Cool image . I wonder about M4 morphs . For Toon character which mandatory morph I should have ?
So very very very late to the party, picked up Topaz Studio 2:
Good question. Off the top of my head, though, for females I would say "The Girl 4" is very useful. Beyond that, though, I really don't have an answer for you, but "ll take a look through my various content libraries and let you know what I find.
Really unique look and style especially the NPR treatment for environment image . It could be trick for BG render( which hard to get it right using or depend on Toon Shader only )
Unless that light, sketchy effect is done particularly well (think Mobius or, in a different direction, Al Williamson), I am typically not a fan. BUT, dang man, you NAILED it here! That light outline on the fire is downright perfect, and the scattering of the purples in the blues sky really add more emphasis to the blast. I like the subtle treatment of light on his shoulders. But I think we should be seeing more of that red edge on his foot and shin. The fire in the hair effect is PERFECT. In fact, that's similar to something I'm working on for my fantasy comic. The only thing I'm not getting out of this is a sense of place. I think they are flying, but her pose really could work just as well for standing. I think it all comes down to the placement of her left leg. If you go back and look at Iron Man or Green Lantern, or any of the flying/blasting superheroes, you'll notice that a good artist has the hero kind of tilted away from the blast, as if their flight power is centered in their legs and it's pushing against the thrust/backblast of the attack. Except for that sense of force lacking in her blast, this is almost perfect. I say "almost" because I do think you need a hint of yellow in her blast to justify the yellow explosion, but that's really a very minor point. This is really a spectacular blast and I'm VERY impressed with what you've got here. BTW: Love her expression and his body language! Excellent work, my friend!
For reference, this was the source image (which I used as a promo for my textured hair bundle):
(and yes, this isn't NPR, just providing as a comparison)
If I were going to do it again I'd somehow want to preserve the sparks flying around the character; it got wiped by I think the simplify. Hmm.
Also, agreed on note about her positioning; tilting back a bit with feet moving forward would make sense.
Barbatos Gundam
Comic pages from The Dynamic Universe comic series on ComiXology. I found this set of short stories/comics and added a bit of grit to some of them and released them as an ongoing collection.
The last image, untouched, was used by the Daz Store for their freebies section for a couple of weeks. That was a great day when I opened the store and saw me stuffs on there as a banner.
I use the Hiro Toon morph from the 3duniverse.
The artwo0rk is very good, of course. Nice style and consistent (which is always a challenge).
I'm not really clear on what you did, though. Did you create the renders and comic pages, or did you take someone else's work and convert Iray-style renders into NPR style?
Please elaborate. BTW: This is a pretty good story; just like the kind of "twist" stories that I used to read in Creepy, Eerie, Ghosts, etc. (and are now being created anew for the magazine, The Creeps).
Everybody still okay? This forum is awfully quiet, lately!
I'm working on a project that will hopefully end up here, but it may take awhile. I learned some new skills that I'm putting into it. It's also a heavily kitbashed project so I'm still experimenting. Stay tuned.
OK, 1st this is not the project I spoke of earlier. I'm still working on that.
Below is a quick IRAY render with no postwork, other than the white background. I would like some feedback if you please. Obviously, I can do a more toon version of this if I wanted. The male and female are both Sakura 8.
The questions are: What is the 1st thing that comes to mind when you see these characters? Are you turned off by the 3D nature of the render? Does the male character look like a dude? I also posted this in the Anime thread.
I like it, good start!
Looks a little like a cross between manga and western toon. The boy in particular reminds me a little bit of Dash from The Incredibles. The bodysuits remind me of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The boy does look male but he also looks very young to me, possibly prepubescent. It's a little awkward next to the girl and her adult chest.
If they are meant to have a pronounced age difference maybe make the girl a little taller than him.
I'm not bothered at all by the "3D-ness" of it all, in fact I think it's a really nice balance. Also with that toon-ish hair, I wonder how you achieved that?
I can make her chest smaller. The girls hair is an anime hair for Genesis. It's materials are toon in nature. The male hair is free hair that I picked up on Rendo. I used a DAZ IRAY toon shader on that. So would you read a comic with these guys?
Sidebar: Daz3d is giving away hundreds of dollars in V4/M4 stuff right now in the freebies section. So any of you Gene
I work at a hospital. When I'm off work, my brain is too fried to art.
I've been messing around with PW toon lately, I find it works best if I use simplified textures. Here's one I've been working on, I think it still needs some Photoshop, but it's good start.
I hope you stay healthy.
Yeah I`ll read . Nice Toon hair . We need more useable hair for Toon - Anime and NPR renders .
If I remember corectly you`d mentioned about manual inking using IPAD . Would you share to me how IPAD help you better than using any PC/MAC graphic software for manual inking ? I`m thinking about buy one next month
Thanks
I like what I'm seeing here. The style is okay... but I would need to see it in context. Are you doing a comic or an illustrated story (text with accompanying illustrations)? I would need to see it to decide then if the style works for the intended purpose.
I agree completely with Hylas: He looks young and she looks a lot more mature than him. Suggestions:
On the other hand, Changing his chest plate might not help and it might make him look too different from her. I'm not sure. But I do think it is worth looking at. Also, could you try to add a little more body to her hair? It actually looks a little flat.
