With Studio 4.6 still having a (to me) unusable interface and forcing me to stay with Studio 3, I just want to say thanks for the Platinum Club Sneak Peek sale. It's one of the few ways I can still get content that works at a cheap price.

Did you try using the Darkside interface? It's very similar to what DS3 had.
Yes. I don't want to get into a whole discussion of 3 over 4 and vice-versa, but the the whole unnecessary multiple panes, incredibly limited workspace because of the ridiculously oversized side panels, and the friggin' ridiculous fact that every time the mouse is on anything it lights up like the surfaces tab in 3.0 makes it totally unusable for me. My eyes simply can't stand the constantly flashing colors on the screen.
So, 3.0 it is until something changes.

Almost everything is customizable, the layout the colors that flash turned off. Mine looks almost like my DS3A.
Parameters can be used in place of the various sub-panes (Lights, Cameras, Shaping etc.) - that's what I do. I use the Content Library pane, which is pretty close to the old Content pane, and ignore Smart Content. The highlighting can be turned off in Tool Settings. You don't have to use the Render Library - just click the Library button at the bottom of the render window and set it to Folder instead. Aside from actual new features my interface is not that different from DS3.
You two have interested me A lot. If you would both be so kind as to answer the following:
I turned off the smart content, leaving open only the Content library. That's the first thing I've seen that starts to look usable. Now, using the Darkside Theme, have you any idea how I get rid of that hideous orange highlight color? Or is it better to abandon that and use some other theme to make it appear more like DS3A?
Secondly, I looked in the Tools menu, and I see nothing to turn off the selection on the default Genesis character when I start Studio. Is there some way to get rid of the highlighting and have just the lines that show what's selected?
Thanks,
..Joe
EDIT_ And while I'm asking, let me add one more thing: Where are all my older scenes? For example: mine all exist in D:\DAZ\STUDIO\CONTENT\SCENES, (Which was the default in Studio .8) and nowhere can I find that in my Content Library. I added it to my Content Directory preferences, but I can't see where it is.
You can remove any panes you don't want, add any panes you do want, resize the side panels, collapse the side panels, and turn off the surface highlight easily. The interface can be laid out in all kins of different styles from simple to extremely complex [though it doesn't allow multiples of a tab on-screen at the same time, which makes me a bit sad].
If you already have DAZ/Studio/Content as a content folder, do NOT add Scenes as well.
Ditto. And mine is green (favorite color), and I've got all my dev tool buttons on the main toolbar instead of using the Posing/Building/Rendering tab setup. I didn't care for the default interface on release either.
I don't know anyone that really likes the default DS 4 UI. I was thrilled when Darkside became available. I removed a lot of the panes, and moved the panel tabs across the top so I could make the side panels narrower, which in turn gave me more room in the staging area. I also moved the icons on the two side toolbars to the top, and deleted those I knew I wouldn't use, or was used to accessing through menus in DS 3A.
Yes. Unless I did it wrong. Here's my Content preferences:
You'll want to add them to the active content set, not create new content sets.
If you mean the colour used to highlight items in the scene pane etc, Window>Style>Customise colors..., the one I think you mean is the Accent colour.
Is it possible to actually customize the different panes with the things we want to have there? I mean, I'm currently using darkside in combo with.. uhm.. City Limit workspace. And while that works really well for me, I would have loved to be able to choose which things to be on the two different sides. Like surface pane and so on. or more exact, basically re-arrange which panes are docked together and so on.
I did find something called customize in Windows - Workspace - Customize (F3) but it looked a tad bit too deep for me to dare to start moving around things in (if that was even possible)
I hope I make any sense with my question and explanation... *blushes*.. I always were bad at trying to explain things :)

