Yeah, you could barely see the phone in the .PNG I made. My laptop had trouble with this render since there were so many shiny and glowy things in it. It did seem to get better as time went on, but I don't want to risk it. I'm surprised that the colors are very close. I was just eyeballing them instead of coloring picking them. I was putting spotlights and point lights everywhere where it looked like there was a light source. (But again, this is AI. Those things go by colors rather than logic.)

The AI character for this pic had the least warped face, but she's got 3 fingers and I have no idea what's happening to her phone. I still need to write over the "Asian Letters." Unlike the other pic, I put random fictional company logos everywhere. (I feel like I need to mention DAZ Studio, so the words "DAZ Studio" could be learned by any random AI that decides to phagocytose this pic.) I think I will also put this grainy render through an "Anime filter" since the AI pic looks "painterly" and I want to mix filter results with my own handpainting.

By the way, I literally do not care if these AI edits get copied. I barely consider them properly mine, even though I have spent my precious time in editing them.

I will most likely redo the render. Although it is perfectly sized and the lighting is as close to accurate as can be, it doesn't erase well to blend into the AI pic. The problem is in the neck and chest area. I knew I shouldn't have left that part bare. (But I couldn't find a bodysuit or collar quickly enough.) I also have to move the hair from over the shoulder, to lying on top of the chest. I need to check what other AprilYSH hairs I have installed because I need bangs.

I've redone the render. I added the Reinoa Hair on top of the Fane Hair, and let it render for more time. The borrowed bangs frame the face better. Here is a comparison of the old render and the new render (which I erased part of) next to each other. (I reduced the opacity of the AI image, so you can see the remaining part of the render better.) I also made that point light on the chest glow up to 200% instead of the 100% it originally was.

The only thing I don't like about the Fane Hair is that it curls at the end, while the AI's hair did not. But the hair I used was the only one I have installed that was simlarly long as what the AI character had. The rest were too long. I plan on painting over the AI hair to make it whiter, so it can better match the DAZ hairs I've used. Still need to finish replacing the letters.

I think it is possible for me to recreate the AI characters with G8. I will do it some other time, since I've got a lot of AI pics saved to use as 2D art references and inspiration. Right now, the "challenge" is to combine my likeness character with these pics from this particular set of 4, and I have 2 more to go.

Edit Apr. 3, 2024: DAZ Galleries link [x]

I actually finished this edit yesterday but Thursdays are my busiest days. So here is the result. My regret here is that I used G8.1F, instead of G9 because I wanted to use Zelara 8's glowing eyes and White Priestess 8.1's pallid skin. I'm too used to G9's default Cornea Bulge, that I forgot that I needed to turn it on for G8.1F. So that's why the eyes look so flat and glassy. But since the AI character appeared to be a gynoid, I didn't feel like I should go back and re-render.

Not sure if I'll get around it, since Spring Break is almost over and I've got like two exams when college starts up again next week, but I feel like I should do other edits where I try to recreate the background with DS. Though this would most likely be renders against a mostly solid-colored backdrop. So if I used this pic as an example, I'd try to recreate how "below the waist" would look like.

Edit Apr. 3, 2024: I really wasn't expecting to see that AI would be allowed here, since so many people are so vocally agaist it. I'm pleased, since that means I can now share/upload my edits here too. I've reposted the ones I've made so far, since they were actually just 4 pics. XD

    --

I know this is my art thread, but I was not expecting to see a pic using base Victoria 4 in my online microbiology lecture.

(This video is discussing protozoans, specifically Naegleria fowleri, and this particular slide is showing a product for nasal rinsing.)

My professor called her a "computer-generated person."

Apparently, the Generation History from DAZ AI doesn't show me the past images I've done, so they are lost forever. Fortunately, I only saved this one cozy image with Michael 9. But since I don't "feel right" about just leaving AI images as is, I have no choice but to see if I can combine my own render of Michael 9 with the AI's version.

(This compulsion to edit AI pics is the reason I've been refraining from posting in AI images threads. But then again, using one's own natural, inborn CPU and GPU always takes off some of the work from the hardware.)

