You need to install using Install Manager. Drop the installers into the DIM download folder.
and the version you should use is either 4.11.0.383 or 4.12.0.86
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm so sorry for being so incredibly thick, but which files exactly ARE the installers? I put the whole folder into the DIM Downloads, and it didn't reckognize it; same with the ZIP. Which was weird I thought bcause all the other files in the download folder are ZIPs ... So is it just the .app file that needs to go in there? (Edit: Apparently not, as this didn't work either. Gosh I hate being so stupid ...)
As to the versions, I was told specifically that they have no installer of version 4.12.0.86 on file, as this was only a "minor" version. The one I have might actually be 4.11, I've gotten confused a little along the way. I can't check yet obviously because it's not installed yet.
By the way, if I do get DIM to install the previous version, how to I prevent it from overwriting the other one?
Thanks again, you're a life saver!
4.11.0.383 is the "last" of the 4.11 releases amd 4.12.0.86 is the last of the 4.12.0 releases and the last version where iray works with GPU on macOS.
It depends on what the files are that you got from DS.
DIM wants the IMxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.zip and the corresponding IMxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dsx file in the same download location.
Unfortunately I wasn't sent any file starting with IM at all, and no .dsx file either! What I got is basically a ZIP of the DAZ Studio program folder, and that's it. And again, I couldn't get version 4.12.0.86 because I was told that they don't have it. Hm, what am I to do now? Maybe I'm in contact with someone who doesn't know so much about this whole business? Is there any other place I could get the version I need, in an installable form? I'm completely lost here ...
It sounds like you have the package itself, and not the IMxxx zip. Totte should be able to advise you some more.
I would suggest unpacking the zip into an empty folder. If it only contains a subfolder, rename that "My DS" and drop it into the /Applications/DA 3D folder, otherwise, rename the wrapping folder the same and folow the same procedure.
Nope, no change with this method, still getting the error message when I try to start DS. Here's the report I'm given:

At least I realized now that I can see the version number in the report, and that it's 4.11. Other than that, I seem to getting nowhere ...
Sounds like the sub directories are missing or miss content, libs or Frameworks
I believe there are actually two timelines being indicated by Apple, and that some people may be conflating the two and thinking there is only one timeline. From Apple's own Website and statement:
"Apple plans to ship the first Mac with Apple silicon by the end of the year and complete the transition in about two years. Apple will continue to support and release new versions of macOS for Intel-based Macs for years to come, and has exciting new Intel-based Macs in development. The transition to Apple silicon represents the biggest leap ever for the Mac." https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/06/apple-announces-mac-transition-to-apple-silicon/
I think this means that although Apple will have all Macs on the silicon chips in about two years, nevertheless Apple intends to continue releasing Intel-based Macs for a time. Perhaps this is to allow apps that can't run on the silicon chips to be updated? Maybe it's to wait until the silicon chips are as fast as the Intel chips so that desktop and Pro Mac users won't be disappointed?
4.12.1.118, the latest version of DAZ Studio, has fixed the Command-S crash problem and the Command-R crash problem.
Which I think means that they will release new x86 based Pro machines until they release an "Apple Silicon" Pro, in about two years, or they will keep the x86 in parallel for the pro segment and use the ARM for the portable segment, which makes more sence really.
Yes I can see that. But what do I do now????
On the phone right now, shut down my systems as I have an electrician Incoming to fix something but will post some info when he is done.
Thank you Totte, please take your time! There's no hurry!
If you inside the DAZ Studio folder opens up the folder Framworks, you you see the libdzcore.dylib there?
Hi again, sorry, have to work in between ---- yes that file is in the folder! You mean in the DS version that won't start, right?
Is it possible to ask Customer Support for the IMxxxx files instead? I think that would be easier than trying to figure you things, if it's possible.
One thing though, what is the paths to where you installed the special DS version?
The path in the error looks weirdly wrong.
