100% agreed. :)
Well... they finally let you post, eh, Knight? (lol)
I realize you're coming into this late but maybe you should look at some of the other threads on this topic. There have been tons of explanations of why splitting the mesh was good from many of the PA's that actually create content for these figures.
As for not moving forward with Genesis, as was mentioned before, major changes to the underlying mesh to fix issues would mean there was going to be a new figure no matter what. Even if they had come out with a new Genesis 2 unisex mesh it would have broken all of the Genesis content so there would still be much yelling and screaming - probably by many of the same people that are complaining about the split. They were in a no win situation so I think they decided to just suck it up and put out the best possible mesh they could with the current technology.
I'm curious. How would a Genesis 2 Unisex mesh break Genesis content? BF2 is already based on Genesis technology and she can already wear a lot of Genesis stuff.

Yeah. ;)
There is NO GOOD explanation as to why they could not have made improvements to the mesh that would have accomodated both genders and/or creatures that may be desired.
I'll say it again...
There is no GOOD explanation to separate the mesh into two different figures.
One more time...
THERE IS NO GOOD EXPLANATION!!
...and I am more than just a little disappointed. I'm right P.O'd about it... Why?? Cuz Daz got ME to support their idea of Genesis when they had no intention of moving forward with it.
So, you understand the underlying intricacies of 3D modeling and could have made a better unisex mesh that could have easily morphed into both sexes, been easy to make clothes for, and, oh yeah, NOT cost thousands of dollars?
I'm not exactly thrilled with the apparent sudden change, but I'm sick and tired of people acting like DAZ is selling bread and water or drugs, some kind of item people can't do without. I'm sick and tired of people assuming that they know what DAZ had in mind from the very beginning. You don't whip up a Genesis overnight, so this had to have been in the works for some time. I can certainly see where having both sexes AND a unisex figure could be useful. The new Genesis improved the mesh, but it didn't change the technology, so the original Genesis isn't going to be functionally obsolete any time soon. And it has already been said that splitting the genders will ultimately make it easier on the PAs, as designing clothes that could adequately fit both genders was difficult.

Pretty much this.

Clothing is not all of the content.
As was pointed out before a lot of the morph packs would break or at least act screwy since the underlying geometry would have changed. Just look at Zev0's morphs, he's releasing both G2F and Genesis versions because one version doesn't work for both figures.
The changes you want to make a new and improved Genesis figure require changes to geometry. Morphs work by moving that geometry. Change the underlying polygons and the morphs don't function correctly.
If your only complaint is that all of your clothing doesn't work then I'm not sure what you're complaining about since the vast majority works fine with Autofit. I've even used stuff that was really aimed at male characters on G2F with no issues (Hitman for Freak 5 for example). I'm willing to bet when G2M comes out I'll be able to put him in the evening gown if I want.

Ummm... Are you an artist??
...because I am....
And for me, my tools, are bread and water. Aren't they for you?
No... I am not saying that I could have made a better unisex mesh that could have morphed into both sexes... I am saying I am informed enough to know that Daz could have.... and actually it would cost LESS to make ONE more cool figure than to make... how many will they need now? ...3? ...4?
Or, wait... no...
You're probably right. They won't bother with making 3 or 4 base meshes for G2. They'll probably be on to G3 by the Spring, right? And what will their excuse be then, I wonder?
Oh!! I know, I know... they'll only work in the new DS5, right?
OK... I would have to admit, I would have been upset at seeing Genesis 2 already no matter what Genesis 2 had been... because we still were just getting acquainted with it and were just learning it.
But to see that Genesis 2 is NOT actually Genesis at all... is just adding insult to injury.
This debate has already been had at length in this forum: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/25824/
I've posted several times in the above forum with some of the reasons behind the gender split. At the end of the day the results speak for themselves. Clothing and figures look better, and bend better when they are built on a gender specific base.
Installing Genesis 2 Female doesn't remove Genesis from your hard drive. You can have and use both figures. We will still continue to sell content for Genesis here. In fact several items for Genesis have been released since the introduction of the Genesis 2 Female.
It has also already been said several times that DAZ doesn't guarantee that every iconic DAZ figure will make it into every generation of figure. David wasn't included with the 4th generation of figures, but was with the 5th. The Girl was only included in the 4th and 6th generations etc.

Quite possibly they will move on, I mean it's only been 2 years since Genesis so expecting them to drop G2F in 6 months isn't being ridiculous or anything.
Poser came out with 2012 and they're already wanting me to upgrade - and spend another $300 - $500 - to 2014. Microsoft came out with Windows 7 and less than 2 years later there was Windows 8.
Technology changes, software improves, new versions come out.
And does it really matter if Genesis 3 only works with DS5 (not saying this is the case just making a point). There are still plenty of people on these forums creating amazing art using DS3 and V4/M4. Sure having all the latest and greatest features might make it faster or easier but you don't need them to make art.
That was the point of the bread and water comment above. You NEED bread and water to survive. Daz sells tools for artists but you don't NEED to buy those tools to survive. Even if you make a living with your art so in essence your tools are your bread and water you don't NEED the latest and greatest tools to do so. You may WANT those tools but that's not NEEDING.
