Something I've been working on. No idea how long it'll take to make it through the system.

42 days from that posting to into my library. Very nice set.

Thank you, I hope you put it to good use.

Speaking of the ten years,  I'll be retiring a bunch of the really old items from the olde days. Just a heads up. I'm pretty sure no one needs m4 pose sets or really dated poser6 content anymore. Everybody have a great weekend!

Thanks for the heads up. I got wind of it just now, so it's too late, but the thought counts. One thing some vendors don't realise is that some people actually DO buy older items. I animate with Carrara. So, I use items going back to Generation 1. I know the items you're "retiring" have been in the store for a long time, but most of the time, smaller producers buy things AS they need them. I'm not Sony, so I pick things up AS I need them or when the price is too much to pass up (Daz's BYOB $1.99 for 8). I bought till my credit card begged for mercy. A couple smart vendors over at "the other place" are releasing NEW pose sets with V4, G3 & G8 included. Gen 4 ain't dead. I know you're not moving much of that old stuff, but remember buildings, vehicles, poses for Gen 4, certain props are NEVER "past their sale date."

Thanks for the info and I'll keep it in mind for the future.

  • Another set in the pipeline as part of the 1stBastion Buildings line:   Fire Station

I wonder why it is not released in the DAZ Shop yet?

I submitted it in Feb 2017, Daz said they didn't want it, not realistic enough for them.

Have you ever considered uploading it to Renderosity?

Just a heads up that I'm going to be retiring some older products,  like pre SKU 22000.  They are a bit dated. Mostly pre iRay.

So early genesis pose set or props,  with 3DL and poser mats depending on the set.  I'm going to ask for a sale on these,  but no guarantees. Don't have mush sway on those decisions.  Just giving a heads up,  cause last time they pulled them far quicker than expected.

Thanks for the heads up. Went and put wishlists on many of them I hadn't had a chance to buy yet.

Thanks for the heads up. The First Bastion retiring sale was up on sale early today. A lot of the products that Daz put on sale seem really good and my guess is they hold up quite nicely with a bit of work. Some of these I've never seen before so I'll get the ones that catch my eye for sure. love your products man. Is it better to retire than to update the products?

It's a good question. As PAs we learn new things as we develop these products through the years.  Though I could update these to Iray and still keep them in the store, and the products would, as you say hold up well enough,  they are starting to show their age. Most of these are in the 6-8 year old range and built for the computers of that time.  Tech wise hardware is capable of pushing a lot more polies these days.   If  they would be created with todays standards, they would likely have a higher level of details in the polygon modelling and include PBR texturing.  The thing is,  if a customer is still using 3DL the products will deliver exactly what they see in the promos.  If a customer has been around for a while and has grown and learned to convert to iray these can  still produce great results.  I'm no where near as prolific at making these as I was a few years back, but the thought of going in and updating old products  to iray is not as appealing as potentially making something new.

I own quite a few of them, and have actually used them too!

And I forgot about this one: https://www.daz3d.com/classic-recurve-bow-smart-prop-and-poses - even though I have it. I think I'll have to convert/redo some poses for G8; it's rare enough to have decent archery poses!

Looking forward to what is yet to come!

The Gallerie set is one of my favourites, and was very happy when Gallerie Bastion appeared as an Iray option as well. I would have loved to see an Iray version of the Gallerie Display Props.

Thank you for your response, I am pretty new to Daz but very interested in some of your items going on sale today, so will try to get them and be on the lookout for new releases too since Im curious on how much impact  tech has on models.

I picked up a number of items I had been looking at and today used the Ambush Bundle in a render, without trying to adjust for Iray. I just used a modern HDRI and a spotlight on my figure. It came out very nice. I had been picking up many of your sets over the years. Regardless of age, they hold up well and do the job. And with characters and things getting to be more resource intensive, that is a blessing. Thank you.

Is there a specific reason why "spacious interior" https://www.daz3d.com/gallerie-bastion-spacious-interior and "a flight of stairs" https://www.daz3d.com/a-flight-of-stairs are not in the sale while they are in a discounted bundle that is supposed to disappear https://www.daz3d.com/spacious-interior-bundle

Does this mean that they wil remain in the daz catalog?

Or do I need to purchase the bundle to get them (given that I already own the two other products :()

Another unrelated and more general question. Will the product description pages and readmes be removed with the products or will they remain? While most other sites just keep these pages (while rendering the product unpurchasable), Daz generally removes them and this is *VERY* annoying not to be able to look at those pages before using an asset.

