Well, I don't think DAZ intentionally is turning DS into a "windows only" program. Probably, DS will eventually catch up with what's going on with Apple and with Big Sur. It's probably best to wait before adopting either DS 4.14 or Big Sur.
I had to do this when I upgraded to MacOS X Catalina with Daz 4.12 as well, Its do to the way MacOS handles security and changes to permissions
@Platnumk: You did? I went from Sierra to Catalina in one jump. I erased the inner HD and applied Catalina. Then I used an external HD TimeMachine to install all my apps and files. Why did you have to go through all of these procedures?
It was the only way to get the CMS to work, When I upgraded from High Sierra to Catalina it screwed up all my user folder permissions and it was the only way to fix the problem
It still didn't work. I did as you said and reimported the metadata and I get the same picture frame and yeild sign at the bottom
I don't know what to do. I unistalled everything but the DIM in safe mode. Then went and deleted every place where I thought my CMS would be. Then installed Postgre and Daz Studio while still in safe mode. Then rebooted and then loaded the essential items in to Daz Studio. Open up Daz Studio and checked Smart objects and still have the picture frame with the cone at the bottom. Can someone help me I about to pull what little hair I have left out of my head. I hate to be doing the same thing over and over but I don't know what to do.
I tried everything that you have suggested so I'm going to add my log maybe you can figure out something I could try using that. And does the log has so many pages. This is a fresh install and it's like 300+ 81/2 by 11 pages long.
Are the files available if you go to the Content Library and look under Daz Studio formats/Poser Formats, as the case may be?
yes they are available just can't get metadata work
What happens if you install while Daz Studio is still running?
And have you filed a ticket for tech support?
Click on Smart Media icons it's not there.
On the question of whether apps will run when Apple releases its new chips and computers: This is from Apple's Support Discussions:
"No waiting is required. ANY well-behaved software that runs on Big Sur Intel runs on Big Sur Apple Silicon on DAY 1.
"This extremely clever trick is possible because Apple has already hosted such a transition before -- when they move TO Intel processors from the completely different PowerPC processors.
"The "trick" is to include a machine-language emulator, named Rosetta-2, and translate Intel instructions to Apple-silicon instructions on-the-fly. To maintain speed, the translated instructions are saved for as long as the App is still running, so it stays fast as it runs.
"When developers get around to re-compiling direct to Apple-silicon code, and shipping "universal binaries" that contain both and select at execution-time, their Apps will get even faster."
Of course, DAZ Studio does not yet run on Big Sur. But, I'm guessing that it will at some future date.
Inquire No I haven't
Does Daz provide a timeline for their support of the MacOS update? It would be a very good way for supporting their user base, even by having upfront information regarding their product. I was not informed by the company -not- to upgrade, so perhaps a kind email or note here would be very, very good. It is an important part of my workflow and I don't mind a week or two interuption, but if nothing is intended, it would be very curteous to let me know if I need to get my ass in gear to provide another solution than wait for the Daz update.
No, they don't supply a timeline. I think they do intend to keep up with the Mac OS and its changes, but there seems to be a lag.

Richard Hazeltine or Totte Why would I get this error message
2020-11-16 07:20:32.872 WARNING: /src/sdksource/cloud/dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(660): sync completed with errors, 768 items succeeded, 12 items failed.
2020-11-16 07:20:32.873 Metadata update failed: 768 items succeeded, 12 items failed.
There do seem to be some issues - if you scroll back through the log you should be able to deduce the SKUs of the bad items from the URLs reproting errors, I have a dozen (probably by coincidence unless our buying histories overlap) which I have reported to Daz.
May I ask what this Octane Render Kit (Free) is all about? It sounds a bit like you can use the Octane Render Engine within DAZ Studio. Also, on the page describing this, it states the following, which makes it seem even more like the Engine can be used within DS. I'm especailly interested because I read that Octane is going to use Apple's Metal in its Render Engine. Am I mistaken in any or all of this?
"This product requires the OctanerRender Plugin Free Version. You can get this for free by registering for an account at the link below."
It is already possible, on Windows, to use octane with DS. The kit offers tools for getting better conversions from Iray to octane, but you could do the same manually if desired. But Octane/DS isn't, as far as I know, possible on the Mac.
Octane is available for and works fine on Mac OS X according to OTOY.

Given the comments here
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/451486/daz-studio-macos-big-sur-compatibility
and another thread that I can't find at the moment which indicated that any plugin written for the current version of DAZ would need to be re-written for the Big Sur compatible version of DAZ I would not expect an Octane Plugin until...
Semi related, I did beta test Octane standalone w/Blender on 10.15 and it worked well.
So what do you think? Is it a good idea to get the free Octane Render Kit and sign up for Octane Render Prime for DAZ Studio? Or, is it better to wait?
And does anyone know if Octane has decided, for sure, to use Apple's Metal in its Engine?
I signed up for Octane Render Prime out of curiosity. The DAZ plug-in doesn't exist for mac, as far as I can see.
At this time there is no Plug-In for Octane for MacOS but there is a standalone version that is current availavle for free https://home.otoy.com/octane-x-pr1/
Please Note that you will need an iMac Pro or a Mac Pro to use Octane X as it only supports a small number of GPUs
I saw that article... I can't find the dowload link!
@Hylas: OK, thank you for checking.
Well, this page is mostly ads and their own promotional stuff. It mentioned Mac Pros 2019 and later. Does that mean it won't work on my 2013 late edition Mac Pro? But it said it was fully functional for Mac OS Catalina. I really get disgusted by this see-if-you-can-find-real-info-here--bet-you-can't stuff.
Yeah, they really make it difficult for you, don't they? If they wanted new users to sign up and try this, I think they'd try harder, don't you? Whose running their website anyway? Some dropout from a PR course?
