First let me say I stay off facebook.
With that said I decided to try the current contest/raffle whatever that daz has going. If you are curious about what I'm talking about its near the bottom of this page.

You share a render on Daz's facebook and if win the most votes you get $100 store credit/gift card thing.
Anyway, how long is this going on for? I saw a winner picked last night, am I too late to join the party?

It says 'Winners chosen daily' on the original email
Did they mention for how many days though?
i posted a couple yesterday and have noticed that nothing new has posted since before i posted anything so yeah i am not sure if it is even working ...
I think promotions would would work better if there was more activity on the main FB page for DAZ. The last update was for Freak 5. While FB is an acquired taste for some, it's undeniably a great tool to promote business. But without consistent and constant administration, it's just sitting there.
agreed FB is an acquired taste, and promotions need updates and such from the sponsor.
...like larsmidnatt, not into the social media scene,.
Don't really care to risk my system to potential security compromises (considering there was another hack of FB recently) even for a 100$ GC.. Besides, I have set my security suite to block all social media sites.
Why not do this through the regular Daz3D website like it used to be?
Where are the galleries?
It's been eight and a half months now and we still do not have galleries here on the Daz3D website.
This is beginning to chafe my hide just a bit.
You are cheating the rest of us out of an opportunity to show our work and possibly get a little something in return for it.
I want the Daz3D I used to know to come back. >:-(
Not to mention the fact that votes by the public make it a popularity contest, as the ones who get the most votes are going to be the ones who have the most "friends".
Just my Personal opinion
Well, it is part of the goal to get people to look at the pages and hope that even some percentage (however small) will get enticed to try the products themselves. Can't be helped.
I have mixed feelings about facebook but I do think it's generally a good thing to generate more traffic for DAZ and to inspire artists to put their works out there more. Although there might be better ways to go about doing it and it would have helped if they provided more information.
I've been thinking it might have been a good idea to spread the word, post links to the galleries on relevant high traffic sites, etc. This could do two things... It could generate more traffic for DAZ and make the contest less of a popularity contest. Also people coming from relevant online communities would be more likely to try DAZ compared to random friends that may have little interest.
Facebook AIN'T Satan (though I think he does have a Facebook page), nor is it some kind of virus-infested cesspool as you make it sound. And it's certainly no more or less dangerous than opening your email, and pretty much the same rules to stay safe apply for the site as for any other site you visit. Facebook is the biggest fish so it gets the most attention. I'm not sure if using the Facebook page is the best way to do the contest, but if you are a business, it's sure as hell the smartest.
I'm not huge into Facebook, Twitter, or such either, but as a business man I'm not stupid enough to ignore them. If you don't like them, that's cool, but don't arbitrarily condemn them as if they are some evil, dangerous back alley in a bad part of town. The entire Internet is filthy with the very same dangers. Facebook just happens to be the place where the most people congregate.
I can understand that some people seem to like it and that it is useful for some businesses. That's obviously why they are having this promotion. Maybe this is how it will be from now on; some things here, some things there.
But with one friend hacked and another stalked on the site, it isn't for me - not even with a false identity. I can't really see the point of it.
I'm on the professional network thing but that has quickly become a pain. It seems to be for people who are obsessed with getting or changing work. Bizarre as well - last week I had an email "Do you know these people" - one was my husband...
Most people who are stalked or hacked aren't casual users of the website, although that certainly can happen too. And the only reason that doesn't happen here or on other forums is that there are far fewer people, the very same reason crime is worse in a large city than in a small, rural community. Facebook obviously has downsides, but the bad stuff just isn't so widespread or rampant as it seems, not compared to the total number of people using the site, anyway.
I tried to post an image in the Fantasy gallery the other day and it doesn't seem to work. I also tried to send a message on FB but never heard from anyone. It would be nice to enter these contests. $100 credit in the DAZ store can go a long way.
I think the contests need to be rethought. I think some of the groups have more obvious traffic than others... Daz Sci fi has only 350 likes, whereas Fantasy has 500+ Plus people have different levesl of skill, and more facebook friends and different tastes. I think if you post in one of the more popular groups your chance of getting more votes are higher.
My feeling is they should simply randomly award an entry. I don't think the popularity vote is a good way to award talent... Personally.
...and thus is a nice fat target for ID thieves who are in the biz of hacking personal information including account numbers, passwords, & such. Like I have mentioned, there have been hack attacks on FB before, one only a few months ago.
Though opinions may differ for some about MicroSquish, they themselves are not the malicious creators of viruses or malware, however because of their global presence, they tend to be a favourite target as they distribute so many upgrades and utilities which the majority of the world's users and businesses depend on. Same goes for Oracle, Adobe and other large software utility providers.
(...and which is why I have Auto Updates disabled)
It takes two weeks to delete a facebook account. I know this because I did it :)
I will never go back.
There are millions of "targets" out there, people, places, and things, both cyber world and real world. Avoiding them isn't always feasible, and the odds of actually being a victim are usually not nearly as high as they seem. Whatever floats your boat, however. My PC is well protected and I've rarely ever gotten viruses...at least not the cyber kind anyway.
As for Facebook, it's a matter of weighing the pluses and minuses which are different for each person/company.
Do you know what time/day you tried to post? I thought they were only manually approving each submission at 10am MST each day (but not weekends). Although I noticed a lot of duplicates posted so I don't know what's going on. I think we all would have appreciated more info.
i dont see any posts after thursday afternoon on any of the pages....... so yeah not sure what is going on with the contest. so yes more info would be great.
Y'all know that they screen all images before they go up on the page, so when you post, your image wouldn't appear right away, right?
They probably are just behind screening the images.
What I would like to know is how to send my pics to them. I'm a new Facebook user, but I don't see anything on the gallery pages. I like the what, but the how is what I want to know.
You joiin the group and when you've joined you go to the group page and attach your file like you would post a message.
There is a block on page for adding picture
...hope your AV has keylogger and worm protection like mine does.
Daz3D is a nobody, Rendo is a nobody, compared to the likes of MicroSquish, Adobe, FaceBook, Twit-ter and other more highly popular/visible sites that reach a lot more people.
...Daz needs to bring the galleries "back home" again.
C'mon, it's been nearly eight bleedin' months now. If Magento cannot do it right, then Magento is not the right software for the needs of this community.
I want the Daz3D I knew & loved back. Magento is not giving me that. Truthfully, based on what I have learned, I don't think Magento will ever be able to do that, period.
Face it, this was a bad decision which was not in the best interests of the customer base and community who pay the bills here.

A hardware and software firewall, built in virus/malware protection, plus NoScript and AdBlock Plus running in my browser. Plus I ran a security check using ShieldsUP! and my system passed. Should I wear a tinfoil hat too!?

That is the most important part.
...I've been burned once by a redirect virus that piggybacked on an MS auto download/install. In the end it sent me to a site that trashed the boot sector of the HD in my notebook causing me to lose about two years of 3D work I will never be able to recover.
...and that got through the firewall because MS was a "trusted site".
Yeah, I may be erring on the "over cautious", but not about to go through anything like that again thank you very much.
I read somewhere-- maybe in here, I don't recall-- that anything posted on Facebook becomes the property of Facebook, to do with as it pleases.
If that's true, I wouldn't post ANY pictures on Facebook, at all, ever.
Am I weird for looking at your attachment and seeing a sperm whale at the top of the image? :)
