directories all messed
After installing daz 4.6 it seems that all the directories are messed up.
I get error messages when loading my daz 4.0 scenes stating duplicate stuff
and I bought the "Trampoline" objects in the store and it installs it to a directory I never used and is not visible in daz 3d.
it is so messed up now.. I don't even know where to start.
I have like 2 different daz 4.0 on my desktop and a 4.6
none work correctly.
I have bought so much from the store and don't want to loose my stuff.... I think the only solution is remove daz studio completly from my computer and start over... being very afraid of loosing all my purchased stuff..
this is very poorly handled by daz and very sad way to use my day getting it work again.

Have you checked the settings of the install directory of content in DIM, and the content direcory in DAZ?
They need to be the same folder.
I'm I stupid for not knowing what "DIM" is?
DAZ directory.. seriously?!?!? here is what I have found on my computer so far:
old
C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D
new
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
unknown
C:\Daz
C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D
C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D
so which directory are you talking about... this is so stupid!!!!!!!!
When you install content anywhere on your computer, you MUST tell DAZ Studio where to find it.
To do that, go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, and make sure that the path to your content is listed as BOTH DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats folders.
If you installed using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM), then your content will be in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library as you listed it. If you installed content yourself using the older EXE installers, then you will need to list the folder that you installed to (if different)
The Program Files directories hold the DAZ Studio application, and content should never be stored there.
DIM is the DAZ Install Manager.
Here's information that can explain it better than my words.
http://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info
And I'm sorry that my answer was not as clearly phrased as it maybe should be, but I would appreciate if you don't vent your anger on me. Thank you. :-)
As for the directories.
Your old directory needs to be added to the places where DAZ looks for content.
Please check out the image in the post:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/417018/
Add the C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D in both DAZ and Poser Formats. You have to select the label "DAZ Formats", then click "New", and enter the directory in the dialogue.
Then your old content will show up.
C:\Daz is probably the directory where you installed the 4.0 version of Daz?
The other two are 1) the 64-bit directory for DAZ and 2) the 32 bit Version of DAZ (if you buy other products, they also will install there).
See images.
the one image show both directories... I haven't done anything...
the other one I just added because I get "text" there where an icon should be.. which makes me think that the whole program is faulty.
peter
Click on the small triangle before the directories, and you will see that it shows the new content directories.
As JimmyC said, you need to tell DAZ where to find its content, because it only knows Default settings.
If you do the same for your old DAZ, it should show you the other directory you posted, and you will most likely see that they are different.
Which brings me back to the question, are you using the download manager, or are you installing manually?
As this might be part of the source for your problem.
I think we are mis- understanding... the old content is there... I just get errors when loading (some duplicate stuff).. but the scene loads... but I just bought a prop today "trampoline" and it isn't anywhere.... it seems DIM decided to install this in another directory then what it usually does (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library)
never used this one before.
the whole thing is messed up and doesn't work... I can't use the prop... i tried add this directory to the dazed content directory and it shows nothing.. then I tried adding it as a runtime base for the poser... and I can see it but it will not put the trampoline in the scene.
peter
uninstall everything... thank daz for being so terrible at handling upgrades....
note: I have to run 26 uninstallers to remove it!!!
You have to change the directory in DIM for content download, as simple as that.
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/userguide/configure_install_manager/tips/setup_my_download_locations/start
I don't know about the duplicate stuff.

there was nothing to change.. the directory was correct.
The DIM always installs to My DAZ 3D Library (by default). You can change where it installs to, but leave it for the moment. You must add the path to My DAZ 3D Library under BOTH Poser Formats AND DAZ Studio formats in your Content Directory Manager, then the content will appear.
To view ALL content, go to the Content Library pane, and look under DAZ Studio formats for Genesis figures and clothing, and Poser Formats for previous figures, like V4, M4 etc. Most content now, will appear in Smart Content, but not all of it by any means.
The Trampoline is installed to /Runtime/Libraries/Character/P3DA_Trampoline/Trampoline.cr2, so you will find it in the Content Library pane under Poser Formats > Figures > P3DAPTrampoline. It does NOT have Metadata, so will not appear in Smart Content.

