Squirrels are my mortal enemies... Over the years they have chewed up thousands of dollars worth of equipment... Anything made of vinyl, light rubber or urethane elastomers is apparently delicious to them. I had to switch to copper or PVC lines for my fountains because they chew up any flexible hoses and lines... Have to shield wires from them using steel wool or copper barriers... They get into the junction boxes and electrocute themselves dining on the insulation.

We had two huge apple trees... They managed to kill one by constantly gnawing almost all the buds off it early in the spring, the other they strip of apples the moment they start to form... They don't eat them, they take one bite, taste it and drop it, try another and reject it and keep doing it until there are no more... Same with my friend's peaches and nectarines... They don't eat any of them, they just destroy them to see what each one is like, probably looking for some magical one that is tasty to squirrels.

They also have an annoying habit of hollowing out young sassafras tree and nesting in them... If they are lucky the tree makes it through the winter intact, if not... it snaps in a windstorm where they weakened it, usually killing them and sending the tree top flying. Even if the tree survives the winter the damage they cause kills it before the summer is over.

They also decimate local bird (mostly robins and small birds) nests because they find the chicks very tender and tasty.

Its hilarious to see them try it on grey mockingbirds... The male and female usually both attack... They will literally hunt them down relentlessly, pecking them and harassing them until they completely vacate the area... Squirrels are not used to enemies who can fly and to whom hiding in a tree is meaningless.

They are welcome to frolic in the park... But around here they are just tree rats.

Squirrels may be cute poster children but as you point out, cute doesn't always mean harmless.  Gremlins for example.   Do NOT feed the gremlins!!!!!!

    Or tribbles.

They have no contact with each other but they can see each other.   I tried to put a to do list in between them but they can still see each other.  by the way they are not my alters but my pets.  I would have them at it but I am not ready to take care of their babies nor am I ready to see another dead fish.
