Not a vore fan, but that IS funny. "Okay, guys, this week we're having the meeting inside of a gryphon. Please form an orderly queue in front of the beak."

Heheh sometimes the content of the pic is humorous enough to like ^_^

when i went to BOCES they called COBOL a programming language. all it was for was report writing. didn't know any better at the time. RPG was another report writer.

COBOL is a programming language, and is not just for reporting. Maybe that's all you learned. Entire systems were written in COBOL, big, high security, government systems. I had three semesters of COBOL when I went to BCC for my associates degree. For my final in the third semester, I had to write a complete system to specs given. I had screens with the "windowed" look, with shadows, and menus. COBOL is very wordy, though. And they just won't let it die. There is now Visual COBOL! I think a lot of government things are still run under COBOL. The only reason I can think of is that it would cost too much to have them totally rewritten, so they just maintain them. RPG and RPG II were just for reporting, it's in the name...Report Program Generator. I think COBOL stands for COmmon Business Operating Language. I'm not positive, though. It's been a while...I last touched COBOL in 1993.

What is not a great idea for running a business is Access. It's very unsecure, and is not a server based system. It is highly prone to data corruption because of being a file-based database rather than a server-based one. (That was the one problem with Visual FoxPro, it, too, was a file-based database.) And it's slow. In fact, they stole the Rushmore engine from their Visual FoxPro product and it was still slow.

And I don't think you'd recognize VB.NET. It's not your father's VB. C# is another story. I should have gone with that when I started to learn .NET, but historically, the xBase languages were very similar to VB, so I thought the transition would be smoother than it has been. But, as i said, VB has changed a lot.

Hmmmm...I wonder if this will post without a hassle? Yesterday I was having trouble posting a simple message.

Very nice! Colorful birds. Must be ice to see that in the wild, rather than in a cage as a pet.

    Hello everyone.

I did not get a chance to say Thank You for the well wishing and positive thoughts before, back when I was complaining about all the medical testing I was going through. THANK YOU!

I haven't been around the last few weeks because I'm trying to deal with the fact that my kidneys are failing. Trying hard to stay positive but I am not sure where, if anywhere, I am going from here.

Anyway, I consider you guys friends and I wanted to let you know I might not be around often and why, while I work this out. Still, though, this community puts a smile on my face, which I dearly need right now, and I'll try and keep participating.

    Wishing you all well!

    Sincerely,
    7thStone (Alan)

I'm sorry to hear that diagnosis. I have lived with ESRD for almost 5 years now. Listen to your Doctors and follow the diet as best you can, it's not easy but can be done. I had very bad numbers at the start of treatment but now have the best numbers they see because I listened, learned and did what I was told. Be Well. A fellow kidney patient.

    Thank you Jaderail.

Glad to hear you've got your ESRD under control. It is comforting to know there are others out there dealing with it successfully, even in this community.

It is looking like I will be put on peritoneal dialysis and the kidney doctor also wants to put me on a transplant waiting list. Changing my diet isn't that big of a deal to me because it is already restricted due to being a type I diabetic since I was eighteen. Even dealing with the actual care and limitations of the dialysis don't worry me that much. It is just one more thing to do, on top of the daily insulin injections and blood testing. I can deal with it. What is freaking me out is dealing with insurance and the costs for all this. There have been too many hard blows coming from too many different areas too quickly lately. I worry that I've become too fatalistic in a negative way. ...My apologies for venting a little.

    Thursday complaints!

    - It got cold darn and overcast today
    - My coffee got cold
    - My digestive system is fussy
    - Windows threading model blows goats
    - .NET 4.5 is a huge mess of functionality with crappy documentation
    - Some C# syntax gives me indigestion

That's about it for today. Back into multithreading hell for me. :blank:

Yeah, windows will interfere with thread priorities so they don't execute in the expected sequence, a workaround is set/reset flags so the threads in your code semaphore ready states to each other :)
