Taking the conversation in a different direction for a moment: does anyone know of a good tutorial for making Poser gloves? I can actually make real gloves more easily than I can Poser gloves.
HU - everybody is supposed to be living as though members for weekend, for free!
So the one freebie still free is here: http://www.daz3d.com/diner-food-2
The teens are best priced if you buy the bundle [2 figures for the price of 1]
and: http://www.daz3d.com/boots-for-genesis be sure you're signed in "in the store" ... sometimes it's reading at cost, sometimes free. It should be free for awhile yet AFAIK.
edit; i don't recall any glove tutorials atm but there are these gloves over at sharecg.com

2nd edit: For best prices on the teens go via the link

Yep this is a great deal for those of you that aren't already PC members. The genesis boots are the Monthly PC bonus freebie (we get one each month, except in October when we normally get one each week). In addition we get a weekly freebie, which for this week is the diner food. The weekly freebie normally comes out on Tuesdays.
We also get a coupon for $6.00 off on a single purchase each month (some restrictions apply). We get an extra 30% off on most non-PC Club items (some restrictions apply). And finally there are dozens of PC items that are available to PC members for $1.99 (There are many times during the year when even these items are on PC sales for up to 50% off the $1.99 price).
So take advantage and get some of those $1.99 items while you can.
I thought they represented humanity as we truly are quite convincing...
I agree with you and that is why I think Enterprise was the best show, The original series was a product of the sixties which was a time when we all thought we could change the world and somehow we would be different from our parents. Noble sentiments and aspirations do not unfortunately change human nature or undo thousands of years of evolution. Enterprise was a product of its time following on from the eighties and nineties when we again saw how human greed and vanity triumphed over common sense . Enterprise incorporated these themes while still showing our desire to build a better world. We all want a better world but we also want someone else to do all the hard work and build it . I loved TOS but it is oh so goody two shoes and I find Enterprise to be more realistic in its portrait of Humanity . Hopefully one day mankind will become a better species as per TOS and TNG but as a cynic I very much doubt it
Your best bet is probably to look for a hand modelling tutorial.

I assume you know how to transfer the rig from the base figure over into your new mesh.
Thanks for the links. I think I know how to transfer the rigging over; seems to me I can clone the rigging from the base figure.
This is for a long-term project; I imagine that I'll be breaking it down into several smaller learning projects. I might even become competent by the end. [wry smile]

I agree with you about how the crew and Humanity itself was presented- Archer being slightly biased against the Vulcans because of his father was an intresting touch. I'm talking about the 'Trek elements like technology, like Ferengi showing up centuries too early, the explaination for the movie style Klingons (I never understood why there couldn't simply be two different races- there are several different races of Humans. Why didn't Kirk ever encounter the movie verison before the movies? It's a big quadrant- The two were never in the same place at the same time.)

I like Trek in all of it's iterations, but TOS holds particular appeal for me exactly because it was so goody two shoes. For me it spoke to the hope and potential for mankind's destiny. I enjoyed the technology, but Trek is not about that. Trek is about the human condition. I also prefer any story where good triumphs over evil. Call me corny but I have always been that way, it's the same reason I like superheroes in the comics. I enjoyed ST: Enterprise, and was glad when Archer started to learn how too trust Vulcans, just as Kirk had to learn to trust Klingons after the death of his son, but I preferred the earlier Enterprise episodes. The later episodes where Archer arguably did what he needed to do, even when it was morally questionable, were not as "Trekky" to me.
I still love TOS the best. Mostly because the gals all wore skimpier outfits.
Were temporal influences already in effect in the pilot when they introduced the "Phase pistols"? And installed the phase cannons on the NX-01? That tech didn't exist till Kirk's time- in Pike's era they were still using "Hand lasers".
Of course. The Pilot takes place a few decades after the events of Star Trek: First Contact. Think about it. First contact before that movie was when the Vulcans came to investigate the first warp flight. Vulcans try to shelter their vassals until they are ready to explore. But First Contact wasn't with the Vulcans, it was with the Borg, a hostile alien race in the extreme. So when the Vulcans came along, humanity naturally bucked their procedures and became more militant than the original timeline, as clearly there are more dangerous influences to face out there...

But Cochrane never laid eyes on the Borg- only Lilly saw them. And the NG Crew made sure the Phoenix launched on time, so what was really changed that would bring that many alterations into existance? It's like I said about Abrams' project. He didn't seem to understand the difference between an altered timeline and an alternate reality. The NG crew kept the Borg off Earth- and even if Lilly tried to tell anyone, who in that time period's going to beleive her? there's no lasting proof. Except for re-igniting Cochrane's intrest in getting the warp drive program going, what's the real change?
For me, the essence of the stories are all that matters. I like TOS because it was mt first exposure to Science Fiction, STNG because it was a continuation and I was just coming into my teen years when it started. DS9 gave us a grittier view of the galaxy (much needed imo), and Voyager got back to the roots, bending the rules but maintaining the human spirit of exploration.
Enterprise, following First Contact, was a great series that as mentioned by others was a more accurate portrayal of humanity, and a much cooler, near-future level of tech. Plus it had Sam from Quantum Leap as the captain, double win!
i took Ptrope's Conference Room and put two of them side by side. I don't know what it should be, though. Any suggestions?
Lecture hall for new crew members? Asembly room for security details prior to beaming down ? racket ball court?
The Bowling Alley!!
Basketball/volleyball/hockey?
The brothel!
What? Why's everyone starin' at me like that?
Sincerely,
Bill
No special reason, but I guess everyone's wondering about the kind of ship you run! LOL!! :-)

I'd guess a Ferengi ship
I've decided to go with crew lounge.
Anyone know of any early, pre-production design sketches for the TOS Engineering section?
crew cafeteria, still working on lighting and textures
that looks awesome
you know timg it could aldo be a cargo store room too
Now for the ultimate goal..fill all those chairs with people eating and not crash....now you'll know you have the ultimate computer if it can handle it.
Where's a Cray when you need one. http://www.cray.com/Products/Computing/XC/Specifications.aspx check out the number of processors per system cabinet....now that would speed my renders up!

madd, i know just the drawing you are looking for
that image was made for the phase 2 project which morphed its way into the motion picture
there is some evidence that sugjests a partial set was built and some test footage was shot
Bluto, while those are intresting, they go in the wrong direction. I'm looking for the earliest TOS sketches. I have a daedalus-class ship coming up in book 9 and I wanted to use the earliest possiable concept sketches to build it's engine room.
... tippy toeing in ...
seems MediaFire is having some issues again and stuff wasn't downloading right from my acct.
so I tried to purchase an acct to see if that would fix issues ...
ha
that didn't work, their system is having problems accepting money apparently so ...
like I do when things on a website go wonky, have deleted all my content from MediaFire for the moment.
Later on when things are working again, or I've found a better place, I'll re-up some items.
... running like blazes now ...