sorry none of your suggestions work.... I'm in the middle of uninstalling the program... and will try and install it again and I hope I get all my purchase items back from daz.....
this is really a pain in the *ss
thanks for your help.. but it isn't helping... and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
You won't, even after installing everything new, because you did not add the old content library to the places DAZ is supposed to look for.
See, I have all my content installed on a different drive, and content from different sources than DAZ in a seperate directory.
Neither will show up in DAZ, unless I add them to the Content directories.
That's a fact, and I know I swore really badly when I installed it like that about two weeks ago on my new PC, because on my old Laptop, it was all in the default directories.
So, that part, I DO understand your frustration about things not seeming to work.
Also, the DAz Installer will install content to the default directories (the ones you said "you never saw/used them before", unless you change the settings and have it store the content to the old directory.
I'm very sorry I can't explain it any better. If I was sitting next to you I could show you the steps one by one, but over the distance, it's just not possible.
here is my progress after uninstalling everything:
intalled the manager by downloading it from the net
C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1
icon added to desktop
installing DAZ Studio 4.6 (Win 64-bit) from the DIM
icon added to desktop
I start the program up and it still is using the old setup parameters... the uninstall before did NOT unintall the last settings.. this is a failed as expected.
tried to load one of my gymnastic scenes and get message:
Could not find file: /Runtime/textures/DAZ/Charaters/MilWom/V4/V4SmpLimbsM.jpg
assuming I need to install some victoria stuff... but what!?!?
installed everything I had with V4 in it:
-Gymnastics for V4 Bodysuit
-Pyrit Hair V4 Ps
-Victoria 4.2 Base
-Victoria 4.2 Base PowerLoader
-Victoria 4.2 Bodysuit
-Victoria Morphs++
-Victoria Morphs++ Developer Kit
-Victoria Morphs++ PowerLoader
-Victoria Morphs++ StudioCF
still get the same error message.. so what now?
Okay, It makes sense now.
The file tries to load content from your old location. (C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D)
The error message you get says that it can't find the files in the new directory it created. Which of course it can not, because they never were there.
Now, the program is kind of stupid, and can't look for the old folder by itself. It needs to be told where the old directory is.
Please do as follows:
In the content directory manager,
1) click on DAZ Studio Formats
2) in the left side table, from "Directories", select "ADD"
3) in the dialogue, enter "C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D" as new distination.
4) Confirm.
5) When you are back in the Content directory manager, click on Poser Studio Formats
6) in the left side table, from "Directories", select "ADD"
7) in the dialogue, enter "C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D" as new distination.
8) Confirm.
9) Click on "Accept".
It might take a moment (I usually restart the program), then the content should show up.
Alternately, you can change the directory in the DIM, so it downloads the new things you bought to the old directory of DAZ 4.0, and you can use the new stuff in your old version, too.
here is an update where I'm at:
Daz3D remembers the old directories, which means I had to change the location of the My DAZ 3D Library to the default location.
Daz should have done this by default, because I uninstalled everything!!! but it didn't
Now the V4SmpLimbsM.jpg missing message is gone.
now I get the message:
could not find: /Runtime/Textures/PropsChick/AldoraHair/SampleRes/PCAldoraHairtex07_DC.jpg
looking into the DIM to see if I need to install som Aldorahair stuff
Cannot find anything called Aldorahair.. but there are a couple of hair products.. will install them.
I'm happy it starts working. :-)
You have to change the Poser Directory Settings, too, because some material, like the Aldora Hair, is Poser Directory content.
ok.. super.. but change to what? Poser is another program? I did buy poser 2010 version... but what would Daz3D default directory for this be?
Ah, no, it's not about owning Poser or now. It just means that there is content only for DAZ, and content that both Poser and DAZ can use. Because the Poser content has a different file structure, it is stored in its own directories.
Please try this:
1) When you are back in the Content directory manager, click on Poser Studio Formats
2) in the left side table, from “Directories”, select “ADD”
3) in the dialogue, enter “C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D” as new distination.
4) Confirm.
5) Click on “Accept”.
yes,. but when i did my all uninstall.. i manually delete that directory... because this seems to be the default version of the old daz.
so I don't have that directory.
Oh. That's unfortunate... you will have to download an reinstall all of your content again. :-(
Because, what I was trying to explain earlier, you could have changed the default download directory for content in the DIM, and with the extra change in the DAZ 4.6 Content directory management, you could have used one directory for both programs.
Please have a look at this guide, it shows how to change the directory for content download:
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/userguide/configure_install_manager/tips/setup_my_download_locations/start
yes... that's what I'm doing installing all the content to use the default new directory structure... but I do not know where the adorablehair is located? still can't find it.
http://www.daz3d.com/aldora-hair This one?
Have you adjusted the settings of the DIM to also show older DAZ and Poser content? If you have unchecked Poser, please re-check it, otherwise, the hair will not show up for download.
(if anything fails, you can still download it from the product library in your account).
that's the hair,....
I cannot find any settings for older daz and poser content... but there are a couple of filter options... I have enabled them.. but the hair does not show up?.. am I missing a secret fresh button somewhere?
Where are you looking for the hair? Is it Aldora hair?
Mine is installed to My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis\Hair\Aldora. You will find it in the Content Library > My DAZ 3D Library > People > Genesis > Hair > Aldora.
In the DIM, go to the installed tab, select any item, right click on it, and view installed files, that will tell you what has been installed, and where it has been installed to.
I've checked the ones below in the first picture.
The second picture is the chaange of content download to a different directory.
Aldora hair is part of the Genesis Starter Essentials package. The actual texture image file is always in /Runtime/Texture/ [something]... folder, that is why you need to define the path to your content in both DAZ Studio and Poser Format in the Content Directory Manager. If don't have Poser don't have it checked in DIM.
The problem seems to be that the "SampleRes" is not part of the path?!?! why did that disappear..
it is looking for /Runtime/Textures/PropsChick/AldoraHair/SampleRes/PCAldoraHairtex07_DC.jpg
but the texture is at: /Runtime/Textures/PropsChick/AldoraHair/PCAldoraHairtex07_DC.jpg
I try to use locate but it keeps popping up with a message it cannot find it.
when i load my scene all hell is let loose.. this is like 1% of the log:
