So, you put in the new card, plugged your screen into the new video card, and the computer booted into windows using the new GTX 1050 ti?
But it won't let you install the drivers?
Did the Nvidia installer say something in an error window before closing?
Did you make sure to plug in the 6 pin power connector on the GTX 1050 ti?
I have the Latest Version of DS. Since I posted this I went to my computers (Dell) web page and loaded the latest drivers including the Bios this I never done since I bought it in 2013 and now the cards working properly with no problems YAY!!!
Thanks to everyone for their help
If your budgets are limited just remember that window 7 uses about 1gig to run monitors and more especially windows 10 uses a little more than 1gig to run monitors. So, if you keep your old card just install the new card just to render Iray so you can use all the memory on the card to render Iray and the old card just to run monitors. Oh, just so you know Video card manufactuers set up fan profiles for 3D gaming!! Consequently, you need to download MSI afterburner and turn fan on your Iray video cards to 100% so your card does not die from rendering Iray. Iray is real hard on video cards, more than 3D games.
Looking at your signature, it's no wonder you reccomend cranking up the GPU fans to 100% you are trying to keep 800w worth of GPUs cool all butted up next to each other blocking the airflow...
With a single GTX 10xx sereis card the stock fan profile is more than enough cooling. The GTX 1050 and 1050 ti are only 75w cards, even my GTX 1060 6GB is only a 120w card. Long duration renders on my machine only get the GPU core up to 70c and it holds there without getting anywhere near 100% fan speed. Even my laptop with a Quadro K5000M (100w card) only gets up to 73c while rendering.
@Silver Dolphin "If your budgets are limited just remember that window 7 uses about 1gig to run monitors "
That's definitely not true in my case. While rendering I will typically have Internet Explorer or Chrome running as well as Windows Explorer. My GPU will typically show 350MB before the card gets loaded for the render.
Nice to know that, thanks again for all your help and knowledge sharing @JamesJAB !
The amount of VRAM that Windows uses based on what I've found in my testing is directly linked to the screen resolution that you are running. As of Windows Vista and newer your windows are rendered as Direct 3D objects. This change is great for the end user experience... not so great for people trying to use their GPU for memory intensive tasks like IRAY.
A month or so ago I was trying to figure out whay my notebook always reported less VRAM usage than my Desktop. The thing I failed to take into account is that my Desktop is on a 4K TV screen while my laptop only has a 1080p screen.
Windows with no active programs uses at least on my macines :
3840x2160 = about 350MB
1920x1080 = about 150MB
1280x720 = about 90MB
Then all of your individual programs that need windows drawn will use larger abounts of VRAM on higher resolution screens.
Although my GeForce GTX 1050Ti seemes to be working correctly I read about power connecters but my card does'nt have any power connecters!
@Olderkat: If it doesn't have any power connectors, it doesn't need one. :-)
They are at the top of the card usually, like this: http://www.ozone3d.net/public/jegx/201011/gtx480_power_connectors.jpg
The 1050 ti is more or less an entry level gamer card, so it just consumes not enough power for the need of an extra power connector.
Good for your electricity bill. :-)
If it's about performance in Iray, the most vital point beside memory is the number of Cuda cores.
Here is an overview: https://www.geforce.com/hardware/compare-buy-gpus
Comparing cores vs. price makes sense when it's about max. rendering performance for the money.
To get an idea: A 1070 alone renders about 10 times faster than a 6 core i7-4930k CPU.
Lucky me, I got mine before the bitcoin/ethereum hype... ;-)
Kind regards, Eagle99
Hi, I want to buy an used PC with 2 x GTX Titan à 6 GB inside. Now my question: Did they work correctly for IRay of DAZ Studio 4.9? Thank you for your information. I saw the last days an thread with listing, which graphic cards ware working with DAZ Studio, but - sorry - I can't find this thread again.
Yes those cards will work with Iray, but the 6GB Titan cards are by today's standards, old, slow and power hungry. How much are you looking to spend on this used computer, and what are the rest of the specs? Those old GTX Titan cards should be about the same speed rendering as the current GTX 1060 6GB. (If they are the "GTX Titan Black" Then they should be a ltiile faster)