/Volumes/VOLUME/*/DAZStudio.app
That should be /Applications/DAZ 3D/<your name of the folder>/DAZStudio.app
I already mailed them and said that the IM files would be much better, haven't gotten a reply yet though. About the path, I thought it was weird too. It could be due somehow to my main DAZ library being installed on a volume indeed - but that shouldn't be bothering the main program installation as far as I can see. Especially since this version hasn't even been told those library paths yet. I put the program folder in the main DS folder in Applications, like you said. Argh, why is everything always so dang complicated ...
I'll wait for DAZ's answer concerning the IM files for now, okay? No need to keep pestering you here. Thanks very much again, will report back with progress a little later I hope!

"Why? Because you seem to be building stuff that is dependant on the lastest versions of Daz Studio, instead of being backward compatible with earlier versions, which is not happening for me (and all MAC users) because daz has stopped developing (like the newest version of 4.12) MAC versions of Studio since nVidia is no longer making mac drivers. So, it seems me and many others will not be able to profit from your good work in the future, unless you make backward compatible versions. If possible, please do so.
"Otherwise, the cost of remaining loyal to your products will mean a steep $1,000 plus investment into a windoz machine. I shutter at the thought."
Now, the above is a mistaken conjecture, isn't it? DAZ hasn't stopped developing Mac versions of Studio.
nVidia has stopped supporting macOS for GPU renders, and to utilize new nVidia functions, like fog and all stuff they have in the pipeline (only they will know), won't come to the mac if you use GPU and has to stick with 4.12.0.86. On the other hand, just read someone that had been testing the new Apple DTK ARM based machine and it was five times faster than the Core i5 in many iMacs, so CPU renders will be significant faster soon, not in the speed of 2000+ Cuda Cores, but with heavy many core CPUs it will be faster.
OK, great to know. Thanks, Totte. And when I buy a new Mac Pro, I'll get the highest CPU core I can afford. Not sure if I should wait until there's a new ARM based Mac Pro. Hope the 2013 late edition Mac Pro will hold up. And DAZ itself has not stopped development of DAZ Studio for the Mac, right?
Nope, they haven't stopped development, at least not of my knowledge anyway. I peronally like the 2012 MacPro over the 2013 (trashcan) as the 2013 has a tedency of getting overheaded when you render on it. I know know OWC sells (or at least did) 2012 MacPros with updated CPUs. My son replaced the Xeons in his 2012 with some used better ones he got on ebay, and that MacPro 2012 is really fast, but then he bought at Windowsbox to plays some games requires 2080RTX cards and he put a AMD Threadripper in it, smokes anyting from Intel really,
I think that the compatibility problem for apps will be solved with Rosetta2. Rosetta did the job with the switch from PPC to Intel. (At least, I think that's when Rosetta came into play.) Eventually, Apple will probably drop Rosetta2, as it did Rosetta.
Daz would not provide me with files different from the one you received (that’s all they sent me too), which means that any solution to this install problem will be one that Tote can or can’t help us with.
@Tote how should be proceed to try and successfully install 4.11 without being given a standalone installer or being able to use IM?
you were on the way to sluthing this but stopped mid sentence, so to speak.
The problem is that the error says DS could not load libdzcore.dylib.
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: @rpath/libdzcore.dylib
Referenced from: /Volumes/VOLUME/*/DAZStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/DAZStudio
Reason: image not found
The reason is "image not found", which make it looks like there is a either a setup mistake when it was installed, wrong file ownership, wrong paths or something else, or the Framework specs are bad.
I suggested to create a folder inside /Applications/DAZ 3D named "My DS" or something similar, put the whole install of 4.11 there the same way it looks in the "Studio 4"
folder, and try to run it fromthat folder inside the /Application folder tree and not from some other location, like "/Volumes/VOLUME/*/DAZStudio.app/" which looks broken to me.
Do this, and then see if it works.
Thanks. I’ll give that a try!
In Catalina, by the way, are all the usual folders there under users, such as ~, Documents, Shared? Would I be able to copy things over from those folders in Safari?
Copy in Safari?
How does one find that version? I've got 4.12.1.76 Beta installed, and it just ate 5 hours of work by crashing and deleting the previously saved file.
Sorry. Maybe I had too much Fourth of July "punch" yesterday. I meant 10.12.6 Sierra. May the 4th be with you.
