Thank you Valandar, love the new 'Sky Lord: Allies'

I'd love to see more Dieselpunk in the DAZ Store, that's a big gaping hole in my runtime that I'd love to fill

An intriguing layout. I'm sure I've seen something similar as an actual mid- to late-40s experimental prototype, except the front was at the other end... :cheese:

I actually had to look up "Dieselpunk". and here i thought Steampunk was bad enough, LOL. Reminds me of the designs in a game i used to love, Crimson Skies from MS

...Crimson Skies was originally published by FASA as a strategy boardgame which used aircraft based on actual prototypes from the 1930s.

This is a lovely model and I already have a number of ideas for it.

Grumman prototyped a twin-engine fighter in the late '30s that looked similar, but with the props and engines in front of the wing and the guns in the fuselage. It never saw production - but it did serve as the model for the planes used by the Blackhawks in the Quality/DC comic. See images here and here.

...ah, found one small flaw. There are only two Landing Gear struts that extend from under the engine nacelles without a third from the main fuselage to balance the craft when parked on the ground. (unless there is a hidden morph control somewhere).

This is actually my THIRD "Dieselpunk" creation. :D

    Before this, there were:

    Die Sturmspinne: http://www.daz3d.com/die-sturmspinne

    and

    The Quad Tank: http://www.daz3d.com/quad-tank

The Quad Tank was actually used in a HORRIBLY low quality movie starring Jimmy "JJ" Walker and John "Bo Duke" Schneider. :P

...question, I am unable to find the textures. There were two dpc installers on the Product Library page. Did I need to DL both (couldn't tell which one was for the Mac as neither were labelled "PC/Mac" in the listing)?

Still prefer to DL .exe installers when available since I don't use the DIM

I haven't downloaded and installed yet, but out of the two files not labeled with DIM, the .exe should be the PC installer and the .zip should be the Mac installer. (should be true for all product's installers.) You can't see which is which in the product library web page, but if you click on the download button, in the dialog box that asks you if you want to save the file or cancel, it shows the file extension (.exe or .zip) and then you can either proceed to download it if it's the one you want or cancel out if it isn't.
And if you meant texture templates rather than just textures, that is not included in your product library; click on the link to go to the product page and then click on the Resource Files tab (if there is one, like for this product) to find the texture templates installer.

...the actual textures not the templates.

In the Product Library the non DIM installers have no .exe or .zip in teh names: see SS below.

I checked the .dpc installer download to make sure it was the Windows exe one before I DL'd it. Searched the entire Poser runtime Poses folder as well as the Daz Content folder from top to bottom and could find nothing, whether under the item/product name or preceded by "mat/MAT", "Valandar, "Val_" etc.

The mats are in the Materials library.

...that's unusual in that from my experience over the years, textures for all Daz/Poser (.dpc/.ps) content also installed to the Daz/Content/Runtime/Poses folder. The Materials folder does not show in the Daz/Poser Runtime tree.

This looks possibly like another installer "mess up" similar to what I encountered with the Daz Iconic Body Shapes Bundle (which has since been corrected) based on the SS I posted above.

DS4 and Poser see the Materials library. DS3 and Carrara do not (unless that's changed in Carrara 8.5).

...as it was a .dpc, I installed it to the Studio3 runtime like I have been doing all along with all other Poser content. Never had an issue until now.

The movie with the Quad Tank is:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1698008/

You can see the Quad Tank in the trailer.

Looking forward to the Sky Lords: Axis.

It's not an issue. DS3 won't see the Materials library, so it won't see the mats. If DS4 is configured to see the Studio3 content folder, it WILL see the Materials library. There have been a few products with the DS mats in the Materials library and no mat poses in the Pose library.

...this is the first time I've ever encountered such. Everything up until now which is designated dpc or ps always included a Mat Pose component.

...so basically this is unusable in any version of Daz Studio prior to 4.x.

Unless you convert the .mc6's to .pz2's and put them in the Pose library, or tweak the textures yourself.

...sounds like that involves scripting which is out of my area of expertise.

Finally found the MATs after a bit of hunting. I just never install ,dpc content to the S4 library so it is accessible by Carrara and Poser 2012.

Bugger, the scene I had planned used LDP2/Azure Skies.

    1) Copy the SkyLords folder from Runtime\Libraries\Materials to Runtime\Libraries\Pose.

    2) Rename the .mc6 files to .pz2

For DS3 you're all done. For Carrara:

    3) Edit the .pz2 files in notepad

    4) Change line 6 from "mtlCollection" to "Figure" and save.

Love the model, but don't know, how to get the blur effect of the propellers. Is there a special morph dial or prop I didn't see? Thanks for your advice. I am using Poser on a Mac, if this info helps...

...I was wondering about that myself. Couldn't find one so I used the prop blur map from a freebie I have.

...odd as the promo pic has a prop blur.

You're not missing anything, I did my render in DAZ Studio with the motion blur option checked in the render settings and rotating the propeller blades using the animation timeline to determine the amount of blur.

I'm afraid I don't use Poser, but I'd imagine there's a similar option in it.

I usually do propeller blurbs as postwork in photoshop. However about a year ago I bought an item called the Steampunk Hydroplane, which came with a blurp prop to turn visible when needed. That one is not for sale anymore unfortunately, because it's awesome.

On another note, steampunk, cyberpunk, dieselpunk... How many punks are there really?

Hehe, punk is everywhere - it's more a (non-conformist) lifestyle than a movement. It's about how do you do/celebrate things in an unusual way.

Enjoy! And thanks for all your replies.

    ;-)

    - Teapunk
    - Tankpunk
    - Electricpunk
    - Footballpunk
    ... your choice...

Then you COULD say that everyone here is Renderpunk if they wanna be! :D

And I wish I knew how they did the prop blur, myself - motion blur? Did they just make a prop disc or something? Gah.

A simple tut of what I mentioned above.

If you have photoshop you can just make a layer for each propeller, making it perfectly circular and overlapping the propeller with the middle corresponding to the propeller's middle. Then use radial, spin blur and then use transparency of the new layers until you find it fitting. (How much transparency depends on light, clearness or air and colour/darkness of propeller etc)

    Hello, hello Renderpunks,

here is a "How To" from another great airplane modeler, which may help:

    http://www.colacola.se/howto_propblur.htm

Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to do it by my own.

    :-)
