The flower heads are about the size of two fists on huge (at least ours is) broad-leafed growth four or five feet high :)

...bugger, they've been hit a couple times in the last few years. 7.8 is pretty strong. The epicentre was just north of Christchurch which is still recovering from the 6.3 quake in 2011. Yeah, anytime there's a big quake on the "ring" I get worried here because of the Cascadia Subduction Zone just off our coast. Should that slip it is expected to produce a massive quake stronger than the one Japan experienced that same year.

My new wireless USB adapter is acting up. Maybe it is overheating. This is the last time I buy a small USB wifi adapter.

It can be a wireless client or a wireless router or a repeater or an access point. As a wireless client it can provide a wired LAN connection to your laptop. I use one for wireless access to an older smart TV that only has wired LAN connector (i.e. the TV doesn't have USB or built in wireless capability).

Then the WR810N used as a repeater might extend your range if used at some midpoint between your wireless router and your computer. However, it wouldn't solve the overheating problem of your current wireless tranceiver but you might be able to get away with using your built-in transceiver or a different standard one (i.e. non-high gain) that would not use as much power and get so hot.
I've never used my WR810N as a repeater so I can't comment on its level of functionality but still it's affordable. I got mine on sale for $29.

Big bright full moon night surrendered to tepid grey day, think the wind haz 180d and storm clouds that blew in from southward have u-turned on us, wind change feels warmish so not altogether a bad thing if you like thunderstormz :)
lets hope it doesn't come to that for us this year, altho it wont take much heat for all the green to turn to tinder :)
