Yes. Seagulls (it took me a minute to realize that was a link...the caffeine is just hitting my bloodstream now).

Yes, I clicked through... :) That was pure Wendy, concentrated into weapons-grade form. It would be exactly what I'm after too -- but for the next ship at sea scene.

Thanks to everyone for their compliments and tweak suggestions to improve render time -- I will try to remember to never use skylight and/or indirect light with volumetric clouds ever again...

    great surf here today!

    Surf? What's that? :-P

North Texas is piteously devoid of anything close to being what I would call a "real" body of water. North Lake is little more than a puddle. The Garza-Little Elm Reservoir is a bit better but you still won't get surf on that...

I wonder when I'll get back Down Under?

Looks very good Garstor! I'm glad you got the light sphere to work!

Not much surf around here today- To cold! You could try skating though.

For the non-Fahrenheit crowd, the air temp is about -23º C with a windchill of around -36º C.

    Thank-you Wisconsin!

I don't envy your temperatures though - nice and mild here right now. I just walked a couple of miles to pick up my bike from the shop. I sure wouldn't be doing that in -23º and especially not in the truly unholy -36º. That's downright lethal... BRRRRR!!!

That's really good, Stu! Van Helsing lives! It's nicely stylized, posed and lit!

A couple of pictures. I'm trying to look on them as learning experiences. The main thing I learned is that I need to start modeling more, I need to play with the Carrara Hair stuff, and I need to learn to do clothes.

The first one, with the girl, is a re-imagining of one of my characters. I played with the Science Fiction Construction Set to build the "station" and I didn't re-texture anything. Which I should do. I didn't get the smoke or the fire right. :(

The second one is a scene from my main WIP. The Sergeant Major and a group of locals are sneaking through the swamp to ambush the enemy. I really liked the effect with the guns. I used the shaders and learned a lot. I also toyed with the trees and the upside-down root thing. But I loaded it up too much. I didn't put a displacement or bump on the ground and it's too flat. Learned a TON about lighting in Carrara, about shaders, and about the surface replicators. The CLOTHES, otoh, are a complete fail.

The darker patch lower left in the top picture is actually a patch of Wisconsin's wild cranberry shrubs, which you can see a little better by clicking on the image.

If you're going through the effort to create custom plants, you should show some of them off in a render or two! Most people think of two guys in hip waders standing in a sea of red berries pushing Ocean Spray® when they think of cranberries!

    @Headwax: Refreshingly creepy as always!

@Stu: That is an awesome caricature!

@Pencilneck: To simplify my process, sometimes I'll load up a fire primitive in it's own scene and tweak the heck out of it until I get what I want, then save it to my Objects Browser. The advantage is that the spot renders are that much faster if it's the only thing in the scene. I also change the the default colors right away. I can post something later if you want, but now I have to go to my play rehearsal.

For got about the berries until after I put up the image. Blueberries on the other side of the grove, chlorotic evergreens, swamp poplar, they're all custom plants... all of 'em. But you're right. When I'm done, I'll shoot the plants separately.

I experimented a bit with the fire and smoke. I think I've gotten it just about where I like it, at least for now.

I'll have to go back and re-do that picture.

    Stu,

Really liking your 3D Coat character's, I watched (yet again) recently Peter Cushing as Doctor Who in "Dr Who and the Dalek's" it also had Roy Castle in it, released in 1965 four years before I was born, cheesy but so cool.

Do you do all of your characters in 3D Coat, I'm assuming in Mr Cushing's case the fur and hair were done in Carrara, Iv'e had 3d coat for over a year and only started it up twice, going to knuckle down to learn it as soon as I'm back up to speed with Carrara.

Do you have any work flow tips your willing to share, saying that if you did a Tut (PDF or Video) I'd happily pay for it, a new product for Carrara in the Daz store would be good.:-)

    Pete

    Thanks petef!,
Ive had 3dcoat for over a year also....starting it up twice is v.poor value for money! If you go to my blog.( click on my signature below ) and scroll down a few pages I have done a sought of walk through. This was done before I started using 3dcoat.....so where ever it mentions Sculptris and Meshmixer just substitute 3dCoat in their place.

( and yes Wendy...no dollies for me! )

...and as much as I love Peter Cushing and Dr Who......combined they are terrible.......Daleks are also cool.......apart from those awful plasticky new ones from a couple of years ago! Merchandising exercise......my BBC insider told me...,,,,,shhh dont tell anyone.

    Love that amulet, Wendy.
My brother used to come back from the woods, where we grew up, with arrow heads he'd find in his adventures. This piece really reminds me of those days.

the amulet is probably not recognizable as the thingy Squall Leonhart wears around his neck in Final Fantasy.
I am not a gamer but the subject of this Carrara Genesis facegen video is.
this was the reason actually for making it but when I rendered using IBL from a HDRI background, I thought it looked a bit arty farty so posted it.
Was expecting much YouTube commenter panning but surprisingly THEY wish THEY could be a game anime character too!
I did not try to pretend to know anything about the generé, (I am blissfully ignorant) rather portay a friend cosplaying, so I think that helped.

Cheers Stu, found the Cowboy Tutorial and it looks good.

I hear you with the new style Daleks at the same time the logo changed also, It was such a blatant marketing stunt It spoiled Dr Who to me, somethings should be left alone.

Here's a cross over you could have Peter Cushing Killing the Vampire Daleks from Mars... :vampire: (see my last five words from previous paragraph LOL)
