Ok, is this any better? XD I feel like I didn't do much. There's a bit of light slightly on her face, neck and arm now.
Ok, I tried...XD any suggestions on how I can make the lighting better?
I still prefer your first entry, who hit me with a deep impression.
Maybe I have a weakness for blonde girls. ;)
XD, thank you. I think I'll keep them both, my original as a first entry and this one as a second.
I'm not sure where I'd go from here... that fill light made a big difference and it's a lovely image as it stands. Is there any backstory that you might want to explore thematically? Maybe play with the mood a bit via your lighting colors?
By the way, what is the figure you are using? Love the personality of her facial features.
Much better with the forward tilt... that's exactly the effect on the sunglasses I was talking about. Just a hint of that dead-eyed stare. The finger interlacing still feels a bit off though and I'm not sure about the texture of the gloves... seems like it would carry more weight if they were black leather or something that would catch the light a bit more. The gloves are a major element of your composition, but they feel a bit flat. Great progression from your first post... looking good!
It's fun to see a bunch of new people joining in this month!
Hmm, I was thinking to add maybe a red or blue tint to some of my lights, so it would look like more of the city's lights are shining on her....hopefully I don't mess anythng up. Be right back as soon as I get the blue or red light to look decent.
Also, she is one of my own that I made recently, Thanks!
I learned a lot from Dreamlight videos Photoshoot
Nice. There is a lot of character in his face.
Thank you Kismet
Being inspired by Lorraines black and white render I thought I might try one.
Here we are with version d. Gendo is always wearing white dress gloves so all I did with mine is change the material settings to try and get something closer to that. Also I made some adjustments to his hands to try and get things closer to what I'm after.
"Shoot me from this side," she said. "I'm not pretty on the other side".
All work was done in Daz Studio. I just started working with Daz a month or so ago. I have never done 3D virtual modeling, but in a previous life I did stone carving. So much to learn, but I'm having fun. :D
Nice! The finger interlacing feels much more natural to me now. I'm still not sure about the glove texture, but I like this one much better than the previous. Feels like there was some lighting progression as well... looking good! I think I'd focus on the composition just a bit... the red light above his ear is a bit of a distraction... maybe shift your camera just a bit or narrow your depth of field to give a little foreground emphasis.
Great first shot! The lighting is looking really good... I think my focus would be on relaxing her pose just a bit. By "relaxing", I mean tweaking her neck and shoulder position parameters just a bit to give a more natural flow. Given the theme, I'd expect some stiffness, but she feels a bit mannequin-like.
Once you mentioned it, now all I can see is how blocky she is. Will work on her shoulder today but I have to learn how to freeze other body parts. I saw it in a vid, just need refind it. Do I get a dispensation because one of my favorite dumb 80's movies was 'Mannequin'?
Tell me "Megaforce" or "Battle Beyond the Stars" are also on that list and you've earned a lifetime of free adulation from me. A 6 month pass for "Damnation Alley" which was 1977, but ahead of its time in terms of 80s-style badness.
Also, I tend to adjust body parts by selecting them directly and using the universal manipulator to rotate the axis or using the numeric parameters sliders... either method tends to leave other parts alone.
[EDIT] Had to go digging for this one... couldn't remember where the setting to turn on the menus was. If you enable the "Pins Menu" in the tool settings for the manipulator (see upper left of screenshot), you can then select a body part, go to the little thumbtack menu on the manipulator, and choose "Pin Translation". Doing so will stop the flow of movement at the part you select. So, if you "Pin" the shoulder and then drag a finger, the movement will translate down the entire arm, but stop at the shoulder. Easy to use, but a bit hard to describe... hopefully that all made sense.
"Shoot me from this side," she said. "I'm not pretty on the other side".
I tilted and moved her shoulder forward a bit. Had alot of trouble with updates, I would move a little and a white speck or two would show up - always when the render was over 90% haha. She's not perfect but she's not a leggo person anymore either tho.
I like the changes you made to her pose. Did you change the camera slightly?
I really like the choice of red with blond stripes in her hair. Very striking.
A rim light on the left of the image, your character's right, would help her stand out from the background.
I love black and white images. You have some interesting shadows at work.
Is the no eyebrow a conscious choice?
As I have already mentioned I love black and white images. He has a great face.
One thing I would suggest is to change the colour or possibly texture of the jacket he is wearing. It is a really bright area near the bottom of the image which is distracting from that great face.
When I moved her shoulder I had to move the frame up a little bit. I honestly was wanting to cut a little from the bottom of the image anyway, so this gave me good excuse. :)
Thanks about liking the hair. I am real new so I'm in the "nobody has nice hair and only underwear for clothes stage". I get paid tomorrow and already have a big wishlist of hair and clothes... and morphs... and wings... and... haha.
Rim light? I have heard the word but no idea what it is for - another thing to Google to understand the use. :)
I am total noob so will tinker with that this weekend. I appreciate the input - I don't want to wash out the shadows on her right side tho - would it be effective to put it behind her? I will experiment - but will look it up first.
PS - I compute from a lazy-boy while looking at TV as monitor. If I sometimes have big writing, that's why.
From the left and a bit behind her to try to highlight the back of her hair and shoulders.
This video explains it simply but effectively:
I have decided to do another image. This time the subject is not looking directly at the camera. I would appreciate some feedback on the lighting. I used the light set which came with this free backdrop and raised the spot lights so that the girl's upper body is well lit as I wanted to highlighlight her eyes and tattoo.
I love that tattoo. Very cute.
How many lights came in the set? Are they at the default position other than being raised?
@KIsmet2012. There were three lights in the set. I think two of them were spotlights. I adjusted the position of the light in front of the girl and raised the one behind her.
Something I like to do with light sets is to group them. That way I can move the entire group ( mostly rotating to see what interesting shadows and highlights I can get ), or I can pick 1 light and adjust it within the group.
You do have some nice highlighting on her hair and arm but I am finding the spotlight effect on the wall behind her distracting. Perhaps try moving that spotlight back a bit so she is still highlighted but the light on the wall isn't quite to instense.
I would suggest saving as an alternate version, ie Portrait 2 or Portarit Alt ( whatever your file name is called ) so that you do not lose the work you have already put into this image. Sometimes after moving stuff around you cannot get it back to look exactly like the original.
Very cool - thank you!
Here we go with version e. I moved him to his right a bit after parenting the camera to him and also did some retexturing in the backgroung.