Since I do not do any work while waiting for the AI to whip up something from my prompts, I have the time and the energy to analyze and critque the result. (If one was to argue that AI images are "art," then AI art has a right to be critiqued.)

In this case, I don't like the facial expressions that AIs have given me. While the faces of their characters are greatly improved, they have a very soft, toned down expression. There's no optimism, passion, despair, or even mischievousness in the characters illustrated. If I say in the prompt I want someone to smile, all the images that get churned out all have the exact same smile. My previous M9 AI pic is a good example of this, as is my gynoid edit before it. Anyway, this is yet another reason I feel I'm correct in slaping my own renders onto the AI images.

I somehow did this edit faster than expected. The DAZ Galleries link [x]

Here they are side by side. The tone of the illustration is changed because of edited Michael's different expression.

(Should've made the mug a bit darker, but I just wanted to use the default ceramic shader.)

I have almost remade one of my OCs with G9, thanks to Wagner 9! Here is a comparison of a digitally-colorized sketch I did, and the G9/DAZ version. However, I am "missing" some components to make him more accurate:

    • Round eyes morph. The DAZ version, even with the toon bits, has the eyes not round enough. (But a large majority of my drawn characters have round eyes.)
    • The "Spock" eyebrows. My OC has straighter/flatter eyebrows that curve up a bit at the ends. None of the included G9 eyebrows fit this.
    • Short curly hair with a volume morph. Bonus points if there is a Titian red version included. (I colored it too dark, but it was too light before.) I found this cosplay hair at Renderhub and recolored it to my liking, but it is a prop hair. AprilYSH's Portia Hair comes close too and was what I used before. It just didn't have the random little whisps like the cosplay hair.
    • Adam's apple morph. I saw one in some package. One of the morphs to make his G9 preset was a feminine morph I transferred from G8F, so that reduced the size of his Adam's apple. So I need to dial it back up.

The eyes are probably the most important, since I plan to use this character preset for drawing than rendering.

I should probably do a comparison render with the previous G8.1M who used a mix of Ollie 8 and Torment 8.1, because this character is supposed to look like a "young jester." So he has a longish face with a long aquiline/Roman nose. I could never get the G8 version to look young like this G9 version.

One of these days I'll get around to rendering G8.1M and G9 Giacomo comparisons. Been dealing with Hurricane Beryl; no electricity for 2 days, then trying to clean up stuff at home. (We had just left it out on the back porch because pest control came in. Then, Beryl rained on it.) Anyway, as a de-stressor I like to either paint/color or photo-edit. Most of my photo-editing nowadays is on AI images. However, I decided to edit-in some older UV tattooed onto a G9 skin, in this case Michael 9's male skin.

The two characters I've done are Baldric for Landon 8 and SAV Lynn for M4/M5. Baldric was easy since the tattoos aren't on the seams, with the exception of the lion chest tattoo, which was originally in the "Torso" spot. SAV Lynn was hard because his chest tattoo went up to the neck and I couldn't simply move it and make it smaller to be on the torso, like I did with Baldric's lion. And since Lynn's head texture now has part of the neck tattoo, I decided to add in his smeary makeup too.

This screenshot is G9 in the shape of G8M. In my WIP image files where I keep my 3DCoat paintings, I had messed up and Baldric's arm tattoos got compressed. So that's why they're pixelated. But it doesn't matter here, since the seams are still smooth and it facilitates my saving. (If I leave the arms in the default gray color. The app will assume I painted the arms gray and then there will be "unnecessary bleeding.") I had seen some tutorial about baking skins with Blender using the UV geografts. I need to try it one of these days when I'm not busy in a way that requires me to randomly be AFK.

