Kingdom of Marrakesh 2012, yeah it turns out nice in Iray with the right Weight, Roughness and Normal maps and settings.

Wow! That is really great @Szark. I have to get back to it again soon.

  • So @SZark did you have to create your own Normal maps for Kingdom of Marrakesh 2012, if you did how would you recommend doing it?  I've also found that when you're converting something to Iray a lot of the time it can be too glossy, I know you can  change some settings to reduce the gloss but I'm unsure what the best way to do it is, what have you found in your experimenting?

No the normal maps came with the Iray conversion but if I was to do it myself I would use the bump map provided and use Photoshop to adjust level, or in some cases extract parts in to new PS layers so I can control the normal conversion better. I use GIMP and a normal map plug-in for GIMP to make my Normal maps.

I always use the Metal/Rough Iray shader as it is the new standard among many apps now.

Iray have two setting for Gloss, Layered Weight (strength) and Roughness. With Roughness 0 is a smooth reflective surface, 1.00 is matte. To control roughness via maps Black = 0 White = 1.00. When it comes to weight well it does depend on what the surface is and how light or dark the surfaces is. I found more white the surface more weight you need and vice versa.

Wow the Kingdom of Marakesh is gorgeous!  Both versions.  And the Rural Chateau as well.  The chateau looks like a lovely place to vacation.

Yep. :) When is vacation? :) Great renders!

That rural chateau has such a nice atmosphere, I'm tempted to get it but I don't really need it atm.

    Simpy stunning artwork!

Where may I be able to also get those nice plants with vases (for DAZ studio) like in your scenes?

Plants add alot of life and warmth to any room scenes.

Thanks. The Banana is from https://www.daz3d.com/rpc-volume-5-jungle-rainforest-1-for-daz-studio-and-vue with the fruit hidden, the pot is from a set that you cannot get here anymore.

The Peace Lillies and Cacti are xFrog freebies that I imported and addjusted surfaces to suit Iray. They came with pots

The tall palms are mix from https://www.daz3d.com/tropical-palm-trees-for-daz-studio and more freebie that I collected over the years.

    Now we come to Vue

First image was my very first proper Vue render.

Second I was testing Hyperblobs and this pic evolved from there

Third, again another bout of testing led me to make this. This time testing SubSurface Scattering, Light rays and transparency maps.

That Black Dragon image is gorgeous!

Camille thank you, that is an oldie. I wanted to redo it but lost the scene file some years ago in a HDD crash so I let it be. :)

Been a while since I did a render. Playing with my new GTX 1080 Ti, boy what a difference it makes.

I went and pimped Jacks https://www.daz3d.com/disconsolation-fallen set. I rather liked how it turned out.

I used to have turtles like that as pets. They're awesome (and stinky ;) ) They went to Italy to a special swamp when they got too big for their tank. I liek to think they ended up something like in your image :D

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

LOL yeah I heard they were a little smelly. Never had anything apart for Tropical fish and now dogs. I miss have a tank. I had 2 tanks as a kid in my bedroom. The biggest was only 2 foot long which was the community tank, full of real plants etc. It was almost a micro climate where I got a balance of plants and fish. I never cleaned it out in all the 4 years I had it. The other tanks were for breeding.

Turtle & Fern lake is a nice render, and I happen to be working on a similar project with Gilliands critters & the exact same set.

May I ask some questions about surface settings?  You’ve been around for a while, so if don’t want to share-- am sure figuring them out took some time.  Will understand if decline.  :)

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

Yeah shoot though depending on how involved the qs are it may take a bit to get an answer as my workload is full at the mo. But I am happy to help when or if I can time permitting.
