OK, these are all really good entries, and even though it's great to see so many nice Carrara renders, it makes it hard to choose.

    FWIW, my votes are:

    My Grandfather's Elephant Topiary - #16 - head wax
    Koi's Pond - #5 - booksbydavid

As far as Honorable Mention, I've got a 3-way tie (in no particular order) and can't choose just one:

    Zen Garden - #7 - FractalDimensia
    Untitled - #9 - 3DAGE
    Autumn - #13 - Ooseven

Today's running vote so far is, as far as my poor old brain can figure.... (note the words "poor" and "old' :)

#14, "A Magic Forest" by Sockratease VOTES: 1

#3 "Breakfast time" Philemo VOTES: 1

    #9 "Untitled" - 3DAGE VOTES:1

#6 "Heres My Entry" - ooseven VOTES: 1

    # 16 "My Grandfather’s Elephant Topiary" - head wax VOTES: 4

    Honorable Mentions

    #7 "Zen Garden" - FractalDimensia VOTES:1

    #9 "Untitled" - 3DAGE VOTES:1

    #13 "Autumn" - Ooseven VOTES: 1

I think the quality of the work iand the difficulty of judging it is reflected by the range of votes!

Edited as I left out Dartanbeck's votes :(

When participating in art contests I'm a stickler for following rules. Especially when it comes to the theme.
The theme of this contest was to "produce a great render of a garden".
Using the preferred definition of "garden" from a variety of sources, I eliminated the entries that I felt did not depict an actual garden. (No matter how excellent they were.)

    Conformist.

    Eh...

To each their own. I always favor the most creative interpretation of the themes and guidelines put forth in rules. Even if they blatantly defy the intent of the person who wrote them.

Like when there was a contest where the theme was "Power" and the guidelines said to produce an image depicting Power however you wanted. I did an abstract image and said it demonstrated my Power to to interpret things however I saw fit!

I'm still unsure who to vote for, but am leaning heavily toward voting for myself - just because one of my renders is the only one with a Cow in it.

You should vote for me then, as I'm probably the only one in this contest that actually owns a real live cow. Okay, the term is technically springing heifer, but once she has her calf (any day now) she'll be considered a grown-up cow!

Whew ! What a variety of "garden" interpretations !

So what I did was first consider the "plants or trees" then how they were presented in the scene and it's overall look and finally "imagination/creativity'. A bit of bias added if it was all Carrara work.

My Vote is.( no influence by the voting so far)

    1) Entry 7 FractalDimensia " Zen Garden"
    2) Entry 18 Headwax "The Garden of Face Trees”
    3) Entry 8 EvilProducer "Mossy Pool"

    Honourable mention

    No 14 Socratese " A Magic garden"
For the creative imagination of glass plants !

I'm so impressed by the art...it's amazing what you have done with Carrara...hope to get to that level....yeah right when I'm 102 !!

"Untitled" - #9 3dage (love the natural feel to the path scene)

"Koi Pond" - #5 booksbydavid (great mix of natural & fantasy)

    Honorable Mention

"Zens Garden" - #7 FractalDimensia (fantastic details)

All the entries are so inspiring to look at especially for a newbie and for the notes and info on their design.

Okay, I must be *REALLY* strange because after 4 days deliberating, my choices are considerably different from most of those so far. Maybe I’ll be a new trend setter. ;)

I see now I need to work on my abstract art skills!

    My two votes:
#10 (Unnamed)? – Varsel: The “hedge-ieness” of the bushes near the bench are great. ; I like the way the water “pours” in the fountain [nice colors by the way to set off the water]; generally, a good “French garden” setting IMHO.

#13 “Autumn” – Ooseven: I love the abstract feel of this scene, and the use of colors give it a “water color” feel.

    Honorable mention:
#5 “Koi’s Pond” – BooksByDavid: I like the mix of realism and abstract art; excellent flowers in the foreground; great bushes with lots of color.

    I'm voting for:

1st)Philemos #3 entry. Love the shape of the plant and the shaders. I know it's not exactly a "garden" but I look at as a macro-closeup of a flower in the garden.

2nd) Wendy's #12 entry. I'm not a huge fan of the wide angle lens, but the work that went into the plants and the layout stands out.

    Runner up is tough.

I'm going with diomede64's Cornfield (#4) for runner up. It would have been my #1 if the corn was close enough to see the detail that was put into it. I think it could have been framed so that the corn was closer and the Yellow Brick Road would still be visible. I can practically see the Scarecrow stumbling out of it. Good job!

Ooseven, I would have given a vote to you, but I didn't want to seem self serving! ;-) Your scene looks really nice. Love the addition of the bridge!

Thank you to everyone that has voted so far:

It's getting very exciting. Booksbydavid has an early lead, but crowd favourite, Wendy loves cats is making a suprising
dash down the inside leg of the field, FractalDimensia is looking over his shoulder, as the shadow of Socrates cow, making steady gains from the middle of the field, while several unamed entries lunge for the winners post in an exciting jpg to jpg finish ...

    Ahem, sorry about that....

Today’s running vote so far is, as far as my poor old brain can figure….

Hmmm... I know Booksbydavid has more than 1 vote, since d3an and I both have votes for him. Perhaps my quote around the vote screws things up? Nonetheless... I love your intro! You are certainly a great moderator - are you going to host the next one too?

    2nd-# 16 “My Grandfather’s Elephant Topiary” - head wax

    Honorable Mention-#9 “Untitled” - 3DAGE

Now, I'm going to have to go and recover from all this high stress decision making.

thanks :) I always wanted to be a race caller but sanity prevailed , that and the fact I know nothing about horses, plus I have a squeaky voice and cannot use binoculars ....

if I was a race caller it would be more like the big brown horse with the white spot on its nose and all the dribble running down the left side of its mouth being ridden by the short guy in glasses who is wearing the lilac and yellow checked number one size too small and who needs to go to the toilet judging by the look on his face and the way he is squeezing his legs togethert

me host the next one? :) no heaven's forbid!
that honour falls down to the winner of this one!

Now who'd vote for themselves, I ask you :)
It's not like we are all using Blender or anything....

(just kidding about Blender people voting for themselves)

    Hi,

    My votes are :

#1 : ENTRY Number 16: “My Grandfather’s Elephant Topiary” by Head Wax
I've never had any doubt for my first vote. It was love at first sight, if I dare say :-)

#2 : Entry 18: “The Garden of Face Trees” also by Head Wax
I love the mood, the colour theme and the texturing.

Andrew, I definitely like your artistic sense.

My nominations for honorable mention :

    Entry no. 10 by Varsel.
It would have been a winner if it weren't so perfect, so clean :-).

    Entry no. 9 by 3DAGE
I love the peace that emerge from that picture.

    Yeah... this is not easy...

First choice is entry no. 3 Breakfast time by Philemo
Second choice is entry no. 13 Autumn by 0oseven

And for Sockratease "Heart Of The Magic Forest"
the simplicity and still so complicated picture, I would give Honorable Mentioning

I know that there were no rules against postwork, but at the end I based my votes on what could be done natively in Carrara, to show off it's powers and potensial.

A thousand Thanks to head wax for hosting this contest.
I almost pity the one that has to live up to the example that you have set.

I procrasti-dallied too long as well.

Couldn't bring myself to not vote for me - so abstained.

It would have been easier if others had included Cows in their renders, but nobody else thought that was critical.

I have no idea how anybody can make an image without a cow in it. It takes a massive effort of will to keep cows out of the very few images I make where they are kept at bay (barn?).

Next contest should have a Cow Theme - that would REALLY show what Cowrarra can do!!
