Once beyond the Audubon and 10 year SBRM Anniversary sale, I'll be free to mix up my project list a little more. Besides the 5 raptor (Hawks, Falcons, Eagles, etc) volumes... Motherhood2, Hornbills and SBRM Asia will be in play.

Looking forward to your raptors series, particularly the hawks. Love your birds!

Thanks. The raptors volumes will probably start to appear in mid-summer into the winter... Falcons first, then 2 Hawks volumes (Old World & New World) and then Eagles. Sooner (by the end of February), you should see the first in my waterfowl series (Geese, Loons and Grebes) and a revamped Toucans (updates are free to current owners).

A few more entries have come in...

    Haast's Eagles?

The Haast's eagle isn't on my primary list-- BUT the list is just a prospective list and subject to change... I prefer to do non-extinct species first. I'll write the Haast's in as an alternate. What's on the current list?

    Bald Eagle
    Golden Eagle
    Vulturine Fish Eagle
    African Fish-eagle
    Pallas's Fish-eagle
    Short-toed Snake-eagle
    Crested Serpent-eagle
    Harpy Eagle
    Crested Eagle
    Ornate Hawk-eagle
    Wedge-tailed Eagle
    Greater Spotted Eagle
    Steppe Eagle

For those who don't know, the Haast's Eagle went extinct (around 1400) because it's main food source, the Moa (a giant flightless bird-- sort of like an emu), was hunted to extinction by the Maori.

    Back to the contest...

We're about a month away... so start your render engines :)

I'm working on an entry for the Songbird Remix contest, too. It is a different render than the Pelicans a few months ago. Never entered a formal contest before, so I'll be crossing my fingers. I am looking forward to seeing the Harpy Eagle in the new birds that Ken is working on.

The Harpy Eagle quite a ways off... but yes I'm doing it. It's more unlikely I'll have the Goose set done in time to use in the contest but a revised/updated bird product and a new "undisclosed" bird product will be :)

The updated/revised product is my "Toucans" which has received a SBRM3 facelift (additional Materials, Body Parts (for fluff transparencies on the crest and rump and a second neck section for smoother neck bends), plus two additional Toucans have been added to the set as well as some props (Tree branch and berries(for Fruit tossing courtship behavior)). The updates will be live when that and the "other" product appear in New Releases.

    ---

I got a PM on whether "Flock Formations" is a legit product for the contest. Yes, it is...

    Cool images :)

    Some contest notes...

If you haven't checked the contest entry page in a while... I posted a few new entries...

I've updated more SBRM volumes to take care of the DS 4.5 foot scaling issues. See my downloads for details. I'll hopefully get through the remaining 200-300 birds in the next week. In the meantime, the downloads do have a DS4.5 scaling fix tool, if you need it. What still need to be done? The Australias, Legend, Europe2, TEE 3, Hawaii, C&U3; and all my freebies). Once all the updates are done, they will be given to DAZ and they'll become part of the standard installer package (probably at Audubon sale time).

..and my main SongbirdRemix.com page now shows a sneak page at the items soon to be released at the store.

I designed this contest years ago to get artists to actually put birds in images. With birds being the most common wildlife experience we have (walk outside-- see a bird), it's surprising to me how many birdless images there are.
    <<snip>>

Ken, ever since I read this, I've been trying to put at least one bird in most renders I do. It does add a nice touch. Unfortunately, I don't have much bird variety yet, but I plan to get more in the future.

For those of you who own Toucans, the files have just be updated... if you use the DS version you'll need to install the Poser and DS version (the DS installers just has the character & material settings and texture and not the new obj or cr2 files-- I'm working on DAZ to get those files included).

The new Toucans update includes two new toucans, the Swainson's Toucan and the Black-billed Mountain Toucan, plus a tree branch prop and berry props (for courtship fruit tossing). The .cr2/obj enhancements include more transparency layered feathers at the tail, better crest and neck feathers, hips moved up for better balance, and lots of new morphs and texture improvements.

