I got the dude vibe. It's clever to convert female to male since there are almost never matching male to female characters.
A quick render using VSS. No inking.
Hiro 5 vs Sasuke (Sakura 8); Sakura 8 vs Hitmoi
Hiro 5 and Hitomi don't have native IRAY Toon shaders. I applied some toon shaders to them and converted them to IRAY. Do you noticed a difference and if so is it a problem?
I really like H5 and Hitomi version than Sakura version .
I`m not sure why , but using early version of Genesis ( G1- G2 and maybe older Millenium versions) much more easy to me for getting character I wanted than using G8 version . The good thing from G8 for NPR - Toon - Storyboard -Comic creation ( still or animation) are expression and face rig which painful to work with older generations although Photoshop/postwork using Liquify tool help me to fix it .
@tdkrobert about IPAD I` found this article and amazing work from the artist in Affinity Designer Spotlight which I loved.
And I believe with combination between PW Toon - Postwork and manual inking , its possible to emulate those styles .
Did you ever use Affinity Designer in IPAD?
Not sure I quite get the question. The texture style of the figures look close enough for me that using them in the same scene would not bother me (although there is something softer about the textures on the blond guy's face). I do think the specularity (reflection strength) on the girls is a little too high, though. The boys have softer highlights and the girls )particularly their breasts) have very strong highlights with sharp edges. All in all, though, you are on the right track.
I'm already heavily invested in the Adobe tools (I use them professionally and, therefore, it's vital that I maintain my skills in those tools), but if not, the Affinity tools would be high on my list to learn as a replacement. I think they are already great and I foresee a LOT of potential in them.
This is a very cool, 80s style artwork. And yes, it would be easy to recreate these looks. The first image is actually the one that would take the most hand work to duplicate (those cheeks and that hair need a bunch of editing). But those others could easily be simulated by using stark lighting and judicious filter work. Thanks for sharing with us.
I believe using Poser much more manageable since easy to get lineart guide for manual inking right ? I have Affinity Desktop version and despite some lackness I`m enjoy about stroke profile - gradient and transparency tools . Their pixel persona just like Mini Photoshop which handy if we need raster brush on top of it
But I`m agree about Adobe apps.. there are some tools which I can`t live without it . At least for now
Hiro 5 and Hitomi have probably the best anime face morphs Daz3D has ever released.
Thanks for your imput. Those images are wonderful. I've never used Affinity Desingner. I'll check it out.
To have enough variety in characters, I'll probably use them all as long as they don't look to wierd together.
There are certainly more male Anime characters for G1 than G8.
Hence why I don't buy new figures anymore. PAs who make the pretty anime girls for G8 have no interest in maintaining parity, by releasing a male counterpart so I have no interest in giving them my money, because they obviously do not want it. And this late in G8's lifespan, I've got no interest in investing if they started. Because you just know Daz is gonna announce the next base figure any day now.
Thats understandable. As far as the PAs go, they make what makes them money. Anime and Eastern style mecha are a niche market. It frustrates the hell out of me, but I get it. One day, when I have more time, I'll learn ti create my own models.
Please don't get upset at the PAs for following the market. :/
(I mean, me, I just do whatever amuses me, but a lot of PAs need to pay bills)
Yeah I completly understand that. I'm actually upset at artists for not like what I like so the PA's will make them.
I mean, there are more discreet ways of directly telling a specific person not to buy your products.
More charcter concepts. These are all G1 models.
What shaders are you using with Iray, or are you just using whatever comes with the figures/accessories?
For the tan guy, I used and toon shader and converted it to IRAY. For the others, I used default materials and converted them to IRAY. The tan guy and the girl in the dress, I used H4 and A3 shapes for Genesis. The girl in the dress has Hitomi materials..
Here the Mecha project I metioned a few posts back. This is heavly kitbashed. Nor really looking for any feedback on the background. That happened organically and wasn't really planed. It was done in post-work, not in Daz.
Looks awesome! I recommend broadening the male's shoulders and shrinking his head down a little bit. And perhaps increase the size of his hands and feet a tad. Just a suggestion, I hope you're not offended. :)
I like the new armor colors. Much more vibrant.
SDF1 Water Landing
The biggest problem I'm having with my anime characters is dealing with their bigger heads. I shrunk the G1 characters to match the height of a normal model. I didn't have to do that with Sakura. I have only one helmet that will their heads and not look stupid. I haven't even tried to put them in a cockpit yet I think this is why the Final Fantasy type models are more popular.
I've only done the one or two "mech-style" illustrations, but I've had a big problem with the heads, too.
You've achieved a solid, clean style. The water seems to be just a little different in terms of detail, but I really like it, anyway. It has a really pleasing color and I like the white highlights/waves.
Y'know, you've got a really strong color concept going here. The only caution I throw your way is to be mindful of who is likely to appear in scenes together on a frequent basis. You don't want to stray into Power Rangers territory. Or do you?
I like what I'm seeing.
Voltron not Power Rangers. LOL! I haven't decided yet if I want them to be like Voltron Force or have a uniform look. Even Robotech had different colors for their main characters. I might go with the Final Fantasy look instead of this style. So many choices to make.
I've gotten some compliments on the water. I had to do this a couple of times to get a look I was happy with. I orginally wanted to do a Photo-Real image, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get the SDF1 to look like a real ship. It just looked like a toy model.
I posted this in the Anime thread but thought I'd post it here as well. :)
Sakura 8 with a few face morphs to soften up the features a little. The Sakura tree is beautiful, but my old machine had a hard time with it and it rendered super slowly. I think it's time for me to get a new machine soon. lol
Anyway, it's an Iray render. No postwork. Made with an NPR product I developed that I was going to release as a product, but sadly the latest version of Daz Studio dramatically changed the look of the shaders (again - it's happened twice now). So, unfortunately, I probably won't be able to release the NPR shaders and render settings as a product. I spent about a year developing it and had to remake it twice, due to different versions of DS being released and changing how the shaders look. Finally with the latest release changing the look of the shaders yet again, I think it's time to set it down and give up on the idea of releasing it as a product.
Nice work
