If you shouldconsider doing another addon for this, something that gives you different book sizes would be really nice.
Say, Magazine style (thin/tapered spine), something wider for a coffee table/scrapbook (square or a little past square), and along these lines a CD case size (thinking about an insert book with a few pages). You get the idea...
Also, if you were so inclined, an animation that puts the books 'flat' on the Z axis would be sweet (thinking of putting a table prop with the top of the table at '0' height so that the book would 'land' on it), and maybe an angled one for a podium/lectern (I see 15 degrees angle mentioned in a few places for lecterns). Of course, a script that allowed you to adjust the 'landing angle' and maybe even landing height would be even more awesome, but that might be a lot of work...
I have some users that have custom structure of their content library in order to help them organize the products in a very convinient way. They don't have /Props/MikeD/Fairytale Book/... structure but use another methology. The scripts won't work for them as the scripts needs some specific files in some folders. I have created some update version of the main scripts for them so they can use them with some restrictions. You can find these updated scripts in the attachment files.
! You don't have to use them if you use the original Content Library file structure. !
Thanks a lot nowefg for point this out and helps by feeding back!
I can't get the scripts to work on this one for some reason. I don't own photoshop, so that may be the problem for the texturing scripts, but the problem with the page turn script surprised me. I also can't find a node/bone or morph to turn the pages manually (as distinct from opening to the middle of the book). Other than that, seems like a nice product.
the DS log is unhelpful, it just says "script failed to load." I have my content library in a somewhat different place from the norm but the Fairytale Book is under Props/MikeD/FairytaleBook within that library.
Hi Odaa,
No you haven't to own Photoshop in order to run the scripts.
In order to turn the pages manually, select a folding page from the scene tab and check Parameters / General / Actor tab for the turn page property!
I have send you in your message inbox about the scripts!
Thanks
I caved in and bought the bundle on the last day of March Madness and I must say I am very satisfied with it. Just the single pages and the map offer a lot of functionality, and the multiple cover textures are fantastic. The only thing I would have liked to see (and would pay for in an expansion) that isn't there is a book that you can use for the starting or ending pages (a classic for beginning or ending a visual narrative), and possibly a few in-between states rather than the default position at the middle of the book. Also, plus one for a set of morphs for the book to make it thinner or a soft-cover, or whatever suits the scene. Fantastic product, Mike, I am really grateful for it.
First of all I would like to thank you all for your support and your nice comments.
I would like to make a clarification about the scripts. They are encrypted under DAZ Studio version 4.10.0.123, so they need the same or a higher version to work (currently this is the newer version). Try update your DAZ Studio to the newest version if the scripts 'could not load'!
I also thank you for your ideas about different versions or addons of the Book to other forms, but this will need a new design, rigging and morphs, which means a total new project, that isn 't at my current plans! I maybe make something like this in the future.
Got everything working with Mike's help! It's a lot of fun to play with
Can the inside covers be changed, where it starts with Once upon a time... and ends with The End?
Yes, you can change the textures in Photoshop or any other image editor. The .psd templates files for the cover, the inner pages (where are the 'Once upon a time' and 'The End') and the rotation pages are in the Runtime/MikeD/FairytaleBook folder or you can access them directly by the script.
Thank you, thought I checked that but obviously not. And this is an absolutely wonderful prop, great work on it, and thank you for making it!
Extra note, I would also love to see additional add-ons for thinner/paperback books and magazines, but I have read the previous discussion on that and understand the mechanics of the fairytale book do not accomodate such modifications.
Thank you very much for your comment ... indeed another book with thinner book or magazine requires redesign and totaly new rigging ....
I've had some success, and a little bit of failure, setting innner pages and folding pages. I'm trying to get a custom cover with the page appearance of the MD Book Leather Old (rendering with 3DL), and I've dug through the various files included, found ones for Old, used the materials and settings, tried strictly through the script, but I can't get the same as that book if I use the script for anything. My pages always come out a bit lighter.
Can you tell me which files that book uses for pages, or maybe you have an idea what I'm doing wrong.
The left one seems to be IRay .... Use the "Old" textures for the inner pages adding a color like R: 201, G:174, B:136 to the Diffuse Color property to get the same in 3DL (may need some adjustments ... I got the same result in my main screen but the outcome seems different when I posted it to the forum, so play a little with the color correction)... The same if you need any folding pages.
Right on, thank you. That definitely had an effect, now I just need to bring it back a bit. The first one I posted was definitely 3DL, though my settings might not have been the same (sampling or gamma probably). I use a Mac, a few years old, so for me Iray is next to useless. And thank you for making 3DL products, btw. Sometimes I will customize surfaces for Iray models I really want to use, but mostly if the creator only includes Iray mats I skip it altogether.
[Edit: will try your numbers again - I not only applied it the way you showed, I also applied it to all of the pages independently - did that and realized it needs to be applied to all - just playing around with adjustments now]
Not quite the same as the original, but I'm pretty happy with this result - used 255 218 173
