Yesterday was Star Trek: Voyager's birthday. 27 years ago yesterday, the first episode, "Caretaker" aired.
They were still using some physical models back then, not just CGI, but there was a CGI Voyager. Its creators put their names in the mesh. It was in the back, by the shuttle bay.
(It was a Lightwave model, if you're wondering.)
Never actually showed a side by comparison of my conversion method.
So the DAZ G8 conversion on the left and the original model from Star Trek Fleet Command on the right. (Focusing solely on the face shape).
Also I have a request. I really want to set up TMP-ST-Generations Kirk but I cannot for the life of me find a hairpiece that's a close enough match.
Is this of any help
https://sharecg.com/v/44951/browse/11/Poser/Kirk-Hair-for-M4
I've noticed that's something of a hole in the DAZ/Poser line up: stuff for middle aged people. Lots of stuff for young adults, some stuff for grandmas and grandpas, very little stuff for middle aged humans. Especially attractive middle aged people, like you see on TV.
Maybe SP Hair 009, or the Frankie Hair? I think there are flattening morphs, if they're too fluffy. There's also the Jael Hair. It's old (originally released for Kids 4), but IIRC, there's morphs to change the shape and make it more suitable for adults.
None of them have those signature long, pointed sideburns, though. Maybe you could combine something with the Kirk Hair for M4 linked above. That has the right sideburns.
I ended up using a reskinned and reshaped version of the hair piece from the model of Discovery's Paul Stamets that I have.
Also I custom modeled the Generations Vest.
Happy Threshold Day!
They were unable to get #StarTrek on the trending list on Star Trek Day, despite ViaBorg and a lot of the actors pushing it. But on Threshold Day, #StarTrek and #StarTrekVoyager are trending!
That's just his age showing. He grew old waiting for you to finish...
j/k.
That is an impressive job putting his outfit and features together. Unfortunately, I'm also trying to learn the magic of playing with hair & colorizing it, so I can't give any advice that might help other to say you've done great work!
Quark from Star Trek Fleet Command looks great!
Mmmm. Now Quark and Ferrengi might be a challenge for my DAZ conversion method.
Someone made a pretty good Ferengi morph for M4 a long time ago. Would probably work on V4 as well, though I haven't tried it. I don't think it's available any more, alas.
Your thinking of this Handsome little devil by Mr Wertz which sadly is no longer available
Yes! Though I think it looks better with a shader rather than texture.
Nice outfit!
I rather like the Texture. The outfit was my own desight based on Valiant and a few added props I made
As it happens I do still have wertz morphs. And it should be worth mentioning that my method for converting character models to G8 would even work on them.
I think my issue with the texture is that Ferengi don't have eyebrows. Eyebrows are the bane of my existence when it comes to textures. They're so important to getting a likeness, and it's hard to tell what they'll look like on a different morph. And that Ferengi morph is so extreme there's an untextured section around the brows.
I wonder if anyone will make a morph for those new Discovery Ferengi. Way too complex for me to even attempt it.
Jeez, that's a blast from the past. I just looked in my Poser archive. I've got the Cyclops, Elephant Man, American Werewolf, CubeHead, Marlon Brando, and Ape Head for M4, but that's it. I never saw the Ferengi morph.
It's been a while since I've posted anything here. Been toying with an idea that started out as doing a group of STO characters on a TOS-ish theme (Starfleet, KDF, Romulan Empire). I admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the TOS look and I'm glad that Discovery decided to revamp the aesthetic of the mid 23rd century but I wish they had put as much effort into developing the science and planning things out. That being said, something I'd like to see is a hard sci-fi series that uses a retro look—i.e. the ships move like they did in the 2004 Battlestar Galactica but look like classic Star Trek or Flash Gordon.
So this is kind of an experiment. I really love the Discovery redesign of the Saurians (and Linus is such a goofball) so I've been playing around a bit with the shape and textures. And I wanted to see if a more modern makeup job would look good in a TOS uniform and on a TOS set. Of all things TOS, I definitely prefer the version we got in The Cage; since it was meant to be viewed in black and white the colors are much more muted and, frankly, look better in both black and white and color. At least in my opinion.
I haven't decided on a name for the character yet, but his ship will definitely be the U.S.S. Achernar, NCC-1732.
P.S. I'd have included a color render but the forum isn't letting me upload it for some reason, so you'll have to go here: https://sta.sh/01sl0sacsang
I've been working with XCalpro's Gorn head, retexturing and creating morph targets. :)
For anyone interested, I also have created a fan film called "The Gorn Imperative."
Please enjoy!
I watched it a few months ago. I'd really like to see where you take the sequel, especially since the Gorn are so severely underutiilzed in Star Trek.
I'm glad you liked it! There's another one in production right now. I have a series of these in the works, and will also be combining with the Saladin stories.
Meanwhile, this is another one I did last month, different topic. :)
I also finally released "Invasion!" Part 1 that some of you will remember I've been working on for the last ten years, LOL!
Ken :)
I definitely know I'd be interested in making use of that Gorn model. Presently the only Gorn model I have is the ones from the 2013 game (Kelvin Timeline).
And as you can see by the attached image they look completely different.
Talos IV, I take it?