The best think about the iPad is you can work untethered from a PC or MAC. I can sit on the couch or my bed and draw/ink/color. Also, it's just more fun for me. It brings me back to the days when I was a kid drawing/coloring on my bed or on the floor in front of the family TV. The iPad Pencil is just great. It's just like the real thing except you don't have the pencil/paper resistance thing going. I've read that the Microsoft Surface is better, but it's way more expensive to get everything you need. I inhereted my 12 inch iPad Pro from my Dad, so I only paid for the pencil. Really good drawing tablets are expensive too.
Now lets talk apps. If you have a MAC, you can get an APP that will let you use the iPad as a drawing tablet. I have a PC. :-( I did get an app that sort of lets me do the same thing, but it didn't work out so well and it requires an annual sub. Photoshop is free if you already have a subscription. There is a "full" version if it now, but I'm not impressed by Photoshop for iPad. It has a way to go. I baught Clip Paint Studio for the PC and I love it for doing comic work. There is an iPad version, but you have to pay a monthly sub which I refuse to do because I alreadt paid to a PC version. Pisses me off. If you want something free, try Medibang. Like Clip Paint Studio, It has a lot of tools built in for comics (there is a free PC version too). Problem is that a lot of the tutorials are in Japanese, but there are some English ones out there. That leads me to the best iPad painting tool on the market right now. For straight up inking, coloring/painting, you can't beat Procreate. It's a one time cost of $10, but it is truly awesome. There are tons of tutorials for it, free and pay. Do some research and you will find most people agree with me. If you have anymore questions, just let me know.
This is pretty cool!
You have great character designs. The characers are definitely memorable and discernable at a glance. I'm getting a kind of "modernized comic" vibe from them.
Let's talk about colors for a minute.
All in all, these are really cool. I'm very interested in seeing where you go with them.
I was thinking about doing some short mecha-related comic strips with these 2, to practice for my other graphic novel idea.
I already made her chest smaller. I guess I was basing her off a teen character on Macross Frontier that had a big chest too. I just finished watching it, so it's fresh in my head. I'm trying to compare this male version of Sakura 8 with Hiro 5 who I have used in the past for anime guys. I could make his chest white, yes. The problem with this guy is he is based off a female chracter, so I can't use any male morphs with him. I can make her hair wider.
Let me explain my motivation in a little more detail. Doing IRAY is easier than my usual NPR style. Don't get me wrong, I love the NPR style I've developed, but it's a little time consuming. It would be easier to do a short strip with IRAY to practice paneling, text bubles, story...etc. I still want an NPR look to it (many newly released anime have used 3D with different results). Also, if everyone hates the look, I feel I'll get less feedback on the paneling/text bubles/story and too much on the art style. That being said, I rarely read a comic if I hate the art style LOL!
I would agree with the black shoes getting lost. If you want them to stay black you can change the PW outline color to white and see how that works (for the shoes only).
Thanks for the input, I agree on the colors. Yeah, considering tht those are actually hooves not shoes, I'd say you're absolutely right about the black blending into the road.
I like the IRAY version of this. Anime is, especially mecha style, looks good in 3d. I'm not sure about changing the chest plate color to white, I think it would make the character to washed out. I'm thinking of Popeye in his original clothes vs the all white uniform he wore for a while in the forties.
I think he looks male enough, as is, but is it possible to do morph transfers from Genesis 8 male to Genesis 8 female?
I originally made his armor white and I felt it was washed out. I can make it black but that is boring. I don't know about the morph question.
Some anime done in 3D looks good and some doesn't Milage varies. I could tell the new Ultraman was 3D but after awhile, it didn't matter. With, Robotech the Shadow Chronicles, some parts looked great and others not so much. The space battles looked like bad 3D compared to the original anime. The Dragon Prince looked good, but Star Wars Resistance, not so much (Western Anime). The new Altered Carbon anime looked like a Tell Tales video game. It was ok though. I just finished watching Marcross Frontier and I can tell the alien enemies are 3D (well done), but I can't tell anywhere else. Quality matters since I grew up on old school anime. I liked Gundam00 and Iron Blooded Orphans. If they used 3D, it wasn't obvious. Anyway I digress.
Did you create the renders and comic pages, or did you take someone else's work and convert Iray-style renders into NPR style?
That's my full comic converted with two different filters (one line and one for the comics look) and such.
I plan on going fully in with several 'alternate to rendered' looks. Some of them are very expressive so I didn't want to do an action series with them, and when I showed some of the test shots, me edit-readers wanted an entire stories done in those styles.
So short stories is where I'll push into new directions.
I like it, but I struggle too with trying to put stylized characters in a world with realistic backgrounds, props and such.
I just loaded up on some old content and I really, really want to make a manga-esque title, but then EVERYTHING else would look normally proportioned.
That's what's holding that direction up. I tried distortion and camera effects, but that was all fail.
I have a vision, I just don't have a way to realize it yet.
Good point.
Made some changes. I used some random morphs to try and made the dude more manly. This is low-res-quick so don't judge the fuzzy too much.
