Does anyone know If the freebie for the Millenium Dog Sweater means there a new canine around the corner?

Good question.  I've been hoping for a new realistic dog.

Oh, and for the most part, you can NOT copyright a general idea or a title. Only the specific work itself.

Thank you. I was skimming this thread and I kept wanting to point out that you can't copyright ideas, only implementations of ideas and derivative works based on same. You can trademark looks but you have to defend those.

Anyhow, not that anybody cares at this point, but 14 years is too short and life+70 years is too long. And my opinion on buying glitched stuff arises from this: once I made a big purchase that included a gift card. Right after I did so, _everything_ 'glitched' down to 25% lower than what I paid for a few hours. I asked customer support if they'd honor those glitched prices on the products. They not only honored the product prices, they applied the refund to the gift card, too.

    That's pretty impressive!

I see humor was insufficient to distract. Therefore, seriously, if anyone would like to continue the off-topic debate on copyrights, product value versus product price, and so on, please do the rest of us the courtesy of starting a thread for that topic.

    Thank you.

Point taken.  The discussion was a valid one.  But, it did veer off a bit.  Hijacking the thread was not intentional. :)  Perhaps, an artist ethics thread is in order.

I wish the Hivewire Cat had stayed in the Daz store. And want more animals. I should have grabbed the Hivewire cat, but had no idea it would be gone so fast. Really would like a better dog and cat.

I'm curious how this works.  You bot the cat but it is gone now.  If you get a new computer a year from now, or for some reason you have the need to re-download that cat - will it be there at Daz for you to download?

Yes. You just won't get updates like you might if you get it at Hivewire or Rendo. We got to see that come the other way when DAZ bought out a lot of Mousso's characters that used to be at Rendo.

Confused, you can still get it at 2 other places.

I have bought a couple of things at Rendo, VWD, for example. But I prefer to stick with stuff at the Daz store. I like DIM, I like the customer support, usually decent quality control, customer support, and I just don't care for the Rendo store. Doesn't work the way my brain works. Surfed around it a few times. Did I mention that I like Daz's customer support? Have never bought anything from Hivewire, although I looked over there to see what they had for animals. Just prefer to stick to the main Daz site. Color me boring.

Almost didn't buy anything today (again) and dumped my cart. Then I reconsidered, and added 'Scene Optimizer", hoping it would help with a scene that caused Studio to freeze every time. But, five or six minutes after installing it I now have Studio happily rendering the scene. So, I can certainly recommend https://www.daz3d.com/scene-optimizer to any one struggling to render large scenes. Even if you buy nothing else.

Is that complicated to use? I can't tell if it's because it's 2:00 AM and I'm tired or I'm just not geeky enough but I don't even understand the product description...

I own it and it's very helpful. I also use the free reduced textures script. There are many options in Scene Optimizer and it sticks the reduced textures in their own folder so you don't have to worry about them. Both scripts are very handy. I don't find either hard to use.

Oh, and congrats on your new computer!

    Thanks! laugh

Just happened to me too.... 22.95 charged for a cart quoted at 8.26. Shopping at Daz's midnight is always sketchy. Start a ticket...

Since the first time it happened, I always take a screenshot of the cart before i pull the trigger.... I've been refunded quickly in the past for their mistakes, though it seems they try to put it in your account as credit unless you specificy otherwise.

I'd argue they're liable for any overdrafts... but I don't work there....

  • Just make sure when you put in the ticket, to say you want it charged back to your account and not as store credit. In this case that may be assumed, but better to make sure to say it up front.

  • I agree with Almighty.

It's important to always refresh the cart page if you've had it sitting. I've had countless time when I missed a sale because I forgot and my items languished in the cart before remembering to purchase. In general, always refresh the cart.

  • Is there any new "Holiday Free Item" today?

I restarted my computer at midnight Daz time.  My immediate problem is that I don't have $377 in my bank right now, so when Paypal processes the transaction it is going to fail and then cause fees.

I don't know where you are located, but you should be able to call PayPal and cancel the transaction, I think.

  • Explain you're putting in a ticket and are trying to avoid fees.

In that case, contact Paypal as well. Put in the trouble ticket with Customer Service. Then take a screenshot of the history page to give to Paypal. I don't know if that will help, but it certainly couldn't hurt. (And you may want to give a copy of everything to your bank, too!)

First of all I seriously doubt there is anywhere near 20,000 people buying 3D content here regularly.

Regarding some of this outlandish speculation (ironic considering not a day goes by you don't accuse others of speculating).. at any give time we know that the other site has a few thousand people logged into their forums, this is shown on their site, its not speculation. And this site is bigger than that site but probably has the same user base. So lets assume 3-5,000 forum members to be conservative. And we also know from previous disclosure on these forums, that forum membership makes up a very small fraction of actual customer base. So 20,000 customers is very likely, thats only 4 times the likely forum members.

They were speaking about this on another thread- apparently good launches peak at around 200-300 copies sold. Over 2 years that may double of tripple, but if the PA gets 50% of an already discounted price, and it takes a month to create, a lot of these PA's are barely making minimum wage. So even though there may very well be 20,000 customers, you as a PA will only attact a small percentage of them.

DAZ has actually about 2.000.000 registered customers though a good number are probably not active.

I'm curious how this works.  You bot the cat but it is gone now.  If you get a new computer a year from now, or for some reason you have the need to re-download that cat - will it be there at Daz for you to download?

There are instructions at Hivewire- I believe that you just E-mail them a screenshot of your download page from Daz so that you are in their data base. You will then get the updates  and support for your Hivewire cats. There have been updates for the Iray mats already, which are ready to download from their site.

On the Sale page, some of the Still New items are listed twice, and there is no free item today.  I also see nothing about the Grab Bag sale listed on the scoller...

EDIT; I had to scroll up on the Sale page to see the Grab bag..

Yes, HW is quite good for that kind of things. It was the same for items which moved there when the site was created, like Ken's birds.
