Use this thread if you feel like pointing out a music video. The previous thread was great and was good to have around when the forum got quiet. We also got to hear stuff we might never otherwise have bothered listening to. Just as with visual art, the audible art (music) is every bit as diverse. Go ahead and post any music videos you like (keeping within the DAZ TOS).

Wow. thanx for this. I really love this kind of music!
Looking at the way it divides up, the idea might have been that someone writes the first part, then passes it onto the next person for them to add their part, and so on. Perhaps it's the result of some weird songwriting practice.

Here's one of my favourite Finnish bands called Indica (the name has nothing to do with illegal substances!! it was chosen randomly from some foreign language dictionary, and it should mean the colour blue or something). The video tells a touching fairytale/"urban fantasy" story, and the lyrics tell a completely different one yet as poignant:

I think that must be the first Finnish Goth-like band I've heard, not bad, I like the Gothic element they have. I'm into Gothic music and had never heard of Indica, this is a perfect example why I like threads like these.
Anyway, I requested to have this thread moved back to the Bryce forum where it originated, because the view/post ratio there was better than here. They refused, and I don't think the reason they gave was good enough. I'll not be contributing to the thread or these forums any further until they start taking members wishes into account as well as their own, and move the thread as requested.

Well yeah, the forums are a bit weird and illogical - I for one would like there to be a dedicated offtopic forum because the Commons is, well, not the perfect place for discussing music (and it has always struck me as odd that so few artists here ever discuss music!!)

I'm happy you liked Indica! Though they weren't really ever associated with any subvariety of the Gothic scene (that is, before the Nuclear Blast rebranding that took them down the trod and beaten path of softporn videos, English lyrics and Twilight premiers - that dreaded teenage-centered international marketing). One could say that this marketing could be a logical consequence for their debut video "Scarlett" which was rather erm flirty -

- but they more than made up for that ancient marketing misstep during the next six years. And then all their achievements - unique arrangements influenced by classical music, prog/jazz, punk, cabaret etc; thoughtful poetic lyrics and classy stage presence - basically went down the drain. Like it happens with each and every band that starts out singing in Finnish and then decides to go "international" and switch to English.
Actually just before the dreaded label change happened, Indica looked as if they were going to transition into a more oldschool rock'n'roll genre, as evidenced by these two singles - Valokeilojen vampyyri http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZaz36WpM4Q and a cover of Popeda's classic "Kersantti Karoliina" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_MpmZgsB60 - and I thought it would be a good move, after all, they're approaching their thirties and it gotta be weird dancing around in fantasy garb forever (though Candice Night might disagree, of course =D ) - but somehow the "vampire" in that song must have inspired everyone to take a U turn. Even though the vampire song was written when Jonsu (the band's lynchpin and songstress) was in her early teens LOL
...and here's also a band that you might or might not have heard of - Tiktak aka Tik n Tak (for the international market). They were sort of an exception to that "English = fail" route because they were originally marketed in both languages. But just take a look at how different the videos for basically the same song look for two different markets =D And FYI, these girls were in their midteens then. Yup that's a 14 year old singing.

I'm not that much into nu metal (a thrash/death metal fan here), but that movie did have its moments. I remember seeing either Terry Bozzio or Vinnie Colaiuta (or both?) in the drumming credits of the soundtrack sleeve that a friend of mine bought, and I thought, "Now this is sheer class!"
And there was Claudia Black in the actual movie, too! I keep meaning to make a morph of her likeness for my renders, but haven't yet had enough time to sit and perfect it...
As for my definition of Goth, here you go - Asrai, the Dutch underground cult band. Only the genuine giants like Siouxsie and the Banshees could be more oldschool!

Mustakettu85 The Commons is designed as the place to discuss everything including OT subjects. The specific app forums are designed to be used for questions which are specific to those apps. This is of course the theory, in practice a lot of people don't seem to realise that there is more than one forum, and post everything and anything there.
It is difficult to decide where a Music video thread does belong, because the Daz3D forums are designed for graphic arts, but it certainly doesn't belong in the app forums, and would get lost very quickly in the Commons.
The Art Studio did seem a good compromise, when the OP asked for it to be moved here.
Mustakettu85 you are in my neck of the wood music wise. Asrai is a must for me, Siouxsie and the Banshees I love! Like you I'm also more a Death Metal fan than not but I like many types of rock. Those are ALL good Links/Music from my point of view. I just tend more Heavy in my prefered style than the soft stuff.