Hopefully, we'll see some new Toucans entered in the contest :)

Please, can you include the free Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva) and the Golden Parrot (Guaruba guarouba) in the Parrots of the World or Pet Shop product?

I am asking this because of the new Daz Installer Manager.

I've been thinking about the new install manager... I've looked the install manager manifest code and could probably emulate it for my freebies (though I'm not sure you can run it independent of the DAZ website). I'm currently rewriting everyone of my products to work with all the latest changes in Studio and Poser for April's Audubon sale (so this would be the time include them, if I'm going to.)

I'll consider your request as I'm doing the changes and decided which route I want to take.

Planning of a Valentine render and possible entry stalled for want of a male Gadwall duck. :shut: Oh well, maybe next year.

    Lovely renders so far!

The Gadwall is one of my planned ducks (if I can ever get to that project lol)... I was hoping to have them by Audubon's birthday but it's looking more like just the Geese and loons will migrate from the drawing board by then.

I do have over 700 other birds available for Poser and Studio, I'm sure there's something else that can fit the bill. (sorry-- I couldn't resist)
My bird wiki shows all SBRM currently available.

another toucan file came in recently. Now I have two and have installed both. I assumed both a poser and studio one from what you said.

However, both files say Songbird Remix Toucan. One reports (in DIM) 24.1 megs the other 20.3.

I can find a Toucan.CR2 in My DAZ Library runtime and only baby toucans in Motherhood in Studio. Otherwise nada.

    I'm kinda confused now.

Edit: I also found pz2's and poses for toucans in My DAZ Library runtime.

Am I supposed to find something in the Studio side of my content outside of runtime as well?

I'm guessing you've downloaded the very latest version of Toucans (which was updated yesterday). It reflects big changes especially for the DAZ Studio side. After talking with DAZ, it has been decided to move all the DAZ Studio files to co-exist on the Poser Runtime. That means there will no longer be a Songbird ReMix section on the "Studio Format" side. In many ways, this will be easier for DAZ Studio users, since they no longer will have to jump between "Studio formats" and "Poser formats" libraries. I

In addition, all Poser files in the POSE section, will fall into a "Songbird Remix" Master folder and the "SBRM" prefix will be removed so now the "SBRM17 Toucans" folder when be "17 Toucans" and be found in "Pose / Songbird Remix" folders for both versions.

Of course, having gone through all the DS4.5 conversions, having redo it all again, isn't exactly going to be fun. But, in the end, it should make for an easier to use and update folder system.

I have about half the library done in update patch beta form that you can test drive in SongbirRemix.com's download section

::groan!:: Really had to be a male Gadwall duck for that, but thanks.

The render below is an entry in the Platinum Club's latest Inspirations contest; I'm probably not entering it in yours because the birds aren't prominent enough, but the render wouldn't be the same without them (crows from SRM Flock Formations -- I went back'n'forth between pigeons and crows, but finally decided that crows fit the mood better). DS4.5Pro render, postwork in GIMP. Larger version in my deviantART gallery here.

Actually, the change sounds good and I appreciate the work you've been putting into it. Now (or soon, anyway) I can keep the birds with all my other animals in a separate runtime. I'm currently doing everything through the new DIM and am not comfortable enough yet to change any files or installs it handles for me so I'll wait on the 'official' updates.

Looking forward to April and planning to pick up the few packages left to complete the collection.

DIM connects only to the Daz store. So, no other outside products will be available through it. I suppose Daz wants to insure what goes through it via their QA.

OK, got one cooking for the contest! :)

Yes, I'm aware of that, too... although in future versions, there's always a chance of more features being added. After thinking more about possibly including them in existing sets, I'll now less inclined. One of the reasons, I create freebies and post them on my website is to generate some traffic there. Apart from the obvious (seeing lots of Songbird Remix advertising), it also gives me a change to throw some environmental propaganda out in hopes some freebie pursuers will stop and read. Having them included in the sets or even on the DAZ website, defeats that purpose.

    ----

    okay...
we're 14 days away from the close of the contest.
It's time to get your entries in

Need more inspiration? Next week some new birds will be nesting in the store