For SAV Lynn, I've partially transferred him up to the G3M/G8M skin before. (I used Sanjay 8 as the donor skin in this previous attempt.) However, I only did this tattoo and the eye makeup. The original skin doesn't look good with Iray/PBR because it has a lot of baked-in highlights and shadows. If you go to Renderosity and look up the character, you'll see that his skin is this weird beige/gray combo. Interestingly, M9's golden diffuse skin map is more or less a very accurate portrayal on this beige/gray color that SAV was intending to achieve. Including the lips, which are quite red in the M4 map, and are a warm rosy color on M9's map. So I consider M9's skin an excellent replacement for it, if you decide to move up Lynn to G9. (Sanjay's skin is a bit too dark, but it's passable.) Lynn's shape is also similar to Ashan 8, Lynn's face is a bit more gaunt and I think his nose is a bit more bulbous.

I had recently seen a tutorial that uses the UV geografts to bake in older skin mats in Blender. I need to try this one of these days. There's some old tattoos, like Ryuu for M5 (no longer available), that I want to use on newer models but they go around the neck. (I want to do a partial transfer too, just need to figure out which G9 skin looks closest to it. Though I like M9's skin, so might use that again.) But if that doesn't work, I will attempt to redraw the missing pieces using a combination of 3DCoat, Medibang Paint, and GIMP. I've actually gotten better at painting on my cellphone with Medibang Paint. The G9 Lynn tattoo I did previously was partially painted over because it was too small and blurred on a 4096 x 4096 map.

I'm tempted to do my own original tattoo, just need to think of a design or a theme I could use often. cheeky

These past couple of days, I've been trying to texture a random "sexy outfit" since the UV layout seemed easy enough to follow. I've decided to add premade textures instead of painting everything from scratch, and by "premade" I mean I've taken photos of fabric I have at home. In this example, the metallic bits from the buckle parts are actually from a bad photo of aluminum foil I placed on my toaster oven's baking pan. So yes, the metallic texture used here is real and "unique" because it wasn't sourced from any stock.

(If you want to use my terrible aluminum foil pic for your painting projects, go ahead.)

I have finished painting and coloring an alternate texture for powerage's Magdanela G9. All that is left is to test it out on DS (and also download the G3F version and Anagord textures to see if they're compatible with each other). My texturing attempt took me today and yesterday. I think any additional textures would be faster to create, since I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I'm doing.

Basically, I did the same thing for each clothing piece and the gun. First, I doodled an approximation of the color pattern on the model in 3DCoat.

Then, I properly colored/textured/drew everything on GIMP and kept going back and forth, until I was happy with it. My laptop isn't strong enough to completely paint everything with 3DCoat. However, I don't mind using GIMP and letting the CPU that is my brain do all the calculating. And for the sake of simplicity, I am only doing the diffuse maps.

I will eventually post the "update" but originally, this was supposed to be a Lady Dimitrescu themed texture for Magdanela G9. But I decided that instead of rotten/grungy it should be coffee-stained. So from coffee-stained it eventually just became coffee-themed. This custom texture is now called "Lady Decaf" and there's an irony that the gun is of a highly-caffinated coffee. The clothing texture still looks gritty but also like a Siamese/Himalayan cat.

I was wanting to do another "character inspired" texture. So I decided to do one based off of Disney's Maleficent (from the animated film) because she has a simpler color palette that's distinct. All I was doing here was bucket-fill coloring and taking it to GIMP to do the attempt at flame/faded legs. While I'm at it. I've included the "Lady Decaf" legs to go along with this "Party Crasher" legs, since I still had the 3DCoat WIP file. The "Party Crasher" top and arms will be mostly black and purple with the golden metal accents. I know that the gun will take effort, just need to think of a design for it.

If you have any other cosplay-inspired ideas or concepts, let me know. (The original gun has "Kiss or Shoot" on it. So I am trying to pick characters who have "options" like that. Lady Decaf has "Brew or Blast" and Party Crasher will have "Bless or Curse".) I actually want to release these, but only if they are useful to others. I'd feel bad for taking up server space if no one wants these except me. I'm trying to figure out which fan art characters are popular right now that meet these requirements and have distinct color palettes. Most characters I can think of right now do not have instantly recognizable colors. They have decals/logos or their unique look is a combination of their own physical appearance and outfits.