Aww Jaderail, It's great to finally "meet" a heavier rock fan among 3D artists! =D I have a pretty eclectic taste right now actually (from early music and Finnish pop to various metal genres), but I grew up on "classic rock" (the 70s bands like Deep Purple etc), then discovered the 80s stuff like Doro/Warlock, W.A.S.P., Judas Priest and Testament, then the 90s underground stuff... and heavier stuff has helped me much through the years via its energy.
Funny, though, how we've always considered Alice in Chains to be "grunge" here in Russia =)
You are right even here they are/were called Grunge Metal, it all depends on your point of view I think. Like you I have a wide range of taste because I grew up with the 70's and 80's stuff. But I always leaned toward Metal. My very first Bought for myself album (remember those old things?) was Black Sabbath's Paranoid.

It's really not that big a deal, not having the thread moved. What is a big deal is that the decision on whether to allow it or not, had to be made by a group of moderators!
Considering I started the thread, considering I use the Bryce forum 99.9% of the time, considering the original thread was in the Bryce forum for over two years, considering it states quite clearly that OT posts are allowed on the Bryce forum, and considering I asked politely using the correct method. Considering all of that, I think the answer should have been more along the lines of "Yeah, sure, no problem!".

Hell no, I don't think of Indica as "Gothic" - lol
I just like that the band has a Gothic element to it (which is always a good thing in my opinion), making it a bit Goth-like. I liked the first one you posted of theirs better than the other two. The other band, Tik Tak, I thought had a more catchy track, but I didn't like the act on either version.
One track I did like was the Charon track, Little Angel. It's a bit clean to be what I'd call "Proper Goth", but it came closest and was the best of the tracks you posted so far (for my tastes I mean). Charon reminds me of Beyond the Void, one of my favourite Gothic bands, one I call "Proper Gothic". I wouldn't be surprised if you've never heard of Beyond the Void, because for some reason I cannot understand, they have to be the most underrated Goth band in existence. Beyond the Void produce "melodic" Goth music and I think it's totally unreal how little respect these guys get. I mean I can't read music and stuff like that, but due to mixing I understand how music is put together and have my own idea of what "Proper Goth" music is.
They're a German band (singing in English). I just tried to locate some of their tracks for you, but typically they're either not uploaded or have been taken down. I only found three that demonstrate the variation in style they use (but always melodic). I don't know what you or Jaderail will make of them, but I think this band are easy one of the best out there at what they do (please listen to them right through because they tend to build up). pumeco those are what I would call pure Goth. I was a semi-goth semi-punk for awhile and this band reminds me of the stuff played in the underground clubs. And the way they play was why I included Alice in Chains in Heavy Metal instead of grunge. Not enough style to it to really fit grunge IMHO. You did bring back some nice memories with that last band, Thank you.

Well I know why I haven't heard of them before - for a non-Finnish band, they're too new for me =) I only discover non-Finnish stuff of the last decade through people's recommendations. Theirs is a finely executed brand of classic goth rock, thanks for the tracks!
And I can't stress it enough that talent and skill have never been that important in show business! If you ask me, the better bands do tend to be those lesser known. Partly because A) bigger labels tend to sign simpler stuff because it's supposed to appeal to a wider crowd; B) those labels tend to call the shots, and too often their "artistic direction" is detrimental to the band.
Look at Villieläin - a band few people know about even in Finland, even though they were signed to a major label. A label that assigned extra songwriters to the band to turn their songs into a concept-ish album based on a "horror faery tale". The press did not know what to make of this - the music was too scary for kids, the lyrics they deemed too outlandish for adults... //Finland pays a lot of attention to lyrics// Bad reviews => bad promotion => bad sales => the band got kicked by that very label and effectively stopped making music together. Pity, they did some quite unique stuff.
This video is more about their rather outlandish visual identity than their music - it's one of their most readily accessible songs.

There should be "Uni" - a live snippet - in the "Related videos", check it out if you're into coloratura soprano voices... It's one of those songs that were rewritten for the album (it became Veren silta)
OK, and just in case anyone is in for some local spice... Olga Arefieva is the queen of Russian underground music, blending reggae, cabaret and what not =) And I think this song only has two chords at best, it's insaaaane =)
