If a penny saved is a penny earned you could easily get rich that way.

That expression bothers me.  If you have the penny, you've already earned it.  Whether you save it or spend it, it was still earned first...unless your rich daddy gave it to you.  laugh

Besides, a penny isn't worth much these days.  It would take an awfull lot of them to be rich.  What do you consider rich?  One million dollars?  That would take One hundred million pennies!  I can't imagine how much room that would take up.  surprise  I should go eat...my mind is wandering now.

    Dana

real copper pennies worth more than a penny?

what's the new 'save' icon?  floppy disk is so last decade. smiley

my database creation has a rich text field, but there no way to put an emoji in it. crying

Sorry to interject but floppy disk is so last century! surprise  Or even so last millenium!!

I had a giggle yesterday.  I went into a drugstore to get something and they had a bargain table set up just inside the door.  Lots of great bargains.  Then I spied the boxes of 10 hard 3.25 inch floppy disks.  I burst out laughing and almost bought a box for the 50 cents they were asking, just to put in my museum.  But I just kept on walking and giggling.  I figured that the recording oxide was flaking off already despite sitting unopened on the drugstore shelf for the last 20 years.

I've even thrown away my precious Zip drives and disks.

Anybody need a 5 pound parallel printer cable? giggle...

Storage icon?  Hmmm... how about a cloud in a box, or a box around the letters "MEM" or a filing cabinet (no, that's really ancient), or how about a rock, chisel & hammer?  Hmmm...  this is really a problem.   What IS an icon for storage?

Let's go back to basics.  The original storage medium was a delay line.  A tube filled with a spring or mercury where the input was delayed through the tube for a few milliseconds then the signal came out the other end at the right time to be used in the next part of the algorithm.  Then there was paper tape, paper cards & magnetic drums, then ferrite cores, etc.

How about just a box with a curved arrow dumping in and a curved arrow pumping out?

Heck, none of my computers even have built-in optical drives now! (& I don't even bother ripping blu rays anymore now that they come with download codes. Must be a year since I bought an audio CD even!)

You'll be sorry when your hard drive crashes and all is lost!  I hope you have a good backup scheme!

Folder with an arrow pointing in works for several applications (with a folder with an arrow pointing out for loading).

I have my lifetime collection of classical music CDs and still keep adding to it as I find (and can afford) pieces I like.  I've ripped all of them to a digital library and have copied many of them to a single 128GB thumbdrive plugged into my smart TV but it's my CDs that I treasure.  Someday my heirs will take them all to the dump, and toss my computers & thumbdrives because of their pitifully tiny capacity and their lack of interest in my music.  I don't think I could even interest a library or radio station in them.  Sigh. sad

I have a computer sitting on that desk over there that still has a floppy drive, has prgrams on it that were installed from a floppy disc,  has Win XP as an OS and still works perfectly well.   I also have to boxes of vinyl records upstairs and several cases full of music cassettes  I also have a little music set up in the kitchen that will play the casettes, although I have to admit I do not have a record player at the moment.

It's hiding behind the micro hi-fi and USB MP3 player.   You can see the monitor peeping over the top of that, cos the monitor is sitting on top of the PC, it's a little Dell, one of those flat ones that sit down on the desk. and really it's not my computer, it was himself''s computer.

..I have several large cases of Classical LPs in climate controlled storage, a good number of them from the 1950s and 60s which still sound clean..

..agh, for a moment I read that as Dr Strangelove and was ready fo grab the pitchfork, tar, and feathers and head to Hollywood to find the producer who would have perpetrated such blasphemy by remaking one of my all time favourite films.

Some things are best left the way they are as they could never be improved on.

...well, had three unusually nice days in row.  Made it to 70° today.  Figured this may be the last time this year so pulled out one of hte Hawai'ian shirts and wnt out for the afternoon.  Stopped at the Hawai'ian BBQ joint on the way home to pick up the dinner.  The fellow there must have liked the shirt as I ordered a small and when I got home, discovered teh serving he gave me was almost two sizes larger.

...cant think...stupid brain starved of oxygen...agggggghhhh...

JUST GLUE SOME GEARS ON IT (AND CALL IT STEAMPUNK)
So use the word "steampunk" correctly, old chap
And don't use it to refer to crappe

It's simply not cricket -- crickets?

I still have 3 brand new boxes of 20 x 3M rainbow disks. Thought about throwing them out but I can see they go for $30 per box on ebay so maybe not:
