Thanks. I just darkened the diffuse channel and lowered the specular a bit since it was my personal taste, other than that it works fine in IRAY. I really don't think it needs any specific IRAYmaterials since that would just over complicate it. The diffuse texture is very well done as are the discplacement and normal maps.
Wow looks great! Thank you very much for your support! Yes most of the models (there are some of DinoRaul's as well) on my Shutterstock page are mine however I'm building all models for Daz from the ground up so they'll all be new and better quality. The Spinosaurus will be coming after the Dakotarpator is finished. It will look fairly close to the newest one on my SS page.
Terrific, thanks! Psyched for these new dinos. Picking up the Rex today!
Grabbed him as soon as I saw him. Of course it took me 4 hours to check out....Can't wait to see the rest of your creatures! Super excited about the whole thing LOVE dinosaurs.
Nope, just loaded it into carrara 8.5. It loads fine and you can render it, but the rig is not attached to the mesh, so when you apply a pose, the skeleton poses, but the mesh stays in default pose. I wonder if it is an easy fix?
Hi Herschel! Awesome T-Rex!! Are you able to post a link to your SS page? Have you considered making some marine reptiles as well? Plesiosaur, Shonisaurus, Mosasaur, Kronosaurus, Tylosaurus...I would buy every single one of those if it looked as good as your T-Rex.
I have done marine reptiles before and I can deffinitely make some for Daz. Here's a link to my SS page: https://www.shutterstock.com/g/Herschel+Hoffmeyer
Holy crap!! The dinos on your SS page look stunning! I loved the Capcom videogame franchise Dino Crisis (at least the first two installements, lol), and have been wanting to recreate some of the more memorable moments. Here's hoping you create a bunch of these dinos for Daz Studio!
wow.. incredible work.
(also that lava environment is beautiful too).. Edit: actually all those environment shots are beautiful.)
Herschel, your Hell Creek environment looks amazing. Any chance of creating some landcapes also for DAZ so we can have a place to pose your new creations?
If your new trike looks anything like the one in your gallery, I will be happy!
So out of curiousity, how long did it take to develop the TRex and what modeling app did you use?
Another image, the Tyrant king reflects on past meals, LOL
Nice render, where are the dino skulls from?
The landscapes are actually not mine and were purchased from the UE4 marketplace. I use Unreal Engine to render out the backgrounds and add dinosaurs in through photoshop. The T. rex or any dinosaur I do takes about 10-15 days from beginning to fully functional in Daz (given each of those days I put in at least 4 hours of work on it, usually around 10-12 per day). Prior to Daz, everything (sculpting, retop, UV, and textures maps) is done in Zbrush.
I got them from Sketchfab.
Herschel, thanks for the info, good to know. I was amazed at how detailed the Rex mesh was, even without the displacement and normal maps which is indictative of Zbrush
Nice info on the landcapes. I am not a postwork person, I love unbiased rendering and would rather spend the time setting up a 3D environment with correct shaders and surfaces and let the renderer do the work.
Bummer. It looks so good I might get it anyway and see if an alternative file format (Collada?) might allow save the rigging.
Tried it out in carrara as an .FBX file format and generic Collada. The Collada seemed to work fine, although you will have to pose it yourself and I didn't see a slot for the displacement texture (not that you need it)
Thanks, yes. I picked it up. The Collada format allows for manually posing, but not for applying a pose preset once in Carrara. Similarly, in order to change texture maps once in Carrara, I'd have to manually load the maps. However, to start a scene or for a still, can pose and map in Studio and then export.
Off to play with my new toy.
Awesome model! Glad to hear it has Iray materials even though it isn't mentioned on the store page.
Thanks for telling me Herschel.
And as others have said, welcome to DAZ! I eagerly look forward to seeing what other gems you create and share with us. :-)
I think what they said was that it doesn't have Iray materials but it's pretty easy to convert.
Finally did a real render and not a quicky. Great model!
Nice render looking good. Which triceratops is that?
Iray is the physically based render (PBR) engine, from NVIDIA, built into DAZ Studio. Iray shaders, if done corrcetly, will make a huge difference to making his skin look even more real.
Holy wow! Those are incredible! My wallet just imformed me its moving out of the country lol.
It's good to see someone working on accuracy-oriented prehistoric creatures again after Digital I disappeared and Dinoraul has almost entirely moved on to making plants beyond a few niche cases here and there.
Not to sound greedy or anything, but is there any chance we might see some creatures from the Hell Creek formation that are often considered "living fossils" due to their extant relatives, such as gar or bowfin?
That is a really nice model. I assume the models will get more complicated once you start doing species with feathers; indeed it would probably be correct (although maybe not dramatic) if Tyrannosaurus chicks were covered in downy feathers.
As mentioned, a pack of 'background creatures', even if low poly (fish, small reptiles, mammals) would be really handy.
RX: This could be a possibility later down the road.
synechodus_b7d65b3411: I'm currently working on the Dakotaraptor which is covered all the way the down to the top of its toes. It is taking a bit longer than the rex because I'm sculpting every single feather manually. I've learned from this porcess though and developed a few tricks to speed up the process quite a bit. Once I get around five dinosaurs up on the market I will be going back and adding age variants of the exiting models. These age variants will be completely seperate models due to many different anatomical features such as added feathers (the rex will certainly be covered in feather and fuzz at a young age). I don't know if Daz allows me to add these models to the already existing package, but if not I can certainly include them in a speperate package. Some background animals can certainly be a possibility later down the road after a handful of models have been submitted.
Edit: Here's a preview of the Dakotaraptor. I'm currently in the middle of sculpting out the high-poly version that will be used to create the displacement and normal maps. The feathers are not finished and will be more detailed than this. Also the top of its feet will be covered as well.
NICE!
This one is in Iray straight out of the box. I didn't even convert the mats. No postwork although I will be doing postwork, hoping to get started tomorrow evening.
Saw this T-Rex and KNEW it would not wait. This is an idea I have had for some time - just a super rough, quick version of it, but you get the idea.
Can't wait to see/purchase more of your amazing dinosaurs!
will the hign poly version be sold here? or do you intend to sell only a lower poly version?
Love the images that are being posted.
This one made me smile though. The only worry really, she'd fit very well in that mouth. :(
