the tutorials.
My comp is 64 bit running Win 7 and has 8 gigs of ram.
This problem applies to the Genesis figures *and* the brand new Genesis stuff I just bought (which I'm starting to regret) *and* all my V4.2 stuff which I've re downloaded with brand new meta data and re installed exactly as ordered *and* all the older legacy stuff which I re installed (not copied) exactly as per instructions.
It doesn't matter what I do. It chugs along for awhile and I'm just starting to like it and appreciate what it can do and then it freezes up and I can't get it to unlock unless I shut down the program.
Now here is what I'm hoping the problem isn't.
I also have Daz Studio 3.2 Pro on my system. It is also not running as smoothly as it used to. It crashes during renders and it never ever used to do that before.
This isn't wild complicated stuff I'm doing here. I'm not creating content or making movies or exporting morphs or obj. files. ( I used to do that though) I just want to use the thing as advertised..to set up scenes and render them.
I can't do that if it keeps crashing. I'd be happy to ditch my 3.2 version if I felt i could trust this 4.5 one but it still seems buggy as hell.
is it because I have both versions on the same system or is anyone else having this problem?
Comments
should have said 3.1.2 etc Advanced Edition. Got carried away with my ranting there
I take it you're running the 64-bit versions of DS3.1.2.32 and DS4.5.1.6?
Any changes to graphics card or drivers? Anything else recently installed at the time this started happening? Windows updates?
i have not installed the 4.5 yet on my main macvhine i will try it out on the laptop first..
i started with daz in 2008 and still have my runtime form the 2er version.
daz 3 64 bit is installed on another drive - with no content.uses the same runtime than daz 2.
daz 4 (still on another partition)uses its "my library" ,all genesis content etc. and of course the runtime form daz 2.
i install all my genesis into daz 4 and other files into the runtime of old.
so far never had conflicts
and i never ever let daz search for content nor using any content manager.
just point in the preferences which directories to use (daz native ,poser etc)
i have mi interface set up to show me the folders the way they are on my harddisk ( i structured my main runtime the way jakiblue described in his tutorial long time ago,and with 300 gigs of content i can still manage my content the way i want.)
for the time beeing i can do all that i want in the versions i have installed. they suit my needs.i wait before installing daz 4.5.
ps i run the 64-bit versions of daz3/4 .win 7 -64 bit 16 gig ram/nvidia graphics.
Both 3 and 4, the ones misbehaving, are on the same machine, right?
No, both versions can be installed side-by-side, so that isn't the problem...but, the Content Management Service could be. On my machine, the CMS starts and stops with the program...and it does it for both 4.x and 3.x. So if you have something that is interfering with the CMS it could lock up whichever one you are using at the time.
Check the log file and see if there is anything in there from when it freezes up.
DS3 doesn't use the CMS, and unless he's modified the default behavior it starts with Windows. not with DS.
Yes, using the 64 bit versions of both versions. Both on the same machine.
Recently upgraded the drivers for my Geforce 9600 because i thought that was the problem and that seemed to make a difference at first.
This problem has been going on for a couple of weeks.
I didn't want to complain in public.
I wanted to figure this out w/out bitching about it.
OK...I'll check the log files.
I haven't booted either of them up since I posted this.