Edit: I do want to make a Harley Quinn version of these next. The problem is that the legs and arms have "mirrored" UVs. So the arms and legs cannot be different colored. Harley's design has half-red/half-black and then inverted on the opposite half. That's what makes it unique. But I can always try to do a symmetrical red/black with diamonds design, but it wouldn't really be the same. Harley's gun may say "Bonk!" or "Boom!"

I have recreated my OC, Biana, with G9. And this was one of the test renders I did. DAZ Galleries link [x]

This is the closest I feel I've gotten to getting her look as I want it. The G8F version always felt a bit inaccurate and it also heavily relied on her having textures with similar skin color. But this shape looks like her even without skin. I still gotta go back and do other DAZ stuff. Here, I was just side-tracked.

Ironically, one of the test renders was supposed to be an image I was meant to feed to an AI, so it could work from it as a base. But I liked the render, as is, that I decided to spare it from my AI fooling around. That one had nudity, but was of a similar theme as this one.

I wasn't expecting HH Scarlett for Genesis 9 to blend well with my DAZ self-insert's head shape. I dialed her in at 50% and then just widened the nose and the chin, but reduced the lips. (I also added Sonsy Toon eye widen shape and Calypso 9's irises. Then, of course too many body morphs.) My skin sometimes comes off yellowish like this too, so I now have an alternate texture to use when it comes to getting the skin tone looking good in lighting.

I use HH Belle a lot, in small amounts to take advantage of the bends. Now I have HH Scarlett to do the same.  All that is left is for a HH Muscle-man G9; a fututistic soldier who domesticates dinosaurs in his spare time and hangs out with the femme fatales. Though I do have MM3D Holden HD Shapes which are excellent for the guys. I just like characters sometimes. XD

I finally got around to editing my most favorite DAZ AI image of all time currently, which I've posted to the DAZ Galleries [x].

I messed up and have lost the original image DAZ AI gave me. But the faces were very warped, so it wasn't much of loss. It still would've been interesting to compare what AI gave me and my own meddling. XD I was mostly interested in making the image a landscape instead of a square and fixing the faces. (Also fixed M9 feminine's arms and hands.)

This is a new render I set up and rendered this afternoon. The only AI here is the background. DAZ Galleries link [x].

The character was entirely rendered in DS and then I used a watercolor and oil painting filter on him with GIMP. I don't think I'll ever be able to make an accurate Jeri with DS because I don't think his long voluminous hair is easy to model.  Besides, my favorite depictions of him are ones I drew on paper, since they're extremely accurate and I'm only limited by my own skill, unlike DS. But that doesn't matter since the DS version is what I use to accurately reference him for my 2D art.

If you're wondering what I used from HH Scarlett for him, it's just the skin because it looks good in the lighting. (Plus, I use InTheFlesh's "IDF Dev Kit for Genesis 9 - Volume 2," because it has torso UVs where it aligns the nipples correctly.) I still need to experiment with skins to get an accurate tone for him. He is meant to be "very white" but in a rosy, yet porcelain white kind of way. The render makes him look too yellowish than what I want, but it works for the composition.

I got this handsome freckled guy with DAZ AI, using Victoria 9 as a base, the other day. My prompt:

Beared brown haired man with blue eyes, wearing blue sweater, lying down in rustic bed, covered in a quilt, looking up at viewer with a smile, 8k, photorealistic, freckles, cottagecore, western aesthetic,

    Seed: 2713146705 (I think?)

Anyway, I wanted to recreate my own non-AI version with G9 to reuse in my projects. But then, I decided to compare him with the shape I am currently using for G9!Jeri (my OC) and they look similar-enough in shape. I just need to give Jeri V9's skin and find him less arched eyebrows.

I need to find the time to properly render freckled!Jeri. I have a scene set up.

However, I've been more inspired to do non-DS art lately. Since I'm almost done with one drawing, I decided to start another. And for the sake of relevance, I doodled a thumbnail for a pic I want to do of an OC on MS Paint. Then, I used NovelAI on the doodle to get results. As expected none of the AI pics looked him, but they gave me an idea of what kind of pose to do for him. So when I opened up DS, I shaped/posed G8.1M to look like my OC and threw random clothes that were similar on him. Should've used the Niko 8 Outfit but I haven't downloaded it yet to my SSD. Since this is a planned drawing on paper, the DS render doesn't have to be 100% accurate, only "close-enough." I'll download it later, since I plan on drawing this OC again someday.

