So the current beta (DAZ Studio Pro BETA 4.6.0.81) is ONLY going to be available using DIM? Seriously?? I've been updating my content library again, and I've been finding lots of content that is only available via DIM -- I ASSUMED it was just a[nother] glitch in the store software; now I'm wondering if it isn't something else. Listen up, DAZ: if you're trying to force your customers into using DIM, I will drop you like a bad habit. I've been giving you a second chance recently, but something like this can change that pretty damn quick. You make or broker some really cool content, but I (and a great many others) don't NEED to use anything you have to offer. Repeatedly antagonizing your customer base really isn't a successful business model.

This is kind of a departure from the last few releases -- in fact, I don't recall ANY of the other beta releases being limited to DIM downloads. What is so special or unique about this version that requires it?

This is the first beta that could be installed in parallel with the release version. Previous betas replaced the release version.

This is the first beta that could be installed in parallel with the release version. Previous betas replaced the release version. And it requires the DIM paths to get that done. It reads your install paths for the info to set the Beta up as Parallel.

You do understand you could Install DIM, install the Beta and then Uninstall DIM. Dim is only needed for the Install, not to RUN it once installed.

Its ok I will wait for the next official release and this better not be the case again... If DIM would import the 200G of DS content i have installed it may be different it's just not practical...

You could use DIM only for new stuff.

Everyone is entitled to there view, but if you are not buying and not installing content, I ask why the need to bash a feature you have not used and do not plan to use? It has been explained why the DIM was needed for the Beta. A way to get the Beta installed has been shown as well. Why continue beyond this point?

DAZ 3D wishes the users to be able to RUN the beta in parallel with the Version installed at this time. That means DIM. They do not wish users to be forced to Install over a version that is working with a Version that might not work for all users. I see that as a step forward.

    Not only that.
You could just use it for the beta and leave the rest as it is.
Just untick everything you want to be untouched and everything will be fine.

Should we report any bugs with this beta? If so, where? bugs.daz3d.com has been unavailable since Friday AM.

Not unavailable, just moved to a new system, but still http:\\bugs.daz3d.com or http:\\helpdaz.zendesk.com or hit the help link at the top of the page. :) File a support ticket though our customer service portal.

If it is something our customer service staff can help you with, they will help you. If it is a bug then it drops right into the bug tracker. No more separate accounts, no more guessing what category a bug belongs in, no more blocked e-mails so a customer can't register, and a nice friendly user interface. :)

Since the computer with Mantis on it is no longer connected to the Internet, there are two ways you can get notification on a bug being resolved. (1) It will be in the change log, or (2) you can reenter any bug you want an e-mail on when we complete it in the new system.

I truly believe that there is a hidden agenda for everything to go in that direction. Gots to nip it in the bud NOW!

Edit I am not bashing the product I have no interest in it 2 very different issues...

Its not really a hidden agenda, DAZ is trying to bring in new users/customer and they feel DIM will make installing easier for them. Although from my experience just about every new user friendly idea DAZ has tried has been IMO a failure. First Category View as the default way to view content, that one confused old users and new users alike. Smart Content is even worse as the CMS and its database is so easily broken. The new dress-up doll game like default interface, not only doesn't make the program easy and intuitive to use, it makes it difficult for old users to help new users because we don't use that UI and have no idea what they are talking about with 'left side tab' or 'right side tab'. Then lastly is the default library location for Studio being different from the default install location in DIM. For content and plug-ins I like DIM but for software I want a proper installer and I want to have more control where the software and its support files/folders are installed. This last part is becoming more important as new computers often have an SSD for OS and mechanical HD for everything else.

Like my set up on both machines.. All I am saying is leave us the option. I even posted their own advert promising zip installers. They do say that DIM does give options of where to install but like I said too many times I have too much content and I have my system to keep track of it. For the most part I run DS more like 3

I don't really have time to beta test for Daz right now but I did notice something off the bat,

    - first my personal layout and styles were not an available when changing the interface (ie. the ones I made with Pro 4.6.0.18) and

    - the only plugin I had trouble with was Genesis Generation X. It was not even showing up in teh list of available plugins so I can enter a serial number. I uninstalled and re-installed 'GenX' and still had no luck after restarting my machine. I did this with both DS4_D3DGenX_1.1.0.0_Win64.exe and DS4_D3DGenX_1.2.0.0_Win64.exe.

Hope this info is useful and GL to the rest of you I have several pieces in mind and I just do not have the patience to work with a beta right now. If you feel the need to move this post or if you require a support ticket please take it upon yourself to do so because I will not be doing that.
