Help... directories mixed up and missing
I have been using DAZ 3.11 to create the artwork in my graphic novels. I have published four novels, each more than 100 pages containing at least 200 full color images.
I am currently working on my fifth book... about 50 images complete... and for some inexplicable reason my directories have become mixed up. When I try to load a previously saved scene, it cannot find the scene's component parts.
When I checked my "preferences" I noticed that several directories seemed to be missing. (Yes, I have several directories. Over the years, my directories grew.)
I cannot find the body of my work.
If I cannot access my directories, I will have lost a year's work.
My directories are complicated by the number of drives: C, F and G.

Are you using the same development version - beta or release? Those have different directory lists. You can add your directories back either by right-clicking on the Daz Studio Formats/Poser Formats headings in the Content Library or by going to the Content Directroy Manager (Content Library pane option menu, or Edit>Preferences>Content Library tab and click the Content Directory Manager button).
I am not using the beta. I am using DAZ 3.1.2.32
While my artwork is still available, the directory for all my dowloads seems to be gone. I may have to re-install them.
In looking at my DAZ installer, it seems the target directory was changed to a non existing directory. I believe the directory tree woukd be cirrect if tt were in G: rather than F:
I tried to manually change the target directory to G: on the Installer, but it would not allow it.
Do you think this is the problem? And if so, how should I fix it?
I can't recall how to edit the content directory set-up in DS 3, Edit>Preferences I think. You should be able to update the paths there, and then the content should work. If this is an external drive the letter assigned can change if you connect it in a different order from usual, with something else occupying it's usual ID: you should be able to change the letter assigned from the Disk Management application in Windows.
You are using an older version of Daz Studio. Many people here are not familiar with that version. For example, I started in early 2012 with version 4.0. I suggest you submit a help request to Daz Customer Support. https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Richard, I believe that is exactly what happened. I had to travel with my laptop and unplugged both my external drives. I replugged them in the wrong ports. When I realized my error, I put them in the correct ports, rebooted, but the problem remained.
I have unplugged my F: Drive.... which is where my Daz kept looking for directories. And I deleted all directories except the correct one from my Edit/Preferences/Directories.... and it still cannot find my files! When I try to load a saved scene... it loads 54% of the file, then tells me it cannot find a file... so I manually find it (it is in the directory path I had left in my Preferences). But it is exhausting to manually locate each texture. How can I direct my Daz program to search in the correct place for these textures?
Textures should ask you for the correct location, and once one has been corrected the rest using that path should be found (then resave so you have the correct path). What is the path it is trying to find (and failing)?
G:Tom/Studio/My Daz3D Library/runtime/textures
That's the path with the file, or the path it says it can't find?
So it's using the absolute path in the error? I didn't think it usually did that.
I am at a standstill in my work on my next book. Do you have any suggestions at all?
Sorry, we seem to have elminated the obvious. perhaps if you upload one of the scene files or presets theer may be an issue apparent there.
How do I do that? And upload to where?
You should be able to attach a .duf file to your post by clicking the Attach a File link under the text box.
I am attaching the file. But it seems all my files have the same story.
Also, I get a 404 error message at start up.
I think the file is too big to attach. It has been uploading for 30 minutes.
You could try a smaller file, or use something like Dropbox.
Ok... I will try a smaller file
Not even a small file will upload. I get a message "no file data could be found in your post."
What format is the file you are uploading - .duf? I just tested and it did accept a smaller file.
No... in details setting it says Daz Studio Scene
I am using Daz 3.1.2.32
I think you may be having a Windows problem (assuming you're using Windows of some flavor) rather than simply a Studio problem. When you unplug and replug drives, Windows will reassign drive letters if you haven't used the Manage/Disk Drives option to permanently assign drive letters. Did you do that first?
The number of drives doesn't matter as long as they have unique names (so you can identify them easily; Windows doesn't care) and you've used Disk Manager to assign permanent drive letters so that plugging and unplugging doesn't change the letter assignment.
If you are using Windows, what version are you using? XP, 7, 8/8.1, 10? (I warn you right now, I haven't so much as seen Windows 10 in the wild, and my one experience with 8.1 led to me pasting Classic Shell on that sucker right away.)
Assuming you're using Windows, when you go into My Computer to see all the disk drives, do the individual drives show the letters they usually have?
I am using Window 7 in Home version. And My Computer is showing proper directory designations.
The issue seems to be your drive letters (aside from C:) have gotten re-assigned. You may have the wrong letter for each drive. This can happen sometimes, depending on port order and startup. Once it is assigned, it will tend to 'keep' that letter. But if you disconnect it, then reconnect it to a different port, it may get other letters assigned.
Make sure that where DAZ is looking for files at ("G:Tom/Studio/My Daz3D Library/runtime/textures") is not actually now at "F:Tom/Studio/My Daz3D Library/runtime/textures".
If that IS the issue, you'll need to use the Disk Manager to re-assign your drive letters. It's in the Control Panel, under Administrative Tools. If you aren't sure of what you are doing in there, I recommend having a more tech-savvy friend do it.
I think that part has been checked and resolved... but I will check again.
Took a while, but I found Disk Management. The status of all Directories is Healthy, Primary Partition.