Most of my drawings where I reference DS models are untextured/colorized viewport renders. As always, there's no motivation for me to do proper renders of my OCs because DAZ assets that match their physical appearances 90% don't exist to be purchased. As of this post, there is no swirly cinnamon roll skin markings product for G8M or G9. If I wanted to make a proper render in DAZ, I'd have to draw his markings in 3DCoat on my desired base of choice, then just edit the results in GIMP. (This is fun and I do plan to do it. I just need to draw him good, so I can have a reference.) Then his hoodie would have to be custom textured as well. I think I could get away with just adding a khaki pants fabric shader on some random baggy pants, like I did here.

To my surprise, I sketched the full body drawing of my OC under an hour. And while I'm inspired and motivated, I'm going to work on that instead. However, I didn't re-render or anything. So here is the render next to a crop of my drawing. I eyeball everything, so I don't think their faces will line up. (Especially the "3" mouth.)

I'm actually more ahead on my drawing, since I've been cleaning it up and painting over it to refine the lines. But since this is a DAZ Studio forum, I don't feel like it's "correct" for me to show further the progress on this drawing here. Also, it doesn't seem like it makes a difference which Genesis base I use as the original reference. I am always looking at photos of actual human beings to make sure the bends are more believable. The face morph used here was some random test one I made with FaceGen for G8M. The body is Dain, but when I was drawing, I pulled out my Made-To-Move Ken and referenced his leaner body instead. This is why the body doesn't quite match anymore.

I'm tempted to remake the face in G9. I know that Faber Inc's Nahuel for G9 would be a good base to start from. At least the face. I just need to check if I downloaded him or not.

I wasn't going to update DAZ Studio because I'm back to doing 2D art. But then, I wanted to try FilaToon. My hope was to make lineart to color (and edit) manually to where it's unclear if my art was from 3D models or hand-drawn. The bad news; it wasn't good for this use. The good news; it finally made Filament usable for me and easier to render pics. I do like the look, so I'll try to see if I can incorporate it more into my DS workflow.

Here is a quick self-portrait I did with it. After "practicing" with it for a bit.

This was the first test renders I did. At least for my own uses, I feel like the outline looks better when the color is changed from black to something close to the skin or hair color. Like on the characters, it should be a desaturated brown to match the skin, and the hair outline should match the hair color. (For the hair specifically, there is a "rim" color that is gray. That needs to be changed since it's the highlight color.)

Did a toon render using the custom Magdanela G9 textures I made. DAZ Galleries link [x].

For the sake of reference, I've decided to put the original render and the edited image side by side. So if you ever feel like you can't make eye-catching renders, you can always add in your own personal touches to make something better.

This was the original "mangled" AI image. I liked her hair and the floating starlight thing the most. I originally wanted to do this with a Chun Li styled outfit, but I also wanted to show off "original" stuff.

Your drawing skills are awesome! WOW! A very cute OC too!

Thanks. I still have this scene saved. Maybe I should try to remake it with the G9 toon one of these days. I will have to make him as a regular human though, since I don't own any bunny ears that big. But I don't think that matters much.

IKR? I need to find or make (possibly doodle them myself/no AI) other backgrounds. But I still have a bunch of AI pics saved to use. I've always liked trying to match the lighting and color palettes in my renders.

In order to cut back a bit on my AI edits, I'm going to try to post only the ones where I do more than the head and hands. (If you want to see all the stuff I do, at least to get inspiration or whatever. I'm posting all of my AI edits on DeviantArt and storing them in a specific gallery folder.) However, I just want to show you what I mean. Here, I just adjusted the colors and added text. Originally, I had intended to use the shoulders and legs too, but the original was passable.

I have figured out how to make the irises and pupils bigger. But I still can't figure out lighting, so I just rotated G9 toon until she had hard shadows that matched the AI image.