ps, sorry if this had come up somewhere else, but I haven't managed to go through all the threads on the forum yet and I doubt I will be able to do that :)
You can close any of the visible panes, and load whichever ones you want.
Make sure you have the layout you are using now saved, so that you can always go back to it if necessary.
I would start by closing all of the open panes, till all you have is the Viewport. Go to Window > Tabs, and select which one you want to start with on the left, say Content Library. Move it over to the left, and it will dock. Next, do the same with the Scene pane, when it appears, grab it by the label (the word Scene), and drag it over next to the Content Library, and drop it.
Repeat as necessary, and use the right side as well, even the bottom as well for the Timleine and Animate 2 in the same fashion.
When you have it the way uyou want it, save it as a Layout to make sure you can always get it back again if it goes wrong.
Thank you, that was easier than I thought... I sort of expected something much much more complicated *blush* Now I have it mostly as I want, will need to tweak it for some time until I've worked it as I want it :)
For me, Using City Limits works Great. Here is how mine is set up. Normally my content library is on my second screen so I have a full monitor to view content, but I added it on the main screen here so you can see all the tabs I mainly use.
I used City Limits in combination with Darkside, and it did work good.. there were just small things I wanted to change around a bit to customise it for me, and thanks to Jimmy I now know how to do that :)
/edit - had to edit some typos *blush* I tend to forgot the spell check :)
/edit 2 - this is how my layout looks now, but knowing myself I will tweak it a little here and there to make it more customized to my needs and wants :)
I think this is a good idea posting the different interface layouts people are using. Some might get some good insight as to what is a good layout and what just complicates your workflow.
I prefer a much much much wider view space and keep everything separated in tabs on one side.
Yes I have a widescreen.
Like Zev0; I prefer the City Limits layout; although my sidebars are smaller. ;-)
I hate the tabs running vertically, it makes me have to tilt my head to read them.
It suits me, but the colours might not be to everyone's taste.
Well, I have to say that so far, this is starting me to get a little excited about Studio 4.6!
I have made the changes, and it's actually starting to look like a workable program. I think I might need more tweaks, but I'm going to play with it more today.
I would like to really thank everyone for the suggestions and tips. They've helped a lot!

 I think I'm the only one. I started using Studio 4 shortly after getting a new monitor which was much wider than I expected. So the usable space in the middle is larger than the usable space in DS3 on my old monitor. Also, my eyes are going and I find the default layout/colors in Studio 4 much easier to read. I still have to sort of stand up and lean over to read the menus though my most used items are on toolbars.
I have tried to craft mine as close to version 3 as possible. The custom options in version 4 with Darkside are as close as possible given that the sliders are slightly bigger:
This is my layout
Pretty much as I had it in DS3, only thing I can't change is to put my content library on top instead of the side.
And if somebody finds "What do I do" pages as annoying as I do, there is a thread with instructions how to get rid of them.
On old forums, so it is a bit slow to load
I'm also using City Limits with Darkside, as you can see in the screenshot below. Like Jimmy, I didn't like the tabs vertically on the side panels, so I moved them up to horizontally across the top. As I mentioned above, I also moved the side menus to the top and removed those icons I knew I wouldn't use, or where I was used to accessing the items through the menus. I've been using DS since version 2 came out, so I'm pretty set in my ways as far as how I access DS's features.
Here's my customized layout (in gray on the second one, for those who find the green too distracting). I like to have everything in one place when I'm working, and a lot of the buttons I use most are hotkeyed (Morph Loader Pro and Transfer Utility especially). Lots of tabs. I would share both the layout and color scheme with anyone interested, but I'm aware most people don't like things as cluttered as I do. ;)
(Edit: Just set up this laptop with a tangerine version when I updated to DS4.6. Apparently it's not that customized. It's basically City Limits + Darkside +Color Customization.)
There was a package of free DAZ Studio icons in different colors given out a while back. No matter how many times I upgrade I always switch back to the green one.
I don't like Rooms or Toolbars of icons, so I remove all of those, and put the panes I usually use all on the left. I like the tabs on the side -- it gives a little bit more vertical space for categories/sliders/etc.