When items leave the store, the product description pages go, but the readmes usually stick around.

...my system is 8 years old.  While I've made some upgrades (increasing memory to the most the MB can support [24 GB], replacing the old i7 with a 6 core/12thread  Xeon,  replacing the boot and Daz library HDDs with SSDs and adding a Maxwell Titan-X) it is still pretty much "old tech". I cannot afford anything new as I'm on a fairly meagre retirement pension,. Hence, content that requires more "robust" hardware can present issues.

For example I have not updated to Daz 4.15 because it is "weightier" than the version I am using (a 4.12 beta) as well as has some annoying bugs, which the version I use doesn't (interesting for a beta as it was even more stable than the final General Release).  As I have an older GPU, the newest version tends to use more VRAM as it's optimised for the new RTX cards (which are pretty much impossible to obtain right now without selling an organ or limb and not sure if they'll even work with PCIe 2.0 slots).

Anyway, definitely picking up the Ambush Alley bundle and Sci Fi Blast Bunker as they fit well with the cyber/post apocalyptic worlds in my stories and I can convert those to Iray easily (I've done that with a number of older sets, even fairly complex ones) and I still think they look great.

I panicked at first thinking you were retiring ALL your products from the store, then calmed down when I saw it was only older stuff.  I have to say, at the prices they're going for, I feel like I'm stealing from you to buy the gallerie simple / props!

Using RiverSoft Arts / SickleYields 3DL / Iray conversion shaders, I'll have this looking gorgeous in no time (well, THEY will).... I actually have a large crowd scene that I want to do and the gallerie simple will be perfect for it!

    So thank you!

  • Whereas I still use 3DL and never iray, so this sale (hidden at the bottom of the page!) was absolutely my cup of tea.  Thank you!

  • Faeryl WomynFaeryl Womyn Posts: 3,625

I don't use iRay since my current computer can't handle it and the new computer I'm waiting for my son in law to finish has a 650 Nvidia card, so I'm still a 3DL person.

What are the chances they will be available somewhere else, for those people that still want them, like maybe sharecg?

  • FirstBastionFirstBastion Posts: 7,760

It's great to hear that these products will continue to  be put to good use in your artworks and storytelling. I always like seeing the resulting artwork,  so post links or pictures if you get the chance. Thank you all for the support and keep telling those stories.

    Answering some of the above.

There's two school of thought on retiring products. There's the just quietly remove them crowd. Then there's the headsup notification .  I think giving the option for all of you to clear some things off the old wishlist is the better route.  Being able to get some quality items at very reasonable prices or alternatively  clearing it once and for all off the wishlist. It's all good.

I'm still using DS4.10 myself cause its the most efficient version for quick rendering on my system configuration. I did upgrade to 4.12 but found my iray renders slowing down and since I also still render with 3DL regularly there were unexplained artifacts with 3DL renders.  SO I dropped back to 4.10.   I know I'm going to have to buy a new computer with an RTX card to get 4.15 to work. Trouble is you can't find them anywhere to buy them.

Gallerie Bastion is staying in the store,  because it alreay has an Iray update.  Flight of Stairs is staying for now cause there's nothing else like it in the store and renders out of the box in iray relatively well once the interior lights are adjusted.

Will these be available else where?  I don't know. Though I've had a few Christmas gift items on sharecg in the past,  I would not add these products there.  I have been considering setting up a Patreon, but I would think  that would focus on new stuff more than old stuff. Not sure. Don't really have an answer on that. But the June 18th retirement is probably it.

Hopefully I've answered some of the questions and comments above. Keep 'em coming. AND always remember,  If you give me a headsup on where you've incorporated the 1stB products into a creative project I'll showcase it in the "Sightings" thread.

That's been done for a long while now,  arond the same time as the fire station was finished,  but it's just sitting there on a backup drive.  What I'm going to do with it,  I'm not sure,  the NeighYard environment  has survived 3 product culls already so something's gonna happen with it eventually.

The Shopping Mall will for sure get the Iray treatment.

The Neighbour's Yard is getting a remake, the houses will have interiors and the garages will be usable.

The 1950's Era Motel, certainly deserves an update. I'll get that done soon.

I'm very much looking forward to these, even if you decide to make it available elsewhere.

In the past two days, I was lucky enough, through your generosity, to pick-up 13 of your wonderful sets. There were a few I never thought I would be able to buy.

Sir, I thank you so much.
